What's Maverick Carter doing these days? UA could pay him perhaps as much as Nike did to be Head of da Posse.

Comment of all time!:: Akron reminds me of Duke.Puke! If only. Or, "Take THAT Coach K!

Actually, they (Jarvis or the other nut?) called him DENVER (Gilligan's island?) one time, and the next time he became "Dem-Brote". Hilarious. They made this the perfect weird game Baby!. Too bad nobody was there to stand on his head, Baby!

Jarvis is sort of a poor man's Bill Walton! Sometimes you would pay him to just shut the up. Then he goes and makes a comment that makes you smile and say, "Oh, yeah." I just wish someone had at least handed those two a media guide before the start. Maybe they could have gotten someone's name right. I get crazed at hearing the Arizona Cardinals QB called out for Akron! Well, at least we didn't have Jim Chones telling Akron they can't keep missing shots on the road at the JAR.

I think I saw Homer and Marge in the stands! But where was GoZips??? -
I really believe that a great '5' player like Zeke could transform Akron into what we've been talking about perhaps since Keith took the reigns, which is what we call "The Gonzaga of the East". Since Zeke is being recruited by both Akron and Pittsburgh, I am in a semi-unique position of having met and gotten to know both my former Akron classmate Keith Dambrot, and former University of Hawaii assistant coach Jamie Dixon -- and I honestly believe these are two of the finest and genuinely nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting in college athletics. Zeke is in good hands with either Jamie or Keith. HOWEVER, I would sure love to someday come home to see the Zeke Marshall jersey hanging from the rafters inside the University of Akron's huge downtown arena, above the Keith Dambrot Court.

THAT is a great question. I thought they would have had a good chance. Then Can't's win today overshadows the Bill & Mary victory. I think a K-S-U run to the final and an Akron title gives the MAC two pairs of dancing shoes. Let's hope!

UNbe-(see above)lievable finish!!! It was just a matter of time. We play ONE more minute and Akron pulls this game out! I want ONE more shot at

You know something strange occurred to me watching the start of the LA Galaxy-Hong Kong United match on FSC last night! I realized two weeks too late that the young Prince Valiant-looking forward I had briefly spoken to here on O'ahu during the Pan-Pacific Cup was not just named Michael Gavin He was Michael Gavin, MLS rookie out of U of Portland Pilots -- and brother of Akron Zip freshman Blair Gavin. I may write a book, "Chatting With MLS Players for Idiots".In any case, as those of you who have watched the Galaxy pre-season games -- all of which have been televised (Gee, can anyone imagine why?) -- Michael Gavin is one of the big surprises and potential future stars that have surfaced on the #2 Los Angeles-based MLS squad. He carries great running lines on his lanky 6'+ Leo Messi-haired frame, and has the athleticism and skills to score goals right away for this team, if Ruud Gullit is smart enuph to give him the PT he looks to deserve. Playing with Carlos Ruiz is going to really prepare this kid for top-flight football. Ruiz and Becks on the field at one time? There may not be enuph ego space in the interview room. Sorry Ruud, you'll have to wait. So, I can't help thinking that if the younger Mr Gavin is anythjing like his older brother, he has a great future ahead of him. Can't wait to see him playing, creating and scoring for the top-5 ranked Akron Zips in 2008.

I'm sure that kid knows what it's like to be a skinhead in Athens. Seems to have recovered from the beatings.

Well, a soccer pitch is about 10-12 yards wider than a American football field, and the Infocision Stadium is not designed for soccer. Apparently they felt sharing is NOT caring. Actually, I'm sure Caleb and the former regime were in favor of a soccer-specific stadium. Just like in MLS, the soccer team will get to keep all gate receipts, concession and parking $$. Right?

Easy. MAC might not have men's soccer in a few years. I would rather be in a conference that is stable in that sport, even if we don't get to be the "big fish in the little pond". We might even get an at-large bid every once in a while with the added respect that comes from being a non-MAC team.Akron's program is on the way to being a "big fish in a big pond". Now, where is anyone getting this news f-lash about MAC teams dropping men's soccer? Soccer has traditionally been a strong sport at BeeGee, who for many years battled Cleveland State and Akron for #1 in Ohio honors (notice who was traditionally left out?). Western Michigan and Northern Illinois are located in soccer hotbeds that should make both very competitive in future years (ala Loyola and IUC). Trust me, Akron soccer isn't going anywhere. Except back to the NCAA tourney again. And hopefully a Men's Cup final four.

I thought Cincinnati was playing @ Akron. ??

All I can say about this game is, 'Man! I am shocked by the outcome! Arsenal goes on the road and beats AC Milan. Holy Cow!

The youngster who attended CVCA and was on the US 91 or 92 squad last summer (the one that eliminated him from qualification for last year's WC). He will be a HS senior in 08-09, and I would think UA should have a real chance at him.My dream: Kofi Sarkodie! Star of the US U-17s last summer, and an Ohioan from Huber Heights. But he's more likely to be playing in Europe or MLS.Blair Gavin getting some more good international experience with Thomas Rongen and staff (US U-20s). Did Blair get any PT last fall? Red shirt?

Holy smokes flush-man! Apparently K-ent got incredibly fortunate, to meet the Gaels on their only off-shooting night of the season, and to have that guy go off the way he did on the far road. I encourage you all to attend the St Mary's-Can't game down the road next fall. They will be back in the top-25, and I favor them to beat out Gonzaga for the WCC title in San Diego. But meanwhile props to our friends from Portage County for one of their biggest wins in years. It makes me proud to be from the MAC.

Wow. That's too bad, because, like I mentioned earlier, he's the most successful coach Green's ever had. I don't think any other coach ever took a team to the state playoffs.First time they made states was 1975 -- probably before your time. Only about the second year they HAD playoffs. I think they must have been back at least a couple times since then, huh?? Go Bulldogs!
-
I have always rooted for any MAC team in out-of-conference competition. That said, I've seen St Mary's play, and they are definitely a top-25 team. K-e-n-t will be fortunate to stay within 20 on their floor. Anything else is California dreamin'! B)Now don't you wish you were here in the isles, and could get up to watch the game at the JAR at 6:00 a.m.?

Does anyone know what happened to Elden Vickers at Green?? Man -- my first experience with organized sports was with the Green JHS 7th grade football, and that was Mr Vickers' first year coaching and teaching at Green. About 1971! Hey -- maybe he retired. That's longer ago than I want to imagine (or admit). BTW -- anyone remember Green track coach Mr Kelly brawling with Walter "No Neck" Williams of the Cleveland Indians basketball team?
-
Thanks! Yes -- Nagbe is considered the #2 player in Ohio. At least going into his senior HS season he was considered the only one capable of challenging Green for state POY. His fall to third-team all-state makes you wonder if he had a disappointing year, but it could be based on his team's performance or a number of factors.I'm not too familiar with Bunbury. WIll look for that site. Mahalo nui loa from home of the upcoming Pan Pacific Cup with Landon Donovan and LA Galaxy (oh, yeah, they have another player ...Carlos Ruiz!) Look for the tourney I hear to be picked up by ESPN!?

Website for Cleveland Soccer Academy states that two members of their boys 1990 Impact squad are headed to Akron to play next year. The two are Solon HS, first team Div I all-Ohioan Ryan Greenhill, one of just three NE Ohioans on the D-1 all-state team. Joining Ryan as UA recruit is Berea High School's Thomas Schmitt, a third team all-state player. I'm not sure about positions, but suspect both may be forwards.Bad news -- not sure just how much chance Caleb had to get him -- is that Mr Everything in Ohio HS football (soccer), Strongsville forward Michael Green (recently added to the US U-18 national squad) is headed to Albuquerque, to join the Lobos. This Birmingham, England-born phenom will be a big name player for UNM.Please add any info you have on the recruiting front.

When was the last time these two schools met on the hardwood? Used to be a GREAT Div II rivalry between schools like Akron, ODU, VCU, Roanoke.

I'm still waiting for the article on the new OC.

Wow! A gentleman and a wordsmith! OK - maybe the first, but his name is not Smith. I know that for a fact. I have a friend who says he knows GoZips (don't call me a namedropper, cause I'm not referring to any BE BB coaches!) , and he is a VERY heavy contributor to the JAR Arena. Well, at least the refreshment stands.

orrr we could just chop them down and mulch them....my god do you go to Can't state or something?!? We're not tree huggers here LOL! Do you suppose we could set the board, so that when a comment this stupid is made, it automatically inserts a the same way it changes K-E-N-T to CANT?
