  1. Some fans will remember that night as one where OT was needed for the over. A certain Zips player went to the line down 1 with essentially no time left on the clock, shooting 2. Make 1 for OT, 2 for the win.

    Guess what happened.

Lets see, the only guy on that night to go 0-2 at the line was..........

    BHip. :lol::lol::lol::lol:

  2. Even the Plain Dealer is starting to realize we have something special going on at the JAR.

On a raucous night, Akron zips right past Can't State: Bill Livingston

For five minutes in the second half, Akron was as scary as anything coach Keith Dambrot has designed in his decorated career at the school. The Zips hit four straight three-pointers -- by Brett McClanahan, Quincy Diggs, Diggs again, finally Nikola Cvetinovic -- each picking up the decibel scraps from the last and gulping it down, feeding off the crowd's energy the way a shark feeds off chum.

After that, as the Golden Flashes reeled, Diggs, Demetrius Treadwell, Chauncey Gilliam and Nick Harney (especially Harney) got out and ran with such devastating results that Dambrot was musing about pressing more often and loosening the reins on the most talented, yet inconsistently focused, team he has had.

    Akron's second-half blitz pushes Zips past Can't State, 84-75

AKRON, Ohio -- Presented the opportunity to rip and run, Akron turned a 10-point second-half deficit into a 84-75 victory over Can't State in men's basketball Saturday night. Newcomer Nick Harney led a layup parade after a barrage of 3-pointers from the Zips turned the Golden Flashes' hopes aside.

"Long time coming," said Harney, who missed last season with eligibility issues but had a team-high 21 points on Saturday. "I've been waiting to play in one of these games."

  3. Joe Dunn is petrified of internet news, and really goes out of his way to avoid any mention of our site. It's almost comical. He'll mention what "fans think," and then repeat something he read here. But he'll never mention ZipsNation.

Hi Joe. Thanks for stopping in. Hope you enjoy our site, and the fact that we promote your show for free.

Unless ZN.o decides to run some advertising spots on the program, I would say the odds of ZN.o being mentioned are zero. The show is about Zips basketball, not ZN.o. ;)

  4. If Joan Rivers can fill in on The Johnny Carson Show, I'm sure Terry Weigand can handle 12 minutes with Joe Dunn once a year. It would give a different perspective and more information.

When Dambrot starts doing a show that is on the air 5 days a week and 52 weeks a year, you might have a point. Since we're only talking 15 shows, I'm sure KD won't need any vacation time from the demanding schedule.

  5. If this is going to be the answer to input, I can see no suggestions will be taken seriously.

Here is another suggestion JJ can tell you they don't have the budget for. Have some assistants on the show instead of KD every week. I enjoy KD, but he is already saying the same things over and over. Give him a break every third show.

Drop the interviews with 10 year old kids and 80 year old women. Nobody learns anything, if your a ZN member, or whoever this Joe Akron is that they are pushing their demographics towards.

Joe Dunn is not the producer of the show, just the talking head. It might make sense to have one of the assistants on as a guest, but the last time I looked the show is still called "Zips basketball with Keith Dambrot". ;)

  6. Slow informational episode. Drop the fan thing. Give me information.

Nice job Zeke, Joe & KD.

Favorite part: KD calling Harney "The Microwave" :thumb:

PS I only counted one shot (drink) tonight...is Dunn on to me?!?!? :beam:

I doubt you're going to see the "fan thing" dropped. When I talked to Joe last week he told me the show is targeted to Joe fan, not the diehards. Even though us diehards here on ZN.O would love the program to be more technical, the average viewer could care less whether we run a zone or man to man. Too many X & O's and people just change the channel. He said he would take the suggestions from the members here into consideration, but with the limited budget they are working with, it would be difficult to get to provide much in the way of video breakdowns of strategy. I did like how he asked Zeke about what his thought process is when he gets the ball on the block.

  7. This whole firing is a mess. Since the "community activist" got elected to the school board I would expect more questionable decisions.

Speculation surrounds dismissal of McKinley football coach

Superintendent Michele Evans’ had recommended the board bring Johnson back.

Was the decision good? Bad? Was it based on his performance? His personality?

Was it a racial issue where a white coach leads a school where 37 percent of the more than 1,500 students are black, as are the three school board members who voted against him?For Mercer, who was having lunch with friends at Walther’s Cafe, the firing was about performance, not race.

“I don’t believe it’s a black/white issue. When I went to McKinley, we never had a black coach,” she said.

Many who were asked their stance simply lowered their heads and said, “No comment.” One smiled and said, “I’m not touching that one.”

Coaching controversy just latest chapter in life of social activist

“I never set out to be a politician,” she said. “I just saw some things that weren’t happening for the kids. I thought maybe I could help those kids who need our help. Time and again as a community worker, I’ve come in contact with (athletes) who went away to college and come back, and can’t find a job. They’re lost because the glory’s gone.”

Last week, as McKinley’s football team members launched a petition calling for Johnson’s reinstatement, Ross-Freeman posted an entry on the Facebook page of Mansfield Mayor Don Culliver, inviting aspiring coaching candidates to send their resumes to the Canton City superintendent’s office — a move that caused some to question whether the posting violates the district’s hiring procedure. She said she posted it after hearing a TV newscaster remark to viewers that the job was open.

Ross-Freeman contends that she talked to dozens of people prior to casting her vote. Though many McKinley players were honor students under Johnson, Ross-Freeman isn’t convinced he had players’ best interest at heart.

“What about the whole child?” she asked. “Yeah, they might have improved in their grades, but grades drive the football (program).
