jabari looks a bit like how randy moss did back in the day-- man among boys
-
We still have no killer instinct-- we just blew an opportunity to blow the game open after that punt returen.Such a bummer-- we are letting these guys linger and could end up losing this game.
-
Yes, agree the QB play was v solid in first half and Jabari is a freakin STUD (that catch alone could get him drafted) but we should have had 2 more touchdowns rather than the FGs. Penalties are a real concern--just gave them a first down.
-
V disappointing to move the ball like that and again only get a FG. We were rolling-- CJ looked good. Offense seems tentative.

Anyone watching the game? I am, on espn360. Not very inspiring so far. We should have gotten into the end zone on the opening drive after starting with that field positiion and what's up with missing the PAT? Defense did not look sharp on their scoring drive.

On the heels of a great recruiting class ranking for Zip Soccer, I was wondering if the new stadium would be able to accomodate soccer if the situation called for it (such as a national championship game)--anyone know? Also, does anyone know if it is being built to be expandabe (I suppose anything is possible as demonstrated by the ugly retrofits of Ohio Stadium and Soldier Field, but was expandability a design requirement).

Stadium Press Conference
LosAngelesZipFan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Wow, it looks incredible. What a huge economic development engine UA is for the region-- just a tremendous asset for all of NEO. I hope this is the start of UA really becoming a focal point for sports fans in NEO, and by extension the entire U.Just went to the website-- they need to have an online giving link. I was ready to pony up a few hundred bucks online but there was no way to do it, and calling is a hassle. -
This looks great... points everything in just the right direction. I wish this would have been in place 5 years ago...the Big East is unofficially on the hunt (according to the nytimes) for another team and the Cleveland market would be attractive from a size perspective. But just get it built, fill it, win...and then things will take care of themselves.

All I hear is crickets...what's going on?

Skipzip is spot on-- and used the exact example I would have used (Penn State). Army is not going to draw because it is, well, Army. If we played Penn State we would have a near sell-out. And clealry (and most unfortunately, as I have frequently harped on) Toledo-Ohio State will sell out next year.Capt point, however, should not be lost: it sounds like there is little to no promotion going on for Zip football in general and the patriot thing in particular.

This is just OK-- not a homerun, but better than a game against Howard. What will really suck is next year when Toledo plays Ohio State in Cleveland. Cleveland should not be an "open" market--it should be Akron's. I have an issue with other MAC schools coming in.

The JAR sucks. I haven't been there since probably 1992ish but can't imagine that any changes to it have really made it more than a multi-purpose gym with almost no charm. It opened just before I got to UA and it seems like that project is a case in how NOT to build something. I hope to God that the new stadium is in keeping with the "landscape for learning" and field house and not a return to the aim low, mediocre is just fine days of old.

I think I read on this board a few months ago that Akron was initially offered a game against Ohio State in Cleveland which we turned down so it has gone to Toledo in I think '09. Is that the story? Why would we turn that down?

Official Akron Football Schedule!
LosAngelesZipFan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
If the Army game went from an away game to being at Cleveland Stadium, then that is all for the better. And I've always thought playing a game at the Stadium was a great idea, but only if the opponent really warranted it. Not sure that Army warrants it-- just not a big enough name. I love the ideaing of playing Ohio State or another Big Ten team there (like BG did last year and Toledo is doing in 2 years). I HATE the idea that Toledo and BG is playing a game in what should be our turf. I can deal with Can't, but no one else.My point on this scheduling issue is we need to shake up the perception--literally, the default mental model-- that NEOhioians have of Akron football. The stadium, winning, crowds, some national attention will have an impact. However, scheduling BCS teams at home will be needed to reach a tipping point of support. I would like us to have 3 BSC home games in the inaugural season of the stadium and 2 the other years. Any Big 10 teams (and if it is just impossible to imagine Ohio State, how about Penn State which has played at Toledo and seems to have a good relationship with UA), Vandy, BC, Syracuse, Virginia, Vir Tech, Maryland, Kentucky, West Vir, NC State, S Carolina, UNC, Duke, Wake, etc. We have a window to hit the reset button on the perception, the expectations, of what UA is and can be. As the events of the last weekend have amply demonstrated, the window is narrow for us. Winning isn't enough. We have to be hitting on all cylinders. -
Official Akron Football Schedule!
LosAngelesZipFan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I am confused...was Indiana originally scheduled to play at Akron and Western Mich? Does anyone understand the dynamics behind playing Army in Cleveland? Odd unless we are making extra cash on it. And if we were willing to do that then why didn't we take the Ohio State game in Cleveland rather than ceding it to Toledo. The schedule issue was the point of my topic a week ago-- assuming we have a new stadium in 2009 (still seems aggressive to me to think it will be ready to go that quickly), we have 2 years to get an exciting schedule in place that will build on the momentum of a new stadium and hopefully 2 solid seasons. Having Kentucky be the only "marquee" opponent in that inaugural season falls way short of the goal for me. I don't mind if we continue to have crappy schedules the next 2 seasons (in addition to this past year) if we are collecting chits that secure a great schedule of impressive opponents once we have the stadium in place. Kentucky and Indiana aren't that. -

You should call him and try to get him to meet you for lunch-- you have done a great job of letting him know that there are indeed very passionate Zip fans. Maybe you can lobby him a bit because I think Akron has consistently been dealt a difficult hand by the MAC. -
