  1. http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?qstr=e...2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2The incident lingered with Hixon for weeks after."Did that affect me? Yes," he said. "I look back at film and just the way I was running I just looked tentative, like I was second-guessing every time. At the time I thought I was doing the right thing, but looking back now I just looked real tentative."
  2. Thanks for the visit and info, Flyer. You're just stating some facts about your team which I don't take as gloating or predicting a dominating win (heck, you even admitted you're nervous). I think we will give you guys a great game and the upset is always possible. Word is your website will be carrying free video of the game which is cool. I hope our program can rise to that level someday. Good luck.
  3. Try not to faint but the ABJ also has it up on Ohio.com
  4. Hmm. I don't recall ever seeing the Don at any Zips event. There was the tiff over the Quaker Square purchase but then the U. made an agreement to preserve some hotel rooms so I assume that is patched over. On the one hand, I wouldn't read too much into his going to one game but on the other hand I'm sure everything with him has some political nuance and if there is anything bubbling with a new arena he would probably want to assess the current situation first. Like you say, there have already been discussions about it but I don't think we can infer too much about any planning/progress based on DP's appearance and I'm sure Mack is being rather discreet in his comments to the ABJ. The way I see it is this:1) DP & city leaders would love to have a spiffy arena to complement Canal Park for year-round minor league sports and events and to boost downtown activity, businesses and tax revenue.2) It wouldn't make sense for UA to dump big bucks into revamping the JAR if there is going to be a spiffy arena downtown (practically on campus)3) If they can cooperate on finances, scheduling, etc. it is in the best interest of both parties and therefore the most likely outcome.4) The JAR would not become redundant as it would still be useful in its current state for volleyball, intramurals etc. (especially once Memorial Hall goes away)
  5. Zippy Rules !Thanks to everyone who voted and voted often !
  6. I am so glad to see it. DH seemed to really be in a funk after the Kevin Everett injury and didn't do too well at Denver. Now that Kevin is walking again I think Domenik's spirits are lifted which will allow him to play like he can. The Giants almost did it to NE last night. I don't even know if the NYG are in the playoffs but I hope so...I'd like to see Hixon get another game in or 2 before the off-season.
  7. Yayyy !! Can't wait to see some construction photos. Altho I won't hold my breath to see them any time soon on uakron.edu. "First Dirt" is next month, IIRC.
  8. I suspect part of it may also be that there's some bragging and razzing amongst NFL players about the schools they attended and DS may have a little inferiority complex in that regard which I could understand if he has to put up with some crap from the other players. But he still should have some class and not disrespect the school that gave him a scholarship and an opportunity to be where he is today.
  9. No--it doesn't. Your eyes and/or mind are playing tricks on you.
  10. 1. A back to the future time machine to make it Sept. 20092. A modified compass showing only North-South (no east-west)3. A geisha hospitality house for the players to improve morale and retention
  11. 1. A new arena plan2. A Zippy Capital One Bowl win to promote this program nationally3. A Zips Fever epidemic thruout NE Ohio
  12. Sounds like it's State Hospital night and all the patients got in free.
  13. Dude is raising a son and 2 brothers so smoking anything at home would be a bad idea. And his idol Batman wasn't no stoner, either (Robin...maybe)Yahoo interview:Robinson: So how is your life off the field these days? Are you living well? Smith: Yeah. My son (Dwight Jr.) just had his eighth birthday. My grandparents are still alive and kicking, so everything is lovely for me. I got custody of two of my brothers, too. They are 15 and 16. To see them basically trying to walk in my footsteps is something. One just lost in the state semifinals in football. Robinson: You're Mr. Mom these days, huh? Smith: That's exactly what they call me now. At 29, I've had them for six years. I've had to grow up really quick over the last few years.
  14. Like I say...bulletin board material. Was it a simple mistake that they got the name of our mascot wrong, or intentional disrespect? You're going down, Goldy Goofer !!

  16. Maybe Thirsty Dog would be the new logical hangout for watching Zips away games, sipping on some RooBrew!
  17. All I can say is if this research deal was made behind Tosu's back, Fingerhut is going to be really pissed. Now that it's posted on CNN they will find out...
  18. The construction business is slow and it looks like we are benefitting. But didn't we just read the budget had jumped from $56M to $61M and they had reduced the number of suites from 25 to 16? Does this just put us back closer to the original estimate?
  19. We win if and when we have a coach that someone else wants (at a higher level). Hopefully JD will turn it around and become that coach. Mostly it will depend on the impact of the new stadium tho.
  20. Is this the same Thirsty Dog brewery that used to be out at Montrose? Did they close that one and move to Grant St.? Is it just a brewery now and not a public bar/pub? Hopefully RooBrew will be tasty and widely available around town. Maybe that would get folks pumped up about the Zips (if they don't instead complain about a lack of Buckeye Ale availability).

  22. uakronkid said:"I suggest you read some of the discussions that are held on the Ohio.com messageboards about the stories that are written. There is an incredible hatred of all things UA held by many residents. They don't understand what UA is trying to do by improving facilities and eliminating the ghetto that surrounds campus. they are trained all their lives to believe that UA is hilltop highschool and that it is just a communitty college that people go to when they are too stupid to make it into OSU. Whenever UA announces a plan to improve the campus or accademics, people come rushing from all over the area to bash it as a waste of taxpayers money and they ask the questions like "Why would UA do that? They are an urban campus! They don't need things like trees. Urban campuses serve simple people who don't go to Can't or OSU and shouldn't care whether they have nice things." It's terrible. The amount of hate spewing from the people who benefit from UA keeping this city barely afloat is astounding. They revel in their own ignorance. I'm glad that there's a few voices of reason enough to balance them out."Well said and very true. The contempt for Akron and UA by some of its own residents is both bizarre and sad and is probably a symptom of low self-esteem. Or a victim mentality that growth can only happen at the expense of someone else and not through education, hard work and investment. Obviously if someone offers a large donation earmarked for a particular constructive use the U is going to try very hard to accomodate them. And obviously that donated money is not coming out of taxpayers pockets. It is the students who are demanding more residential/dorm units on campus but I guess UA is supposed to refuse to develop new living spaces because it's in an urban area, I mean what the heck? I thought the definition of an urban area is someplace where a lot of people live, work, learn, etc.

  24. They've been talking about it for a long time now but those buildings are still there. I agree they are ugly but enrollment is increasing and I don't think they can afford to lose the classrooms. I don't know how they could build this new 4 acre green space behind Buchtel with Carroll Hall still there though. It may just have to wait at least until the academic space in the new stadium is ready. They also put that amphitheater in behind the arts & sciences building but I guess you can never have enough of them (?)
