Jacq passes are awful- he keeps hanging the receivers out to get drilledWe do we keep running up the middle???? WTF??
-
Here at the bar the Penn staters are wondering why we keep runnng the same play- up the middle for a 2 yd loss
-
I have to say I am really horrified at how terrible they look. I guess expectations and hopes got ahead of reality. I didn't expect a win here but thought we'd have a competitive first half at least show we are a D1 team. Biggest disappointment is the o and play calling which seems exactly like the last few years. Did anyone else expect that the addition of Harris and montgomery would yield, well, something? A more poised jacq? An creative approach? Something??
-
Angry. At a bar in Santa monica with 40 Penn state fans. I would leave but I want to see if there will be any 3q adjustment on offense or if the standard pattern will hold (come put flat not adjustment).
-
Owens had the best play calling wit frye vs osu for these scenarios. Roll outs mis directions, make their speed work against them. Jd has just shown nothing. Such a bummer.
-
Jd has had 3 yrs to get a great qb. Or even a good qb.

2008 Syracuse Win a Fluke?
LosAngelesZipFan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Random thought-- if we had SU's schedule, would we have any issue consistently filling 30K seats? 45k? -
Future non-conference schedules?
LosAngelesZipFan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
First off, how about that shot by 'bron! Wow. It was like an exorcism. I just told my wife that I am breakin the bank for ticket to a Cavs-Lakers finals game.Back on topic, I'd love for us to always have one of Syracuse, Pitt, and Cincy every year-- ideally 2 of them, with one at home. Maybe toss Louisville in there too. These are the urban center schools we should aligning ourselves with, imho.A big ten school would be great yearly or every other year, though I'd much rather get the lower tier ones so that we can have them as home games every other year.We should also heavily schedule Army and Navy, also home and homes. And of course, we should be playing UCLA each year. ;-)Still holding out hopes to some day watch my Zips play in Pasadena. -
Well, no, I was thinking we'd just call it UA and eliminate any and all references to Can't State altogether, but that's just my POV.
-
XU-- thanks for getting this post going. It's always good to get a fresh perspective. Cincy, Memphis, Lville, Pitt, Syracuse, etc.-- UA could and should be in that tier of U's, both athletically and academically. There is no reason UA couldn't attain that-- and certainly with someone like Proenza, it's achievable. However, Akron is at a huge disadvantage compared with those other schools-- it competes in its backyard in almost every way with a myriad of institutions, from Ohio State for share of mind/heart to Can't, CSU, YSU for state support, students, private funding, etc. It is an article of faith with me that UA is on a long term path to being a better known institution. But it would be a hell of a lot easier if the state would combine UA and Can't. I know I say this alot, but having one institution with the scale and reach of a combined UA-Can't State would instantly create a Cincy-level institution, one that could in the long term go well beyond that. Ohio is a in an economic cul de sac or probably more aptly a deteriorating orbit. This is the kind of radical thing that needs to be done to create a future rather than just react to conditions. It's hard to contemplate in some ways, but it sure would be an exciting thing to see a U of 50K+, big endowment, synergistic research specialties, huge branch campus network connecting all of NEO, etc., etc.

Now that the zips are the champs
LosAngelesZipFan replied to Valpo Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I gotta tell ya, the thing that just amazes and excites me is that this was not "the year"-- think of what this team will be like over the next few years with this as a launching pad. With Zeke...wow. It should be exciting times in A-town -
Man oh man that it feels great to finally win this thing. I was living in Gallucci in '86-- so great to finally be back to the dance. They looked great tonight-- just plain tough and determined.

YES!!!!!!! FANTASTIC!!!!!!

ZEKE had his first TRIPLE DOUBLE......
LosAngelesZipFan replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Hey Zeke's Mom-- Congrats to Zeke on his first of what I am sure will be many triple doubles!! And the ESPN Magazine things is AMAZING!!So glad things are going well-- we're incredibly excited to have Zeke become a Zip. There's alot of us out here on the West Coast so I'm hoping KD will get a game scheduled with UCLA or USC or LMU during the Zeke era. -
What's particularly gross about this piece is that the PD hasn't bothered to cover ANY of the massive investment UA has made in Akron over the past 5 years. One of the largest development projects in Ohio has happened with no coverage from its largest paper. This trustee thing is, from what I can gather, just stupid-- on the trustee's part most of all. But to cover that with no coverage of the actual project, let alone the other $400 million in investment being made by the U is just awful. And of course the PD was all over the consolidate UA-CSU rumors last year as well. I hope UA isn't giving any ad dollars to the PD.

WHAT THE &%$#???????????
LosAngelesZipFan replied to w00t's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I hope you guys can get a busload to go-- you will dominate the crowd. I went to b-school at Northwestern, and it's a very small school. This whole thing is so stupid. Beyond stupid. The NCAA is being ridiculous and UA is even worse for not anticipating and heading off this situation. We know we aren't going to get breaks from "the system"-- we have to think ahead. Who would ever have thought that the weather in NEO would be horrible in late November? Shocking. -
So Akron's soccer team, which is a perennial playoff team, loses a home game because of the weather to a team in Chicago? Seriously? It's totally unacceptable, given the level of overall investment in the U over the last few years, that a proper drainage system hasn't been installed on the soccer field. I'm sure there is probably a good reason why that hasn't happened but what about this-- why was there no contingency put in place for this highly likely scenario. This was something that could be entirely anticipated-- bad weather in NEOhio in late November and a Zips soccer team making a run in the tourney. How could there not be a ready alternative that had been cleared and qualified (such as playing some games at SVSM or whatever else is needed to make an alternative location qualify as a "home field" for the Zips), entirely obviating any opportunity for the NCAA to move the game.I still don't understand why the football practice field, the field house, and eventually the new stadium cannot be utilized for soccer. Yes, a soccer field is different dimensions but that doesn't mean it wouldn't fit on those surfaces. I understand soccer wants and deserves its own facility, but why hasn't there been some sort of contingency plan in place given the number of facilities created over the past few years. I still can't imagine why the soccer team can't share the stadium-- clearly playing on artificial surfaces is increasingly accepted in the world of soccer.Seriously, this is just a stupid F* up. UA faces enough head winds-- it doesn't have to create obstacles to be overcome.

Seriously...the web coverage has the boxscore as BG vs AU. WTF?
-
What a great win for the Zips-- I was watching on my PC with a friend that went to 'cuse. I have to admit, I kept waiting for the collapse. But we really closed the game in a way and with an authority that I don't think we have seen before. The last TD was a knife to the heart and a gutsy call. Jac played great-- he deserves HUGE kudos for elevating his game so much. Not sure if anyone saw it, but he was a featured player in the NYTimes on Sunday including a picture (they call out 3 or 4 performers of the week and he was first).
-
Is the local TW coverage in addition to the Big Ten Network? Also, does anyone know if the game will be streamed online anywhere?
-
Tell me the tourneys that collapsed and Ill give you some insight. Was referring to the original post from GoZips that said Ohio State was attempting to put together an exempt tourney but it collapsed.
-
Any insight as to why these tourneys' "collapsed"? It is hard to imagine that the school with the biggest athletic budget in the country (everyone has priorities) can't pull off a tourney.

Memphis Booster Makes A Call
LosAngelesZipFan replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
That's a huge violation-- it basically implies that there are payments going to recruits and families (a call from the CEO who is a major booster to a low level worker is tantamount to a payment since it implies the parent will receive special favor at work for steering her son towards Memphis). It's a nightmare scenario really since it essentially empowers the NCAA to launch a fishing expedition into any and everything Memphis is doing. -
A realistic picture of our recruiting class
LosAngelesZipFan replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
4 of 12 MLS teams now play on FieldTurf and FIFA has now certified it for use.I know every team wants its own facility-- and totally agree that if any Akron team deserves its own stadium, it's the soccer team....BUT, is it really realistic to think this will happen any time soon given the economy, given the amount of campus investment that has already been made, given the squeeze every last penny from donors effort to get the Infocision built? Why can't soccer just share the new stadium? Better a fantastic new shared facility than none at all, right? At least for a few years? I know the dimensions are different, but assuming they can fit a soccer field on soon to be Summa Field, wouldn't that be the best near term solution? The new stadium's scale isn't that crazy-- not like playing soccer in Ohio Stadium or something. Isn't this a "perfect is the enemy of good" situation? Akron doesn't (yet, maybe some day) have the largess to supply every sport with their own facility. We have to fully leverage every thing we have, every investment that's been made. Seems like making use of this fantastic new facility is the way to go!
