They kept the camera trained on him like he just butchered his own mother or something...I thought it was a bit overdone. My suggestion to Coughlin would be to have the incoming player communicate with the guy he's replacing like in basketball. It was a heads up call by the Pats tho' to keep the drive alive.
-
I'm not sure I understand how the substitutions work. Is Chase supposed to always watch for another LB coming on the field and know that he's the one being replaced? Couldn't/shouldn't the incoming player notify whoever he's replacing to make sure he gets out? Or did he miss a signal from the sideline? Why was all the blame on Chase...shouldn't it be a coordinated effort?

Kind of scary that they come down so easily with just a small excavator claw/bucket.

Recruit List is Updated
ZippyRulz replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Nice table. Ya gotta love getting a 4-star WR and DL. -
You never know what might happen with the Fingerhut Commission. Stark State could expand to fill the space if the Can't branch closes. I could see it happening since they already have so many other branches and the state is looking to combine & condense.

That page hasn't been updated in many many months. At least we'll always have the historical photo of the pre-construction hole in the ground. Maybe we can use it to get psyched up for the near-future hole in the ground for the football stadium.

Wow, ask and ye shall receive. I just had to go to avatar settings, remove my avatar, then recopy in the URL & Update and it upped the size. Thanks a lot.

So the taxpayers only lost $583,000 per building...it doesn't sound so bad when you put it that way. If it's such a prime location then it should be worth more than $6 to the developers. If the cost of asbestos removal, etc. is so prohibitive then the city should have been able to get the property for less money than what they paid. I can understand the city wanting to control what gets built there but it seems like they absorbed too much cost for the option as a middleman between private parties.
-
I'm confused. How were they worth $3.5 million if they're on the verge of being condemned? Would a private investor come in and pay that much plus a lot more for rehab to operate a porn shop (in the internet age...with competitors down the street) or bar? And if they would, why didn't they offer a little more to outbid the city? I agree it's a good thing the city is not trying to redevelop the property itself. I think the story behind the story is who previously owned the buildings and who did they know on city council at the time?
-
So the city pays $3.5 million for 6 buildings it then sells for $6 and says what a great deal it is for someone to take them off their hands. I'm glad I don't pay taxes in Akron.

Do our board admin's decide avatar size or is it determined by the software? I was wondering if they could be just a little bit larger because almost anything you choose looks a bit squished and hard to see in 64x64 pixels. Just checking. Thanks.

The thing about Hixon is that if he can't compete for first or second string receiver, he may not be kept around just as a KR, and especially if he has any more fumble problems. I don't know if he's playing coverage on kickoffs/punts but that at least would be a feather in his cap. Or if he could handle emergency DB duties. He should be able to play pro somewhere for a good long while tho.

I hope we find out soon. They could replace it with a new dorm tower. I could see Main St. becoming the new Zip Strip, especially with a new arena. The City of Akron should buy out the nearly-dead Rolling Acres Mall for a pittance, move their offices over there, sell their downtown properties to UA for market value and use the windfall to reduce taxes for a few years. That would also free up some much needed parking spaces. Before you laugh, I've already seen some malls that have a Sheriff's office, library branch, etc.

Too bad 1350am doesn't carry the video (w/advertising, of course). Even an enterprising student or alum could do it just with a laptop, webcam and access to the university wireless network.

Slowhio gets "The" taken away from them!?!
ZippyRulz replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
So let's have some bowl games in Boston, Cleveland and Seattle since the weather is nice. Will the SEC be agreeable to travelling north to play instead of in their backyard? In fairness, the nat'l champ. was a home game for LSU. -
Off Topic: Jacobs Field is no more
ZippyRulz replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
This one doesn't really bother me. They need the money to keep up the arms race and remain competitive. I'd almost rather it be named for a corporation than some gazillionaire w/outsized ego.The Jake --> The Prog -

The one thing I don't like about SEC gloating is they don't play in all types of football conditions. The bowls are in the south/southwest and if they play up north it's during the preseason in September. Would the SEC be as good playing in Ohio/Michigan/Wisconsin in snow/cold/freezing rain conditions in Nov-Jan? The columnists conveniently neglect to mention that the SEC has an inherent advantage due to the geographical bias. -
"Please do not wear that gear in this house. It is out of place and disses Akron."That sounds like a polite request to me. It would be a great experiment to wear full Zips regalia (or any other Ohio school) to a Buckeyes game and see what kind of reactions you get. Not as polite, I would guess. Dude should have known better.

The only modern-era football names that jumped out at me from the list were James Black, Mike Clark, Russell Holmes and Paul Winters. I thought Jason Taylor was already in? The only modern-era basketball names I noticed were Mark Alberts, Joe Jakubick and Russ Holmes. I'm guessing the voters are older guys favoring the older players for induction before the more recent players(?) I have to believe our football players with substantial NFL experience will get in eventually.

Maybe even another ranked team, e.g. Xavier?

I guess this would be a good night to reorganize my sock drawer...can't think of anything else interesting going on. Maybe if I get that done early I'll turn on the TV and see if there are any Three's Company reruns on.

The womens games would be a lot of fun if they were competitive nationally. Girls HS bb is fun to watch at the tourney level when there is an outstanding player like Katie Smith, Lisa Cline, Marcie Alberts, etc. playing. Not so many dunks but still some exciting competition and drama.
