  1. Player Home Page, with VideosScout ProfileColumbus Dispatch Mention (scroll down)Someone Thought He Was "Top 25" at One Time?Who's Andre Ashton?
  2. I think it will hurt him that he'll be 26 years old before the NFL season starts, with some still-raw receiving skills. Teams may be weary of taking a year or two to develop him if they have a similar 22 year old to choose from.
  3. Oh stop it! Jesus...we have 19 wins and we're 9-4 in the conference. We'll hit 20 wins this Saturday, and likely 21 or 22 when we beat K.e.n.t. the following Sunday. We should get the MAC tourney #3 seed. If you're a Zips fan, I think...just maybe...you might have endured a worse season at some point during your lifetime?Take Fischer and Quaintence out of K.e.n.t.'s line up for a couple weeks and see how their record looks. To have a season like K.e.n.t.'s having, you need to be good...but you need the planets to align too. We had a bad stretch with injuries and it cost us a couple games. It now appears the Wood, Ced and Dials are healthy...at least as healthy as they've collectively been since December. We're smack dab in the thick of things for an NCAA tourney bid. There are honestly only 4 teams that can say that right now. On a neutral court, we can beat anyone in the MAC. The sky isn't falling.
  4. The answer is obvious -- "Win."With our existing schedule, if we beat Winthrop, Dayton, Ken.t and VCU, we're in the at-large discussion and knocking on the door of a Top 25 ranking. Since we lost all those games, we're relegated to winning the MAC tourney as our sole opportunity for post-season play. That, or maybe that new 16-team, NIT "leftover" tourney might invite us.
  5. If that doesn't make the March 9th game a "can't miss" I don't know what does!Opportunity to knock off a Top 25 team for the first time in our program's history!! AND, beat K.e.n.t. at the same time!! :thumb: :thumb:
  6. Overall, the game was refereed fine. It was hardly the poster child for a robbery. Did the guys blow a call here or there? Yes. But it is pretty weak to lay blame for our woeful offensive performance on them.Did you watch the Pitt WVA football game back in November? THAT game was the poster child for a robbery attempt. And Pitt overcame and won. If hit one more three in that game, the refs are a moot point. We had our chance to win, and didn't come through.
  7. I know this is tough for Buckeye Fan to digest -- But this is not the forum to talk up OSU sports. Do it on Kenny Roda's show, do it on the myriad of internet sites. Write the Beacon or the PD. Do it with your buds over a pitcher of beer on Friday night. Don't do it on ZipsNation.org. ZipsNation is here explicitly for one reason -- To discuss Zips athletics. Period. If you are a Buckeye Fan and you want to talk-down the Zips on our site, we'll have problems. You come off like a VCU fan when you do that crap. Buckeye fan is SO used to getting his way that he can't accept this. Kinda like the spoiled rich kid that gets arrested and yells at the cops "YOU CAN'T ARREST ME!!! DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM!!??" Whatever. The rules are clear. Please abide by them.
  8. We play "away" next year.
  9. There is a reason why ESPN stipulates that the "away" teams referee the two arranged games. If the refs were irrelevant, they'd simply let the local conference refs do the games. And for the record - We lost because we shot horribly. Not because of the refs. OU's game featured refs from the same conference, and somehow OU overcame.
  10. Heard of us now? We are the team that doesn't care if you heard of us or not, we win.You have to remember that outside of this board, it's Akron that no one has heard of across the country. Trust me, VCU is much more well-known then you think. We are just coming off a year where we beat DUKE, took Pittsburgh to overtime in the second round. We have a Bob Cousy Award finalist for one of the top 16 point guards in the COUNTRY. A freshmen who is the leading freshmen shot-blocker in the nation and 10th nationally. The #1 3-pt fg% defense in the country. Yeah...a lot of teams just happen to miss a lot of shots against us. Try every game. I guess we're just lucky, or we're doing something right. Oh yeah and we have Anthony Grant who is only the hottest name on every AD's list and the 2-time defending champ Florida's #1 pick to replace Billy Donovan when he almost left for the NBA. Gimme a break, what has Akron ever done in hoops??? We average 6,400 a game playing teams like Towson, William and Mary, Georgia State, and James Madison. You think we sell out our arena because of our opponents? Think again, we sell out cause of the product we put out on the floor. Just face it, people just don't give a crap about your program. Your excuses are ridiculous, yoru crowds are pathetic, and the so-called atmosphere there was equally so. That was an AVERAGE venue in the CAA, sorry to break it to you. There was NO goal-tend, I reviewed it myself. You have one gripe, and that's Rodriguez's walk. But Wood was getting away with all sorts of stuff on inside as well. We played 5 freshmen on the floor at the SAME TIME against your team for several minutes. We recruit on an entirely different level then you. We will destroy you next year. You omitted one thing -- You are a douche bag. If, after your post, you would have stated "I am a Douche Bag," then I would given your post an elevated level of credibility. We played using Colonial referees...if front of what most douche bag Ram fans seem to think was anything but a hostile environment...we shot 28%...and we had an open shot to tie you with 10 seconds remaining. Man, VCU basketball is AWE-SOME stuff. The Zips could NEVER run with you guys... VCU is a good team. It's fans come off as VCU-centric douche bags. The one good thing to come out of this...I'll look forward to rooting against you in the NIT this year.
  11. Heard of us now? We are the team that doesn't care if you heard of us or not, we win.We heard of u and ur team iz gud but u r a douche bag.
  12. I thought the fans on this board were very tough on JD this year. Justifiably so. And if we get 20 wins in hoops this year, and lose in the MAC quarter's or semi's, KD will get a little heat on the board too. Justifiably so.There's no favoritism.
  13. I am on record as stating I hoped K.e.n.t. lost by 50.
  14. Now wait just a minute...one OSU fan on our board says it was the terrible weather that kept the OSU/Zips score close. Another OSU fan says it was Jim Tressel's benevolence. No which was it, OSU fans??!! Because we all know it couldn't have been that -- The Zips played their hearts out defensively, and John Stec had one of the NCAA's al-time greatest punting days."OSU Fan" is funny...even in a win, he needs to justify to himself some "noble" reason why OSU didn't cover the spread.
  15. Per Zipmeister (several times) -- If the game were really cancelled years ago, how could we possibly play them in August?
  16. 4,100 in a place that seats 5,500...at 11am...against an unknown opponent (these guys weren't Gonzaga for Christ's sake, they were freaking Virginia Commonwealth)...and with the Zips pretty much playing .500 ball for the past month (thank God the tourney draw was held prior to our mid-February swoon)...the attendance was what was to be expected. Records are for losers. 20 wins for 4 straight seasons pales in comparison to what K.e.n.t. has accomplished. We're the winners of "The Miss Butterface" contest. We have a smoking body, but our face ain't so good. Until we start putting our smokin' body together with a pretty face, we're never going to catch the fancy of the local fans. 20 wins + NCAA tourney appearance = Success20+ wins, w/annual early MAC tourney exits, and single NIT win every half-decade...you win the Ms. Butterface contest.I love Dambrot and the staff. Luv 'em to death. Love the players. I realize how difficult it is to get into the NCAA tourney, and how much luck is required to do so, regardless of how talented a squad you have. But -- I see K.e.n.t. -- our biggest rival-- do it with regularity, and they are a MAC hippie school in the middle of a bunch of trailer parks.Save yourself all the "big game" ticket package promotions and Chinese unicyclists at halftime. We need to win something that matters, then back it up with regularity. Then the place is sold out. Otherwise, a "nice" 4,100...and a Miss Butterface award.
  17. We lost because we shot 28%. It had nothing to do with the crowd -- We win 95% of our home games, and 4,100 is rarely exceeded in any of those games. The referees were fine. Overall, I think VCU got the "anticipatory" whistle on layups much more frequently than us, but what can you do? The Wood no-call sucked, as did the goal-tending no-call...but we shot 28%. 28%. With a TON of open looks. It is a miracle we had a chance to tie it with 10 seconds remaining.Did that Maynor kid remind anyone else of Eric McLaughlin? He's a smooth player. No statistics on any of the scoreboards during the entire game? Nice job, UA. I love our "money" play at game's end where Quade wings the ball 3/4 court length, and about 7 rows deep into the stands. He's awesome at that play. Consistent as hell.Congrats to K.e.n.t, who can prove KD wrong by garnering an NCAA tourney at-large bid if they falter in the MACC finals. Hopefully the faltering happens against us.
  18. I hope K.e.n.t. loses by 50.
  19. I agree that 80% of our outstanding home record is due to excellent teams and coaching. The other 20%:We've played a lot of cream puffs at home. Our non-conference schedule is admitted by all to be, overall, "soft." Our HOME, OOC schedule has perennially been the softest of the soft.Beyond the OOC, the bottom half of the MAC has been terrible for the past 4 years. BG, NIU, EMU, CMU and Ball State have been horrible. We SHOULD win games against those teams @ home. And finally -- Winning on the road in the MAC is profoundly difficult for any team. I haven't looked at the stats lately, but at one point this year MAC road teams were 4-31. Seems like we aren't alone in boasting a gaudy home win percentage?Don't get me wrong...to hold serve at home against Miami, OU and K.e.n.t. over the past few years has been impressive. But when you only have 3-4 reasonably tough opponents on your home schedule every year, and you're a solid program, you're going to win a pretty high percentage of your games.

  21. I'll be at BW's for a post game beer. If some of the Ram faithful wanted to tailgate in the parking deck prior to the game, I'm sure no one would care. Due to the early start time, that's your best bet for some pre-game revelry.
  22. The best place to park is the parking deck on the corner of Spicer and Carroll streets. The deck is a 2-block walk to the arena (you'll see people walking that way -- can't miss it), and the Carroll/Buchtel street exit is directly off Route 8.The only place I could see open for a pregame beer might be the Buffalo Wild Wings on Exchange street. Take Spicer street south about 4 blocks (from the parking deck) and you'll hit Exchange St. BW's is across the street, to the right.Map
  23. I agree. Sit all the starters. Play Goddard 40 minutes, and play him at Center too. Who cares if we get waxed on national TV. I'm sure a win vs. VCU wouldn't help our NIT chances either.
