Thanks, bisbee.I think Participation should be replaced with Pride. Participation sounds like an attendance award.
-
The heading should be "The 5 P's."Does anyone definitively know what they are?Passion, Pride, ...?

Great call, bisbee!

Welcome to the dark side, CK. Nice to know you're no longer living inside the Matrix.

I'd say that a true NEO sports fan never gets tired of the "building process." It's all they know.

Last time I checked, tailgating doesn't require game tickets. I'd recommend that no one renew their season tickets because doing so only contributes to the problem. Instead, I recommend tailgating and socializing and listening to Frenchy on the radio in the parking lot before packing it up at the end of the first quarter when most games are over anyhow.I said at the end of last season that anyone renewing is only contributing to the problem. I knew after a couple games last season that iCoach was a terrible hire. Check the archives. In this case, I hate to be able to say I told you so.

More like 0-11.

I wish they would protest to the athletic director and tell him they wont take the field until he is fired.I don't. The university can't swallow his salary, and this would make very negative national news. I wish i Coach would just resign...not gonna happen though.

2-18. We can't change anything fast enough, as far as I'm concerned.Look at our offensive numbers pre, and post "pro set" offense. It is an unreal difference.I don't think it's too early to call it 2-19. And, if you want to consider teams that are on the same level as us, 1-19.

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.

I don't understand why Army is even in the conversation...they are MAC-esque in football. Temple is yet to win the Football MACC, and may be out of the running for this year too. And if this is about all sports and not just football, why isn't Memphis in the picture? East Carolina has been good in football recently but isn't included either. Southern Mississippi is nothing special. If it plays out this way, I'd like to see Akron, Toledo, Miami, Ohio, Can't (I hate to say it, but the rivalry is good), Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Marshall, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, East Carolina, and UTEP. Two divisions based primarily on geography leaves CUSA-MAC rivalries in tact with SIU and NIU joining the remnants of CUSA. For us, this amounts to dropping the dead-weight that exists in the MAC. Then again, in football we are the deadweight right now.Kentucky and South Carolina would be affiliate members for men's soccer (they are with CUSA now). Therefore, the men's soccer members would include WMU, SIU, NIU, Marshall, Memphis, UAB, Tulsa, Akron, South Carolina, and Kentucky. Solid!I think we are a basketball arena and a respectable football program away from being in this conversation. -
The Band and Soccer, is it necessary?
UAZipster0305 replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The entire basis of this thread is ridiculous, and I'm taking you to the wood shed for it! Big deal, the band drowned out a few chants...don't complain! Instead, work with the director and coordinate. The presence of the band is a unique part of the culture of soccer at UA. Embrace it! It is cool because it's part of who we are. It is a tradition that schools like OSU have in football and whom we are so jealous of. It is this exact type of thing that OSU soccer is jealous of us for. Yet, when we have the band volunteering to perform at soccer games, people resent it? WTF?!I may sound like our quintessential pacifist, DiG, but we should be promoting a culture of inclusion, not exclusion in everything that is UA. This should be especially true of attendance at soccer games. Don't complain that the band is there, don't complain that students come and don't participate as rabid fans. Appreciate that UA soccer is so good that people want to come and volunteer to cultivate the atmosphere. If such an attitude is universally adopted, the upper limit of growth of UA soccer is huge. Otherwise, we will have a great schedule and team and blame relatively mediocre end-of-the-season attendance against quality opponents on trick or treat, high school football games, and the weather. Give me a break! -
What Ails the Soccer Kings?
UAZipster0305 replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I disagree. As I stated in the game thread, Luke and Yedlin added a dimension of attack down the wings that was not present in the first half. I think if they had both started, we win the game. That is not to say that I'm second guessing Coach Porter. He knows what's best for the long-term. Mattocks also pressed. -
To me, this team just doesn't seem to play with the same passion and urgency as Caleb Porter squads of previous seasons. Sure, we are young, but when we play our game with composure, everything is fine. But we don't close out games well, we don't play with enough precision in the offensive end, and we are inconsistent. Tonight epitomized all of those things.Oh well, anything can happen in the Tournament, and I have supreme confidence in Coach Porter.

Brenes has had some wildly errant and unnecessary attempts on goal from distance. We have definitely outplayed MSU but we haven't had any urgency in the offensive end. Only a small handful of good scoring opportunities and MSU's goal made some outstanding saves! The 48 game home unbeaten streak is over. It had to happen sometime.I just get the feeling that we are too young and inexperienced for this to be another Final Four year. What a good problem to have!
-
Are you kidding me?! 1-0 MSU @ 3:26 left in the game on a through ball right up the middle.
-
Huge save by Meves!Great to see Yedlin and Holmes into the game. Their speed has changed the dynamic of this game. I have no idea why they didn't start.
-
The MSU goalie is having a great game. Kudos to him. I just hope we can pull this one out.I love listening to Frenchy with Simon Spelling.

Try using a different web browser. Also, consider checking SportsRadio 1350 for live audio.

If he wasn't chasing the points on the first 2-point conversion, we would have been kicking an extra point for the win.

NCAA trying to kill college soccer
UAZipster0305 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
This could also force us to model player development the way the rest of the world does. We are virtually the only country (perhaps canada) that probably plays collegiate soccer. Collegiate soccer IS NOT a medium conducive to the development of world class talent. The entire spectrum of mixing athletics with academics at such high levels is unique throughout the world. -
GOOD GRIEF. Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
UAZipster0305 replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Football
With i"Coach", I'm happy to get the ball at least once after a coin toss. You can put me in the camp of kicking an extra point and tying it up and trying to win in OT. Momentum is an awesome thing in football.Plus we get a "free" practice out of the OT, good for a young team and an inexperienced coach. Going for two was a lazy way to make dinner time. Interesting take. I don't know of any coach who would consider this as a factor. At this level, all it should come down to is which scenario the coach feels his team has the best chance of winning. Period! -
Not true. ..... So you're telling me you honestly believe that most of the critics on this forum would have praised Ianello for going for a tie if the Zips had lost in OT, and most would not have criticized him for not going for the 2-point conversion?Given the momentum of the game and that we were playing at home AND that we have a reliable kicker (a made PAT didn't used to be a given), in my judgement, the most probable scenario for getting a W would have been to take it to OT. Even if we had won with the 2 point conversion, I would hesitate to say I'd support the same call in the same situation in the future.

NCAA trying to kill college soccer
UAZipster0305 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The foreign trips for all sports I can understand. However, killing only the spring schedule for soccer is crazy. It only amounts to a handful of games anyhow, so what is the harm? What is the rational behind this?Would the NCAA consider eliminating the football spring games? I highly doubt it. They are a big deal particularly at schools like OSWho.I wonder if the NCAA has a vested interest in permitting the rise of soccer from rivaling basketball and football?...Or in preventing the prominence of "otherwise inferior" schools like Akron where soccer is successful on the national stage from distinguishing themselves?Z.I.P., do you have any insight on this? -

UAZipster0305 replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Football
This is precisely why the coach should never "chase" the points early in the game. A 2-point conversion should be limited to specific situations late in the game that the coach has a predefined chart based on point spread (e.g. 2, 5, 8, etc.). -
Another tough tie: 2-2. We had WF on the ropes and couldn't close the game out. The inability to close out a game is this team's weakness. The home unbeaten streak continues though.
