19-6, 8 min. to go 1st half...Zips are sleepwalking and firing airballs

I gathered from a previous post that it's the coaches who feel the league is holding back the program. Maybe they feel they could recruit easier/better in a stronger league or grow attendance/revenue/donations. I didn't know a MAC school could just move one of its sports to another conference like that though...surely the league would have some say-so or could impose repercussions if they didn't approve(?)

Main St apt construction
ZippyRulz replied to ziptrumpet87's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
The slumlords are not going to like this...it's going to reduce their property values, rents, and tenant counts. The rapists won't like it either...it will have more security than they're used to dealing with and be tougher to break into. -

I think it would be nice to have a front page feature post on zn.o about Zippy's Capital One Bowl championship. Also, a link to the live stadium cams would be cool. Just a suggestion...not trying to make extra work for someone

There ought to be a way to build it big enough for graduations, big games, concerts, etc. and use partitions to make it smaller for most regular games. If we have a couple thousand graduating in the spring and they each bring some parents, siblings, grandparents, SO's, friends, etc. then 5,000 seats are not enough. Plus it would be nice to be able to host HS regionals, maybe a NCAA womens regional, maybe a Roadrunner Marathon event, maybe a NIHOF induction, concerts, etc. and have plenty of room. But then you could 'downsize' it and have the bandbox atmosphere for home games and especially televised games where you don't want a bunch of empty seats.

The MAC only has 6 soccer teams, one of which is Hartwick. If UA leaves it will be pretty weak. I wouldn't be surprised if BG or WMU drops mens soccer at some point since they also have hockey. Would UA womens soccer go to the other conference as well? $12M for a soccer stadium seems like a long shot at best. Are you saying they won't show the plans until they have funding? Is there room at Lee Jackson for a fancy facility or would it have to be somewhere else? Men's Soccer MAC record Overall record Akron 4-0-1 15-4-2 Buffalo 3-2-0 10-7-2 Hartwick 2-1-2 5-6-7 Bowling Green 2-2-1 6-10-3 Northern Illinois 1-3-1 7-9-4 Western Michigan 0-4-1 7-10-2

We shot .283 inside the 3 point line and .240 outside the line...that will get you beat no matter where you play. And many of the missed shots were wide open (as KD admitted) and many of them weren't even close. We have suddenly lost our home court mojo. VCU didn't shoot well either but started making some shots down the stretch...that was the difference. Like the Zips, they are good in their conference but not a real threat beyond the mid-major realm. Goaltending is when the shot is blocked on its downward trajectory, not on the way up or at the top of its arc. Because the ball slows down as it reaches the top of the arc people get confused and think it's coming down before it actually is. 4,000 was a good crowd for an early start against a team most people aren't very familiar with and the Rowdies got some good airtime.

Do we know for sure whose broadcast it will be? You'd think it would be the home team, but... -

It's a fan forum...we're *sposed* to be emotional. It's not like Frenchy never gets emotional about the Zips I especially enjoyed Joe D's sarcastic remarks about "Harvard of the Midwest" and the lack of class of some MU fans at the end of the game.

Fun Zip Strip Column
ZippyRulz replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
People have fond memories of those Zip Strip bars but I think future students will have even fonder memories of attending games on campus at the new stadium. Anyone know what's happening now at the construction site? -
The answer is yes. They have announced that they will. On the stadium website. Whether they will follow thru remains to be seen. They don't keep other construction project status updated on the UA website so who knows.

That's obviously not going to happen. Dude had mental health issues and was on medication which he then quit, probably abruptly which may have been what set him off. Sometimes people have trouble getting the help they need, sometimes the treatments are not effective. IMO, everyone in society should be screened by a mental health professional to find all the ones that need help but aren't getting it. Maybe the schools that can afford it will start putting an armed security guard in each building. I don't think any schools are going to start allowing students to carry weapons on campus. It must be scary to be a parent with kids off at college.BTW, one of my UA profs was a NIU alum...Dr. von Meerwall.

lol, i was thinking the same thing, OUCHI'm sure the Pats remembered his TD return in the previous game and DH had a huge bullseye on him in the SB. At least he held on to the ball so the Giants could put together an amazing winning drive.
-
They kept the camera trained on him like he just butchered his own mother or something...I thought it was a bit overdone. My suggestion to Coughlin would be to have the incoming player communicate with the guy he's replacing like in basketball. It was a heads up call by the Pats tho' to keep the drive alive.
-
I'm not sure I understand how the substitutions work. Is Chase supposed to always watch for another LB coming on the field and know that he's the one being replaced? Couldn't/shouldn't the incoming player notify whoever he's replacing to make sure he gets out? Or did he miss a signal from the sideline? Why was all the blame on Chase...shouldn't it be a coordinated effort?

Hixon: Switch from D to O in college...Fantastic-finish catch to win the MAC for Akron...Broken foot during combines, picked up by Denver...1 year rehabbing foot...Serious injury to opposing player in first NFL game...Fumble problems, released by Denver...picked up by Giants...KO return for TD vs. Pats in final reg. season game...Everett walking again after NDE...Plays in Super Bowl and wins the ring...Wow, what a whirlwind of events !

Kind of scary that they come down so easily with just a small excavator claw/bucket.

Recruit List is Updated
ZippyRulz replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Nice table. Ya gotta love getting a 4-star WR and DL. -
You never know what might happen with the Fingerhut Commission. Stark State could expand to fill the space if the Can't branch closes. I could see it happening since they already have so many other branches and the state is looking to combine & condense.

That page hasn't been updated in many many months. At least we'll always have the historical photo of the pre-construction hole in the ground. Maybe we can use it to get psyched up for the near-future hole in the ground for the football stadium.
