Nebraska was added in 2011 as it was being kicked out of the AAU, making it the only Big Ten member to not also be an AAU member. It was very poor decision-making all around for the conference. I think UCLA, Oregon, and Washington were must haves for the Big Ten because it gives the conference the entire west coast, except for the SF market (and Stanford and Cal are not big basketball or football schools). Agree to disagree about the Pitt versus Penn State addition if it were to happen now.

September 8 - Cornell

Solid win! This team seems to be really well balanced. There don't seem to be any true stars, yet everyone contributes at a championship level. -
The B1G was focused on capturing the biggest schools in the largest media markets, not shopping for great programs in the middle of nowhere like the SEC mostly has. TV ratings in large markets drive the money of advertising dollars. Full stop. https://www.collegenetworth.com/who-makes-more-money-sec-or-big-10/ https://apnews.com/article/big-ten-revenue-distribution-e7c083d8dc5603611bfc8f1ec3d7374e As a result, if PSU were not already in the B1N 20+ years ago, Pitt may have been a more attractive current option for B1N expansion in Pennsylvania.

I think it is a reasonable response. What did you expect?

It would have been nice to have this level of advocacy from the conference with MSOC vs. NW'ern in the NCAAT ~20 years ago, MBBALL vs. UCLA in the NCAAT, and FOOTBALL at Michigan in 2014. I think what the MAC member schools see is that WMU has a strong potential to otherwise go 13-0 and be the playoff seed for the lower level schools. If this loss stands, the MAC's best opportunity for that slot diminishes greatly, and each member school potentially loses out on hundreds of thousands of dollars of additional revenue.

I am watching on the BTN, and they just gave a shout to Caleb Porter's Zips and death by a thousand passes when talking about excellent collegiate soccer. If there is a replay and someone wants to hear it, it happened around 30' left in the second half. Maryland beats Georgetown 3-2. Maryland is excellent.

We were down to the goal line for a win at Michigan about 10 years ago. Given the weekend events, that situation looks impossible, even if we did actually stick it in for 7.

They must have made a cocktail with fermented Buck Nuts. Don't worry, OSU will get snapped back into reality when they play @Kentucky, Washington, @UCLA, Indiana, and @Maryland. They are lucky they aren't playing the Zips this year. -

If this team can find some consistent goals, they are going to be VERY good! Nice win tonight! -

And of course the stat tracker on gozips.com, linked by the schedule, connects to the Army match, AND my ESPN+ is simultaneously not working. -

I think the potential is very strong too. The College Cup is realistic. See my comments to Zip_ME87 above. -

I don't think they are a disaster at all. In fact, I think the talent is probably there for a College Cup run. However, to do that, they need the same killer instinct that Caleb Porter always instilled...wins must be taken, they are not handed to us. That is especially true for a roster that may not feature a reliable #9 striker who can be counted on for consistent goals. From what I can tell, there is no Zakuani, Mattocks, or Jaaskelainen. If there were, I would have expected such a player to make their impact last night. As for who I play against, it is a league that has lots of former college and some former professional players. Everyone is experienced, fit, and knows how to play the game at an advanced level. -

They are college players playing a 90 minute game. This isn't marathon running. I'm in my mid-40s and still play multiple 90 minute games in a week at a high level. I don't think the number of subs utilized or the number of minutes they played has anything to do with it. It seems that the team played either expecting to get a great chance or for Army to make a mistake and give us one. Neither happened because being Army, the opponent was very fit and disciplined. The kind of complacency displayed by the Zips last night never wins championships. -

No heroes tonight. Too bad because that's a game we obviously should have won. Oh well. On to the next. -

Army must be packing the box and putting 11 players behind the ball. I hate it when inferior teams do that. It makes me wish the regular season still had OT. -

11 shots so far at 55' and only one is on goal?! We HAVE to do better than that!!! -
What makes no sense to me is that this is the same lump sum payment we were getting from such schools twenty years ago. Adjusted for inflation, it should be approximately double that amount by now.

Any Update/Feedback on Today's Scrimmage?

What's the story with this? I saw many months ago that we had a commitment from a highly regarded QB prospect. Did that not end up materializing? I follow Zips basketball and soccer more closely, but still want to see football do well for a change. -

Should be a win in front of a respectable crowd. If we beat Dayton, 3-0, I think we beat Army 4-0. Go Zips! Also, I'm a bit disappointed that the Gozips.com men's soccer game previews this season have not (yet) featured all-time series data as it relates to current opponents. I ALWAYS read them for that reason, and I think it is a particularly interesting way to celebrate the tradition and dominance of our program. I hope this gets fixed going forward. -
Their football program could say something similar about us.
-
Wake better watch out!...I think the Zips are undefeated playing in North Carolina. 1-0 against NC State!!! Haha.
-
Other than following the Zips, I've lost all interest in college football and basketball because of stuff like this. The extreme capitalization is ruinous to so many things. I'm just tired of it.

FWIW, I remember UNC playing at Cleveland State some years ago because they had a player from the area who was a senior, and this was a way they honored their departing players.

I am about as big of a soccer fan as there is, and my enthusiasm for the World Cup is modest, at best. I initially intended to go to several games in at least two different cities; now, I won't be attending any. Politics have ruined it for most people already. I think the residual enthusiasm for the program from the Elite 8 is more significant.

I am a tad disappointed that there are no Little Ten teams on there to beat up on.
