Is a conference shake-up happening sooner than later?
ZippyRulz replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
CUSA has a much more southern profile. They may be more apt to go for MTSU (TN/Nashville market) and FAU (Boca Raton/Ft. Lauderdale). The CUSA schools are bigger names than the MAC schools and its profile is still higher because of recent history and former members. Going to CUSA would get Akron more known outside the midwest and we could still play some instate schools OOC. I wouldn't really miss the michigans/niu/ball/buffalo 'rivalries'. Travel would be a witch though; not an easy bus ride down to the Gulf Coast. One of the goals was to keep open a clear view from Buchtel Hall onto Lee Jackson Field and vice versa so any new building wouldn't cover the same footprint as Carroll Hall, it would be shifted east. With Memorial Hall gone that shouldn't be a problem. There's not much need to keep the Memorial gym since there are new basketball courts in the Rec Center. It just needs to be replaced for growth reasons. The WW2 serviceman name plaques should of course be preserved and moved to the JAR or student center or maybe even remain at the same location on the new education building.

"Middlebury Marketplace, the first new retail shopping center to open in center-city Akron in the past 40 years"I hadn't heard about this before...where in center-city Akron would that be?

How much can the Wizards whine about LeBron? What a bunch of crybabies...now they have the off-season to sit home and cry.

Dude! You're giving me goose bumps just reading this!!! I'm so pumped for The Info to open RIGHT NOW!!!Dang, now I'm thinking we should start this fall with a parade / pep rally on campus outside of InfoCision on Friday night or on Saturday morning before the band heads out to the RB. It would be cool to do even before the stadium is finished to start building the anticipation amongst the students and fans prior to the 2009 opening. It would also be a chance to experiment with different formats before settling on something long-term. In fact I think we should try some different ideas just to see what people like the best and see what sticks. Some type of blimp cruising high over the campus on game day would be great for drawing attention to the games. If it could carry a signboard there would also be adverti$ing/revenue possibilities.

What would the team colors be? I think we know who the mascot would be. What conference would we move to and who would be our archrival?

"he has a good reputation among other coaches"...doesn't that pretty much ensure success?

Anyone know if Carroll Hall is gone yet?

Is there something planned to be built there along E. Market? The open space at Carroll Hall is going to look nice.

Which is better? Spanked in Big Dance or 1-1 in NIT?
ZippyRulz replied to K-Roo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
We need a banner in the JAR. Given that we're a one-bid conference, going to the NCAA and giving it our best shot would at least have meant that we won the MAC and are better than So getting to the NCAA should be our primary objective, regardless of a one and done outcome. -
It seems like they keep changing the camera angles. It would be nice if they kept one centered on the hole. But it's cool to be able to watch the equipment running around and good to see a crane on site. And what's with the cross on top of the field house -- are we a parochial school now?

I see on the stadium website that Indiana is now the inaugural Infocision opponent--did we already know this?

It's a keeper...fun and easier than a forum game thread. Thanks.

I don't see us dropping off that much at point guard. Everyone seems to agree Dials is more of a #2 and we have some good PG talent coming in. ND is a good leader but not exactly a consistent open-look shooter. Hopefully the new guys can progress steadily thru next season and be ready to make some noise in next year's tourney. Ced had his moments but 2.1 rebounds per game and 9.7 ppg should be replaceable. We'll obviously miss Wood's 18-24 ppg and rebounding. Most of the games we lost were due to offensive droughts so we need to improve the production a little without losing too much on defense.

CLEVELAND (AP)—Al Fisher's double-clutching 15-foot jumper with three seconds left gave Can't State a 49-47 win over Miami of Ohio, sending the top-seeded Golden flushes into the championship of the Mid-American Conference tournament Friday night. After Fisher's bucket, Can't State had to survive a last-second shot by Miami's Tim Pollitz, who was short on a runner in the lane as the horn sounded.

NEOCOM and UA to put training center in Akron?
ZippyRulz replied to Zipsrifle's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I wouldn't mind seeing neoucom move to akron to be near the hospitals and have UA take over the rootstown campus for undergrad classes (I'm sure Can't would be thrilled to have us in Portage Co.) Build a couple dorms out there for students who want to be out of the urban environment -- which would further erode the value of spicertown shacks making them easier/cheaper to acquire for redevelopment of the stadium district. The current med school consortium arrangement makes sense to me...I don't think we need to try to wrest control of it away from the others. -
Good shooting performance guys...need one more of those on Saturday and we'll be

content suggestions

At least 1 of us does...I like the f.lashy (oops, did I say that?) new links to the gozips.com stories. Good job. -
I think we're talking about the 2008 game at Kentucky being cancelled, not the 2009 Kentucky at Akron new stadium opener.

I know KD isn't the one out there shooting the ball but still he has to do something about it. Maybe they're working too hard and need to rest/relax a bit.
