  1. Below are the Points-in-the-Paint shot selection diagrams from a recent OU home game. Can you pick which is Leon and which is Bubba?
  2. Shocking he didn't end up at a BCS school? It will be interesting to check Norfolk State's roster at year's end to see:a.) If he's still on itb.) If he played
  3. FYI -- In support of the Z-Fund, the Coaches Luncheon will be held this Friday, January 18th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Spaghetti Warehouse. The luncheon will feature Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades, Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jodi Kest and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Keith Dambrot. Each will give their thoughts on the season thus far and upcoming conference play. Cost is $11 at the door and includes a pasta buffet and drink. To reserve your seat call the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-888-99-AKRON. The Spaghetti Warehouse is located at 510 South Main Street in downtown Akron.
  4. Thursday night 9pm games ain't the way to get it. You lose the blue hairs and the families. Looking at the UA hoops demographics, that's a significant section of the fan base.I shudder to think how empty the lower reserved section will look on TV. Thankfully no one in TV land will be watching. Also -- Keep in mind my post is regarding ESPNUnseen and the MAC overall. Not simply this week's basketball game.ESPNU is the Devil.
  5. I think I'm officially tired of the ESPNU/MAC relationship.I love going to a Zips football game on a Saturday afternoon...getting there early...setting up the grill...meeting up with friends...often times the best part of a Saturday game day is the 6-or-so hours preceding it. Since the advent of ESPNU, games have been moved to all sorts of ungodly days...at ungodly hours...for what? "Exposure" sucks when it ruins my game day, or prevents me from attending all together. When it is exposure in the form of a 0.008 rating on ESPNUnseen...it sucks all the more. I don't care if ESPNUnseen was added to a cheaper tier of Warner Cable...NO ONE watches it. Would a handful of local Akron folks watch it on ESPNU? Maybe...but their sorry asses should be down at the JAR.Is it great for ex-patriot Zips like ZIP in Hawai'i? Sure...but how many ex-patriots are watching ESPNU? Really...be honest...52? Hustling your kids down to the Rubber Bowl for a game at 6pm on a Wednesday in November sucks. Having a pivotal MAC basketball game held on a Wednesday at 9pm sucks. Younger kids can't pull that off on a school night...so their parents can't either. You probably lose about 50% of the blue hairs in the lower bowl too.I appreciate Bleach Bum's position in-favor of such a game. If I were a single guy with no kids the BW-3's 3-hour pre-game would be a "can't miss" event, circled on my calendar for weeks. But for a lot of folks, 9pm Wednesday games suck.ESPNU is the Devil. I hate them.
  6. Sweet block by Wood to end the game!Good UB announcer quote: "If Akron was picked 4th in the league, I can't wait to see OU and Miami."
  7. UB hasn't won on the road in 15 games?
  8. Love the UB announcers and their New Yahwk accents. They did a nice job...like listening to Mike and the Mad Dog.
  9. Quade is having a nice game. Where's Ced's 3-point shot gone?
  10. Hope we don't let up. I remember bowing a 21 point lead @ Buffalo with 5 minutes remaining....
  11. Now he doesn't.
  12. Dials rules.
  13. Game is getting physical!
  14. SWEET pass by Dials!!
  15. 7:20pm -- still not working.
  16. Miami Ahead of Akron?
  17. News Release
  18. College D1-A Football Playoff Debate
  19. In any tourney selection committee's eyes, Miami's win vs. Xavier (#18) is 10X better than our close loss to Dayton. We needed to beat them. Close losses are worthless to anyone outside of Akron.
  20. 1.) I don't know where Pride will play. I guess we'll get a preview at the spring game. From what I can tell, Jeremy Bruce is expected to be #1 on the slot receiver depth chart.2.) As of 1 month ago, Harvey and Lindsay both were working towards being on the field in an Akron uniform in 2008. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't. But no one on Carrol Street is banking on it.
  21. As Stan Piatt once told me:Tragedy + Time = Comedy
  22. Bring Pat Summitt to Akron and the JAR would be full. Unfortunately, she ain't comin'.The last couple decades of Zips women's basketball have been fraught with single-digit wins at year's end. 3-23 women's basketball teams draw flies.I have never been to a Zips women's basketball game. There have been infinitely better things to do with my time than travel down to the JAR to watch bad women's basketball. I couldn't watch Coleman Crawford's teams, so I certainly couldn't watch the Lisa Fitch & Kelley Kennedy-led cannon fodder. If the Zips women's team plays some championship-caliber ball, I'll show up and check them out. With all due respect to Coach Kest's present, improving squad, the day the Lady Zips compete for a championship still appears to be a ways off. Not quite as far off as the aforementioned naked cheerleaders, but a ways off none-the-less.
  23. It is too soon to speculate. A loss to OU and/or K.e.n.t. and we'll get a marginal opponent. Miami, OU and K.e.n.t. would get the best opponents under that scenario. If we keep our loss total at three or four @ selection time, I would expect to get someone like Butler or a top MVC program...which would be awesome.
  24. Alex Allen was absolutely killing people at year's end, and Williams was consistently netting yardage in big chunks. If Johnson can shake off the rust...and we add Gary Pride to the mix...we should have the hands-down best running back corp in the MAC. It will be interesting to see if Johnson can run back kicks too? Although no one has mentioned it, Tuzze has developed into a nice FB too.In the end it will boil down to "Do we have a QB that can make plays and sustain drives?" I only have to go as far as my beloved Minnesota Vikings to see: If the QB is ineffective, opponents will stack the box and stuff the run. Even Adrian "All Day" Peterson gets 0.8 yards/carry when the QB is no threat.
