  1. They haven't sold out a game in Columbus since the joint opened -- except USA vs Mexico. Don't worry about finding good seats. Most games they draw around 10k. 15 is a very good attendance figure (for them!). It seats 19k I believe. Let's get a good crowd of Zips. I would expect many from the UA team. You might even call the soccer office and see if you can get a deal -- or better yet even, contact that guy 72Zip. It's right in his backyard. Where is he, anyway? BTW -- re: Zak's refund idea. Let's hope the Cleveland Indians and Browns fans don't find out. Those clubs could go bankrupt giving back for their performances.
  2. Only place the flushes will be going bowling is Can't Lanes. It's interesting that she calls Toledo the biggest disappointment last year. No one expected them to be a contender but a few outliers. I think they were exactly as expected, worth a win here and there, but not up to winning consistently. On the other hand, I was really expecting K-ent State to win it all. Cough, cough.
  3. He helped put Fredonia New York on the map! I remember listening to him talk in a World Civ (is that what we called those perfectly horrible required classes?) lecture in Thomas Hall he was visiting, about his hometown. Seems the entire village in Italy up and moved to upstate New York after WWI. Doctor G did more to boost the University than anyone since John Buchtel. Thanks for EJ Thomas Hall itself. I'll listen again tonight to my Joe Pass album recorded there in the 80s, and remember him.
  4. Lookin' good 'til they ran into the Dynamo. Hopefully, they'll have a better game in Columbus Saturday. I'm hoping the weather will be good for Blair's and Ben's return to Ohio. The last few weekends have been pretty crappy. I'll be there regardless. Anyone else planning to see Chivas USA in Columbus this Saturday? I'll be there!! Via Fox Prime Ticket Careful of the big scroll. So, if you're going, be sure to take your UA scarves to show off to the West Coast. Extra credit to anyone making a sign saying aloha to Z.I.P.
  5. You know, I have to think there must be someone sitting over at Lee Jackson Field who has no hope of figuring into the futbol team's future, who nonetheless is capable of kicking an oval football through an upright pair of goal posts. From at least 40 yards with consistency. Trying to remember the mid-to-late-80s Copley HS product who transferred back from BeeGee and didn't figure in Lolla's (or his predecessor's?) plans, but became a consistently successful kicker of American footballs. Was it Andy Graham?? --edit-- Memory returned. Dennis Heckman!
  6. Well, after watching the Sounders being taken apart time time and again by the Galaxy on Saturday (a 4-nil thrashing -- only the second time SSFC has given up more than one home goal), and seemingly setting a MLS record for offsides calls (less than half of which were result of Galaxy traps) you can rest assured of one thing -- the experiment is over. Sounders must find another way of working scoring opportunities than sending the ball from back to goal over and over. Sigi & Co. had the same problem a year ago of finding a way to connect from midfield to the penalty area and the team was far too reliant on individual play to become the title threat they never really became. When they get their big target forward back from injury things should sort themselves out, but no 20 y.o. a year out of American college can do what was hoped for to this point. Now how about those Goats?
  7. He's noticed in Seattle too. See that Sigi went to a 4-3-3 lineup to get Stevie closer to the net vs Columbus. And hey -- check out the new 'do. The Reverse 'Z'. Must be for Zips, eh? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soun...sounders05.html
  8. What makes this Howard situation so unique is the public statement that Tressel never stopped recruiting. Locker room talk is one thing, public statements are another. There is also a pattern that has always been around the Zips program in the past 20 years. There are a lot of guys playing for the Zips who came to UofA because nobody else wanted them. I don't care what the recruiting services say about who was getting recruited by whom, that's what really goes on. One reason MAC schools suck is it is hard to get a team where half of the guys believe they are settling for something less than what they should have to be successful. It's hard to win with that mentality. In reality, Howard is so stupid that he publically admitted what a lot of guys at UofA think behind closed doors. YES, BUT...We are moving up to players who are only interested in wearing the Blue and Gold because they can't get into tOSU. In the past we had to take kids who only came to Akron because they couldn't get into MARSHALL!!
  9. Anyone else see #11, Steve-O's third goal of the season on Saturday on a breakaway? He's starting to break out.
  10. Mr. Football's & Mr. Basketball's with his attitude always seem to drop off the face of the earth. I predict he finishes his "career" at Tiffin. So I take it Shawnee St doesn't have football, eh? I recall how Coleman Crawford knocked himself -- and his program -- out trying to recruit and make eligible the oldest Lavender (Antoine?) out of HS, never could get his grades up to Akron's "all-comers" level, and his career ended at Shawnee in NAIA, I think.
  11. Thank's mes. I know this was on gozips.com, but it fills in a lot of blanks we old time Zakuani fans have about his story. For example: "Zakuani traveled across Europe to find a new team. He tried out with the senior teams of Queens Park Rangers and Wigan in England, then to AZ Alkamaar in Holland and Real Valladolid in Spain." He had to be invited to train with those (first division, except QPR) clubs, which is proof of his abilities prior to landing in Ohio. And, "With that talent — Zakuani hopes to debut with the Congolese national team in the next year or so — comes the opportunity to give back." The salsa guy at the farmers' market last week was wearing a "Congo" national jersey. I thought he must be a fan, and started talking up Steve-o. Ends up he found it at Ross's for $4.95 or something. lol.
  12. I would say it's standard. If you recall Steve-o was coming off the bench at the beginning of the year last year. If Teal earns the playing time more power to him, but it's not a big deal that he's not playing much right now. What's much more of a surprise in my opinion, is how quickly Zemanski earned a starting spot next to Blair. For someone that wasn't expected to be drafted that's amazing. Teal, I believe has one start -- and one goal. See below. http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/r...ses/?id=3991118 He should be getting more show, but few rookie forwards have a chance for significant PT in MLS. As the season wears on, and KC finds themselves one of the lowest scoring teams, you SHOULD see more or the #4 Superdraft pick. Let us hope.
  13. If you are a Cleveland Browns fan, you should look in the mirror before questioning others' reasoning.
  14. No. Going to Fork Union and then trying to get into another school. Has anyone else hear the rumor that David Harvey has solved his family problems, and wants to come home to Akron? Oh, wait, April 1st was three weeks ago.
  15. They sure found the creepers to interview didn't they? g's Wait........So you didn't find this sassy woman attractive? Check out the woman in the leopard skin behind her. I think she's stalking Freddy Montero!
  16. Thanks for the highlights Jake -- had to attend an Earth Day event, so missed most of this after the KC-LA Galaxy game -- Teal Bunbury DNP for the Wizards. In the video, what I see is the two Zips doing a good job of maintaining space and geometry offensively and getting after the ball when it's on the Earthquakes' feet. The Klestjan goal -- Blair took what the opposition gave him, but he saw the angle which set Sasha up perfectly for his blast. Great goal -- damn did that guy and team need that! Still, Bob Bradley knows well enough to leave him either on the bench or at home, come June.
  17. Little Caesars AND Papa Johns! MAC...Da Pizza Kings! But, we're vacating the Stop Hunger Bowl in San Fran (must be all dat pizza) for the Burque Bowl in Da Land of Enchantment. Is that an equal swap? Here's to the holidays in Boise. Will the glare be gone from the smurf turf by then?
  18. I was out of town for three weeks. Just returned on Sunday. Looking forward to getting back in the groove. I'm sure it's good to be back in Groovy McDonald!
  19. Bottom line of Zach's and others argument continues to be: Bigger is Better! Not! And finally: For the sake of discussion
  20. Cannot download it even with HS modem. Can someone post a still? Sounds like maybe Nike is starting up a Oregon-Washington kit war?
  21. I know some of you have seen this kid play, and one or two might have inside info on recruiting, considering the boy's club connection. James joins fullback Andrew Souders as NE Ohio members of Wilmer Cabrera's US Youth org in Bradenton. He was chosen in January for residency. Article below is from the heavily read Suburbanite newspaper , which I think was titled "Green Views" when I was a Bulldog back in yonder years. BTW -- Is anyone else considering traveling to the World Cup in Mexico next year? I think they are planning on using/featuring Guadalajara as the finals venue. Que Vamos Tecos! http://www.thesuburbanite.com/communities/...occer-in-Mexico --edit-- Wonder if that's the UA's Joe Dunn? (author)
  22. Lot of truth in what you say GP1. I only wish I knew what you mean by "liberal". It has no more meaning any more than "conservative". The people who you call "liberal", I am tempted to call "conservative" with the same snarl. Those terms should have been thrown out -- or at least we should have sought to define what we mean when we use them -- with the new century. My experience here in Hawai'i is that the politicians who receive the media's acclaim for their hawkish and "pro-military" record (and I'm not objective here, working for the DoD) are really just treating the military as a cash machine for their district. The military in Hawai'i has, as long as I have lived here (25 yrs) been seen as the largest and most important "jobs program" -- a part of economic development and growth that no politician could ever oppose. Now how does THAT promote the national defense, or the welfare of the military members I work with? Their needs to be some independent arbiter of what constitutes "enough" national spending in any area of the budget, but it comes down to which politicians head which committees and can bring home the most "loot". I also agree with your comments about Bernie Sanders. Although I did, not long ago, see him on FoxNews, he is becoming one of the usual suspects, like Barney Frank, who you expect to see any time you tune in to Keith or Rachel (my and RFR44's first-name pals). And, while I once saw the commentators as post-liberal and somewhat anti-establishment, that is becoming less common all the time, as they fight to get the kind of numbers those most popular networks pull in. In the process of making themselves more "mainstream", they end up selling out, as you said Great One. Damn, I hate agreeing with you! I reserve the right to edit this post to my liking at any future moment.
  23. Yeah. Send the National Guard to Cowlumbus! That'll serve 'em. OK Mods, take this down, NOW! I am outraged by what I just wrote.
  24. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Savage Okay, now we know! If he's anything like James Randi, he's OK by me. Who was the UA anthro prof who was such a Randi fan?
  25. I won't be surprised if the whole season is a sleeper. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
