  1. Ok, here is the way I see it....Congress is looking into SPORTS for the rich helping the rich, but we're going to spend billions to bailout the banks and builders who happen to have powerful lobbies??? WTF is going on in Washington! Take it from a constituent, Hawaii Rep. Neil Abercrombie and grandstanding is a redundancy.
  2. I wouldn't assume anything, if it weren't for some persistant rumors backing up my suspicions. She led the Big Macs in assists. Just ask their mascot, Hamburglar!BTW -- WBB used to have a total of FOURTEEN scholarship. When did it increase?
  3. It's a good thing you're only talking about basketball, GZ! If you left a teaser like that empty about, oh say.. a soccer recruit, half this board would be heading to Medina County to get the rest of the story. Hey -- it's not another Wadsworth player, is it -- I still say Goddard will be a starter next year! BTW -- ever seen Kofie Sardodie play?
  4. Thanks for that Rifle! It makes reference to a "multi-complex facility". I wonder if the fund drive includes $$ for the soccer stadium. At least I can hope.
  5. And one more reason they should have kept him: He was a loser.
  6. LOL! That buggah is just lucky he wasn't canned three or four years ago -- as he should have been. Maybe then he would have been too young to file the suit. How the heck old IS he, anyway? 65?
  7. Ben (as in Speas) has gotten enough discussion (on and off this board), that most apparently expect him to be a future Zip. That's great and shows Caleb's continued coaching and recruiting acumen. But PLEASE... don't give us false hopes about a player the likes of Kofi Sarkodie playing college football (i.e., soccer) at Akron -- or anywhere else. Seeing that kid's abilities in Korea last summer, I have to say Sarkodie is the next Jozy Altidore. As much as I would love to see America's premier 17 y.o. someday in an Akron uni, I have to say that it would be against his best interests to even consider playing US college ball when he could be learning the game at the international level day in and day out. Adu, Edu, Altidore, Sarkodie, that's the line of up and coming US superstars. Surely the kid will be entering into the Generation Adidas program.
  8. Regarding the sudden ability to play a full two team game: Even when the program was in D I-AA they were always able to play that format in the Spring Game. Have they really been THAT depleted, that they've had fewer players than 20 yrs ago?
  9. Is there something stopping you from sharing your scoop with the rest of us? Curious minds...
  10. Greenhill & Schmitt: PWOs who would be starters at most MAC schools immediately.Nagbe: partial scholarshipBunbury: Full scholarshipMy guess
  11. Ustedes estan invitado para juntame en La Tierra de Encantadamente, en Albuquerque a la Universidad de Nuevo Mexico el 12 de Septiembre cuando juegan los Zipperos y Los Lobos. (Please join me in the Land of Enchantment, Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 12 as the Zips take on the Lobos).?Quien esta viniendo? Who's coming? Write The Zip in Paradise if you're planning to attend.
  12. Does that answer your question? Whatever you do, don't count on the University of Akron Sports Information Department (Gozips.com in particular) for University of Akron sports information. You won't get more information anywhere, than right here on the Zipsnation. P.S.: If you want to see the best player in Ohio next season, join me and the Zips in Albuquerque in Sept.
  13. #32,If OSU has any sense, they'll grab Ken Bone -- the Portland State coach who beat our Zips in the Arctic this season.
  14. You can send your invitation directly to GoZips. And knowing his taste, you can wine and dine him under the golden arches.
  15. Elton Alexander had a very interesting reference to a potential new coach in his article about the transition at K-S-U: North Carolina assistant and ex-Fla St. HC Steve Robinson! How about bringing Robinson to NEO -- and along comes his former FSU and Tulsa ass't coach, and admitted best friend. Anyone remember Coleman Crawford? :DI think THAT would help jazz up the rivalry. Whatta ya think?
  16. What's Maverick Carter doing these days? UA could pay him perhaps as much as Nike did to be Head of da Posse.
  17. Comment of all time!:: Akron reminds me of Duke.Puke! If only. Or, "Take THAT Coach K!
  18. Actually, they (Jarvis or the other nut?) called him DENVER (Gilligan's island?) one time, and the next time he became "Dem-Brote". Hilarious. They made this the perfect weird game Baby!. Too bad nobody was there to stand on his head, Baby!
  19. Jarvis is sort of a poor man's Bill Walton! Sometimes you would pay him to just shut the up. Then he goes and makes a comment that makes you smile and say, "Oh, yeah." I just wish someone had at least handed those two a media guide before the start. Maybe they could have gotten someone's name right. I get crazed at hearing the Arizona Cardinals QB called out for Akron! Well, at least we didn't have Jim Chones telling Akron they can't keep missing shots on the road at the JAR.
  20. I think I saw Homer and Marge in the stands! But where was GoZips???
  21. I really believe that a great '5' player like Zeke could transform Akron into what we've been talking about perhaps since Keith took the reigns, which is what we call "The Gonzaga of the East". Since Zeke is being recruited by both Akron and Pittsburgh, I am in a semi-unique position of having met and gotten to know both my former Akron classmate Keith Dambrot, and former University of Hawaii assistant coach Jamie Dixon -- and I honestly believe these are two of the finest and genuinely nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting in college athletics. Zeke is in good hands with either Jamie or Keith. HOWEVER, I would sure love to someday come home to see the Zeke Marshall jersey hanging from the rafters inside the University of Akron's huge downtown arena, above the Keith Dambrot Court.
  22. THAT is a great question. I thought they would have had a good chance. Then Can't's win today overshadows the Bill & Mary victory. I think a K-S-U run to the final and an Akron title gives the MAC two pairs of dancing shoes. Let's hope!
  23. UNbe-(see above)lievable finish!!! It was just a matter of time. We play ONE more minute and Akron pulls this game out! I want ONE more shot at
  24. You know something strange occurred to me watching the start of the LA Galaxy-Hong Kong United match on FSC last night! I realized two weeks too late that the young Prince Valiant-looking forward I had briefly spoken to here on O'ahu during the Pan-Pacific Cup was not just named Michael Gavin He was Michael Gavin, MLS rookie out of U of Portland Pilots -- and brother of Akron Zip freshman Blair Gavin. I may write a book, "Chatting With MLS Players for Idiots".In any case, as those of you who have watched the Galaxy pre-season games -- all of which have been televised (Gee, can anyone imagine why?) -- Michael Gavin is one of the big surprises and potential future stars that have surfaced on the #2 Los Angeles-based MLS squad. He carries great running lines on his lanky 6'+ Leo Messi-haired frame, and has the athleticism and skills to score goals right away for this team, if Ruud Gullit is smart enuph to give him the PT he looks to deserve. Playing with Carlos Ruiz is going to really prepare this kid for top-flight football. Ruiz and Becks on the field at one time? There may not be enuph ego space in the interview room. Sorry Ruud, you'll have to wait. So, I can't help thinking that if the younger Mr Gavin is anythjing like his older brother, he has a great future ahead of him. Can't wait to see him playing, creating and scoring for the top-5 ranked Akron Zips in 2008.
