  1. A quote from UA Professor John C. Green: http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/13/c...ace/?hpt=hp_bn3 “Some of these evangelical leaders are not as active as they once were in politics and the evangelical movement has changed a little overtime,” says John Green, a political scientist from the University of Akron. “Where this group could have an effect is if they coalesced around one candidate and then helped to provide resources.” Boots on the ground, phone lists, robocalls, and even the possibility of an evangelical super PAC could move the needle for a candidate, Green said. But the time for such resource-intensive mobilization is growing thin.
  2. #75 right now: http://www.realtimerpi.com/rpi_261_Men.html AR- Pine Bluff and FL A&M really bring down the SOS (327 and 339, respectively). Replacing those opponents in the future with more middle of the road teams that we still pull wins out against would help dramatically IMO. And if we ever stop losing in the OOC to the likes of Valpo and Duquesne, Joe Akron might get interested and show up for MAC games.
  3. I disagree. Had we not lost to Duquesne and Valpo, we'd be right where we need to be for consideration thus far. Even closing the game out against VCU would have made a big difference. The team is good enough and the schedule strong enough for an at-large bid, but it would likely require around 7 losses or less for the entire season. A tougher schedule?...maybe 10 losses would be acceptable. We just have to stop losing OOC games to teams we should beat early in the season.
  4. That's a John Madden comment there.
  5. Just imagine how bad it must feel for the 4 fans (thanks, CK) on the K.E.N.T. message board.
  6. It all comes down to money. 50 years ago when Bowden and Paterno were getting their starts, the difference in salaries between upper echelon schools and the lower was not nearly what it is now. I don't blame the coaches...if they are in it for money, let them jump programs. But you're right, they won't leave a legacy anywhere.
  7. Relative to where we were the past two years, winning three games next year would be lighting the world on fire. I say, burn it all, Terry!
  8. It's gonna be a wild couple months in MAC East hoops.
  9. Big road win against a defensively tough team! Well done.
  10. The difference for us in this comeback tonight versus what would have been a few years ago is that we have athletic players that can attack the rim off the dribble. It adds a new dimension to the offense and limits scoring droughts when we aren't shooting well from the floor.
  11. Here we go! 49-48. I'm watching through the MAC website and am disappointed in the commentators. I am tempted to turn Frenchy on.
  12. I don't know if we have enough to pull this one out. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. It would tell me that this team has turned the corner.
  13. Thanks, kids!
  14. Does anyone know if the game will be broadcast via the MAC website or elsewhere online? I'm not in Ohio. Thanks in advance, and Go Zips!
  15. Kind of like we do with OSWho?
  16. I must say, BuckZip, "Fair and Blanced!" Kudos.
  17. Right on, and I'm predicting three.
  18. On the main CNN page: http://www.hlntv.com/article/2012/01/02/ja...peech?hpt=hp_t3 Just saw that it was the same link as Zips_ME87 posted. Sorry.
  19. I do actually, Keener. Let's hope this hire is more right than you were. As much as I initially thought the iCoach hire was the wrong one, I think this is the right one. I really don't want to jinx us all, but the longer you look at what is going on and the more you learn about Bowden and the staff he is putting together, it is hard not to anticipate great things happening for the Zips. I know that it is extremely early to be optimistic, but Coach Bowden has been spot-on so far. Could anyone else have made a bigger splash with the Zips faithful than T-Bow? Jim Tressel, I think. But I'm perfectly content with Coach Bowden, and he doesn't come with the associated baggage.
  20. I want to offer my apologies! This team is for real NOW! They beat a TOUGH team by 8 points! I'm surprised Kennishaw State isn't ranked yet with those 3 wins!!! Final Four match-up in March baby! Dude, didn't OU blast Akron twice last year? I had almost forgotten about that. We'll find out in a couple of weeks if that carried over to this year. I'm sure every Zips fan thanked our lucky stars when they got knocked out of the MAC tourney before we would have had to play them. If we beat Can't or OU twice in the regular season this year, I don't want to see them in the MAC Tourney. Any idea how hard it is to be a good team three times in one year? I'm sure OU fans were thinking the same thing about us last season.
  21. I do actually, Keener. Let's hope this hire is more right than you were. As much as I initially thought the iCoach hire was the wrong one, I think this is the right one.
  22. Well this comes from a person who thinks U@B is a "scrub team" I just think they are a Canadian team.
  23. I would say they moved on THEN had major FB success...particularly Mack. Nothing about UA football has been remotely successful since 2005.
  24. Little Trimmie? What's that mean? Yeah, seriously. His post would have had so much more credibility if he wasn't so blatant about belittling me. I shared my opinion. So what? I thought ZNO was about intelligent discourse?!
  25. I honestly don't have much respect for a guy who left like that. It's one thing to use a mid-major as a stepping stone, which I don't agree with, but he left Akron to go to another mid-major. Really hard to not hate the guy. Would be like KD saying F- Akron and going to coach at UAB or something. Best thing is that we have a national championship and he doesn't. So I say screw Mack and screw Houston! I wish everyone would put their bitterness aside. Climbing the ladder exists in all professions. It's unrealistic to find guys like Caleb Porter, Luis Proenza, or KD for every position at the University. If you ask me, it bodes well for the University because people leaving to climb the ladder means that they did their job here well and improved the University. Same with the attitudes towards Lebron. He did ONE thing that wasn't classy yet he is a strong supporter of the City and of our men's basketball program. Get over it! And other than men's soccer, UH is on a different tier of college athletics than we are. Good for Mack.
