  1. We'll get in, we'll have a game Thursday at home, and we're going to make a run for the Cup. I'm expecting a Big 10 school possibly for the first round. I'm calling it now...Northwestern at home in the first round. And we finally have a chance to return the favor from circa 2006! I think we have a chance at making a strong run too. We need to play consistently and Mattocks needs to return to his scoring prominence. His lack of goals in the last few big games may have cost him the Herman Trophy. I'd love to see a 4-4-2 with Mattocks and Holmes up top...I'd love to see that two-headed monster. Their speed and willingness to make things happen one-on-one could shift the balance of play towards the opponent's goal. And having Holmes up top with him would prevent the defense from exclusively keying on Mattocks. I hope Coach Porter makes some such adjustments next game. We need them.
  2. 1-20. Soon to be 1-22. Enough said! If this isn't the threshold for a coaching change, what is?
  3. We played and beat Indiana at home last year 2-1 in the third round of the College Cup. I think we've played them twice during Porter's tenure and won both times. Though, our record in the all-time series is very much one-sided and not in our favor. Similar in magnitude to OSU's against us. I'd love to draw Northwestern. Last time I checked CollegeSoccerNews, NW was our projection.
  4. Well deserved all around, especially Trapp. He's an animal. Totally agree; #6 is the real deal! One or two more like him and we will take back the championship in 2012. FS: I have worn a #6 jersey every match since I purchased it at the beginning of 2010 season. You may remember that #6 and #10 were offered in the Team Shop, Nagbe and Ampaipitakwong respectively. Prior to this year’s OSU match, I was approached in Manny's by Trapp's neighbor from Columbus, accompanied by Trapp’s mother. She was too shy to ask if I was her son’s primary fan. So, she convinced her neighbor to accost a drunken stranger (me) about it. Of course, I replied that I wore #6 in her son’s honor. What else was I going to say? Big Wil Trapp fan here!!! Sounds to me like you're already giving up on 2011, bisbee. I sure haven't! We only need to win seven in a row.
  5. If true, this is very classy of JD. I always respected him as a person, and never thought he was a bad coach...just one who wouldn't take us to the next level (BCS). I'd be happy if we were just competitive in the MAC every year. Soccer and basketball are plenty good enough to keep my interest for 8 months of the year.
  6. I agree with almost 100% of your post… but there are going to be people who it seems should have known but did nothing but were expected to look closer. When a squeaky clean guy like Paterno (and maybe even Sandusky)is involved and no accusations have ever come to light most are just going to trust that things are OK. So...we need to investigate but do it in a calm, rational manner rather than a lynch mob looking for the next victim on the tree. And...leave the Federal Government out of this. They have no jurisdiction here unless the boys are from out-of-state and that does not appear to be the case. They can't even investigate Holder or Solyndra professionally. It is the United STATES...I like it that way ;-)If there is a possibility that crimes were committed on trips out-of-state OR PSU is too strong of a brand name in PA for this situation to be investigated objectively (and it is, I live there), then the Federal Government needs to take over.I am a minimalistic about government intervention at all levels, but please spare me the lecture about state's rights. The Civil War settled that issue.
  7. Just saw the highlight update on ESPN3 of the Miami-Temple football game.
  8. Great win and even better start to the season.
  9. Thanks, bisbee.I think Participation should be replaced with Pride. Participation sounds like an attendance award.
  10. The heading should be "The 5 P's."Does anyone definitively know what they are?Passion, Pride, ...?
  11. Great call, bisbee!
  12. Welcome to the dark side, CK. Nice to know you're no longer living inside the Matrix.
  13. I'd say that a true NEO sports fan never gets tired of the "building process." It's all they know.
  14. Last time I checked, tailgating doesn't require game tickets. I'd recommend that no one renew their season tickets because doing so only contributes to the problem. Instead, I recommend tailgating and socializing and listening to Frenchy on the radio in the parking lot before packing it up at the end of the first quarter when most games are over anyhow.I said at the end of last season that anyone renewing is only contributing to the problem. I knew after a couple games last season that iCoach was a terrible hire. Check the archives. In this case, I hate to be able to say I told you so.
  15. More like 0-11.
  16. I wish they would protest to the athletic director and tell him they wont take the field until he is fired.I don't. The university can't swallow his salary, and this would make very negative national news. I wish i Coach would just resign...not gonna happen though.
  17. 2-18. We can't change anything fast enough, as far as I'm concerned.Look at our offensive numbers pre, and post "pro set" offense. It is an unreal difference.I don't think it's too early to call it 2-19. And, if you want to consider teams that are on the same level as us, 1-19.
  18. I don't understand why Army is even in the conversation...they are MAC-esque in football. Temple is yet to win the Football MACC, and may be out of the running for this year too. And if this is about all sports and not just football, why isn't Memphis in the picture? East Carolina has been good in football recently but isn't included either. Southern Mississippi is nothing special. If it plays out this way, I'd like to see Akron, Toledo, Miami, Ohio, Can't (I hate to say it, but the rivalry is good), Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Marshall, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, East Carolina, and UTEP. Two divisions based primarily on geography leaves CUSA-MAC rivalries in tact with SIU and NIU joining the remnants of CUSA. For us, this amounts to dropping the dead-weight that exists in the MAC. Then again, in football we are the deadweight right now.Kentucky and South Carolina would be affiliate members for men's soccer (they are with CUSA now). Therefore, the men's soccer members would include WMU, SIU, NIU, Marshall, Memphis, UAB, Tulsa, Akron, South Carolina, and Kentucky. Solid!I think we are a basketball arena and a respectable football program away from being in this conversation.
  19. The entire basis of this thread is ridiculous, and I'm taking you to the wood shed for it! Big deal, the band drowned out a few chants...don't complain! Instead, work with the director and coordinate. The presence of the band is a unique part of the culture of soccer at UA. Embrace it! It is cool because it's part of who we are. It is a tradition that schools like OSU have in football and whom we are so jealous of. It is this exact type of thing that OSU soccer is jealous of us for. Yet, when we have the band volunteering to perform at soccer games, people resent it? WTF?!I may sound like our quintessential pacifist, DiG, but we should be promoting a culture of inclusion, not exclusion in everything that is UA. This should be especially true of attendance at soccer games. Don't complain that the band is there, don't complain that students come and don't participate as rabid fans. Appreciate that UA soccer is so good that people want to come and volunteer to cultivate the atmosphere. If such an attitude is universally adopted, the upper limit of growth of UA soccer is huge. Otherwise, we will have a great schedule and team and blame relatively mediocre end-of-the-season attendance against quality opponents on trick or treat, high school football games, and the weather. Give me a break!
  20. I disagree. As I stated in the game thread, Luke and Yedlin added a dimension of attack down the wings that was not present in the first half. I think if they had both started, we win the game. That is not to say that I'm second guessing Coach Porter. He knows what's best for the long-term. Mattocks also pressed.
  21. To me, this team just doesn't seem to play with the same passion and urgency as Caleb Porter squads of previous seasons. Sure, we are young, but when we play our game with composure, everything is fine. But we don't close out games well, we don't play with enough precision in the offensive end, and we are inconsistent. Tonight epitomized all of those things.Oh well, anything can happen in the Tournament, and I have supreme confidence in Coach Porter.
  22. Brenes has had some wildly errant and unnecessary attempts on goal from distance. We have definitely outplayed MSU but we haven't had any urgency in the offensive end. Only a small handful of good scoring opportunities and MSU's goal made some outstanding saves! The 48 game home unbeaten streak is over. It had to happen sometime.I just get the feeling that we are too young and inexperienced for this to be another Final Four year. What a good problem to have!
  23. Are you kidding me?! 1-0 MSU @ 3:26 left in the game on a through ball right up the middle.
  24. Huge save by Meves!Great to see Yedlin and Holmes into the game. Their speed has changed the dynamic of this game. I have no idea why they didn't start.
