  1. Chances are...you spoke to an idiot. There was NEVER an agreement, verbal or otherwise that NC State would come to Akron. That game was set up about 7 years ago as a one-time shot.
  2. Unless you have no life, I would fly. It'll save you 7 hours each way. Weekend weather is fine. Little snow on Friday & a high of 16F. No snow on Saturday and a high of 26F.
  3. Frye was a senior, and it was a "fun" thing to do. If anyone from the "U" decided to make billboards for a Sophmore, they should be put in a stockade on Jackson Field and pelted with old tomatoes.
  4. The wives of most OU grads have the same complaint.
  5. So if you are a non-qualifier and you sit out your first two semesters, you are guaranteed 4 years of eligibility? I though you needed to be 80% of your way towards a degree by your 4th year to be guaranteed a 5th year (4 "playing years")? When did that change?
  6. UConn game is not a rumor. It is real. Here or there??? There.
  7. That's a tall order considering he's going to have two first-year QB's throwing him the ball? It would seem like a better idea to wait until he had a couple seasons under his belt before anointing him a Heisman candidate? Hey, make some signs and have some fun however you can...
  8. I'm with you, UA Alum. Weather isn't a big deal. There will be a about 4 thousand on-hand. OU's recent decline, our Toledo loss and the weather will deter only a few from coming.
  9. We haven't beat a quality team on the road since Oral Roberts about 2 months ago. We lost to Toledo last night in pretty much the same manner we lost to them in the MAC tourney last year. Playing hard is great, but we need to stop crapping our pants late in the game vs. Toledo. I was hoping last night's game was going to prove we've gotten over the hump. We're still trying to figure out how to jump the hump...Hey, it could have been worse. We could have lost to a crap NIU team at home, like OU did last night.
  10. Not exact...but but close enough to grade-out at an A-.
  11. I think Payne will give Joyce fits. We have the lead with 1:30 to go, then turnovers and missed free throws will kill us.Toledo 74Akron 71To me, this is the "separator" game. If we can win it, it shows we've gotten over the hump and have what it takes to win it all. If we lose, it shows we still can't beat a decent team on the road. The "cupcake" part of our schedule is over. The next stretch includes:@ ToledoH -OUH - AP@ Miami@ K.e.n.t.Those are five tough, tough games.
  12. not really. then we'd be playing a bunch of division II teams. Oh wait, I mean D-IAA. Same difference... You have too much spare time. Two of those YSU games will indeed be D-II opponents. Like Clarion and Slippery Rock. Glad the Penguin fans want to pay $$ to see that.
  13. UConn game is not a rumor. It is real.
  14. No idea. We always hold one or two back "just in case." That's how Dennis Kennedy got here a few years ago. If I hear something I promise I'll post it asap.
  15. I think the Army game at Cleveland Stadium will be cool. Home schedule next year will likely include Toledo - Great crowdCMU - Bowl team last season, and a great crowdK.e.n.t - Great crowd as long as no one is stupid enough to hold it in NovemberOU - Defending East champs and a great crowdMaybe we can get Temple @ the RB somehow?OSU/Indiana/Army/UConn is a nice non-conf for the Zips. Three of those are winnable. All those school names carry some national recognition if we win. Moreso than North Texas, MTSU, Troy, etc.
  16. Why is that a surprise? Every team the Zips played during those three years beat us. If we had played Riggs-Lamaar Beauty College in 1994, we'd have lost by double digits.
  17. That's probably EXACTLY what we'll average. OU will exceed 5k. AP will be around 5k. BG is on a Saturday and will be around 4.3k...assuming we don't have some nasty, bandwagon-killing losses that turn the public off (ie. losses to OU & AP).1998 was a great regular season for the Zips. But, K.e.n.t.'s Jose' Davis killed us in the first round of the MAC tourney...and Dan Hipsher never recovered.
  18. He's a Prop, so you won't see his name until he is in good academic standing...hopefully after the spring semester.
  19. I wanted to than all who helped me assemble the recruiting information this year. Thanks to all of you who answered my emails and phone calls, and who gave me great information unsolicited.I'd like to think ZipsNation was able to provide the most up-to-date, accurate and detailed information regarding Zips football recruiting spanning from the summer of 2006 through today. Anyone can cut and paste the list from Scout.com or Rivals.com. To me, that's worthless. I really enjoyed bringing the "better" info to all of you, and bringing that info first. As soon as I find out who that "extra" scholarship might be held for...I'll let you know.
  20. I'm stuck watching the live stats thing @ GoZips.com from my hotel room in Seattle. No free audio feed to be found.
  21. Big welcome to both Shane and Mondo! To all the new signees - Enjoy Wednesday. It's a hell of an accomplishment to get a D-1 scholarship. We're happy as hell to have you on board! You'll love Akron.
  22. Probably Greyshirts from a previous class, I'm guessing? Just a guess.
  23. Sweich Update - Playing well, but has nerve damage?
  24. To the OH-ver-RAY-TED cadence:DIALS-is-BET-TER (clap clap clapclapclap)To the old "I got a fee-lin', Pittsburgh's goin' to the Su-per Bowl" song:"I got a fee-lin', Bubba's goin' to the NIT"
  25. It was in the PD, not the ABJ. Click me for StoryI do agree with it. I'm shocked Duquesne is playing well, but they are. Winning @ Duquesne would be a nice feather in our cap. The article does say that our chances of an "at-large" are slim. But if we screw up in Cleveland, a win like the Duquesne one might be the difference between a home NIT game and an away one.Let's hope we don't have to worry about that.
