  1. My biggest complaint (somewhat minor though) about the end scoreboards has more to do with the operators (and I know the time-keeper personally) not keeping them current (players go in or out and their stats remain for a while). I am a season ticket holder in the upper reserved (section 2A) also. I don't mind looking to the end boards for updates on shooting/rebounding etc. Those boards predate the center board by several years if I recall correctly. Upgrading them (maybe in a new arena) might help.
  2. I liked last year's "Let's Get It Started" highlight film... the video is timed so that Romeo dunks right on the beat of the music and it adds emphasis to the visual of the dunk.
  3. Hey... I remember Zippy carrying a little Zippy doll in the zippy pouch... it was kinda cute. But a more "intimidating" idea... since kangaroos are from Auzzie land... how about carrying a boomerang? (not unlike in the AWESOME cartoon they play during the game).
  4. Maybe they can call it "breaking ground" if you consider the demolion of the buildings on the already acquired properties as breaking ground. Real estate transfers are public info and may be reviewed at the Summit County Recorder's office (also available on line). I don't have time to check them out myself, but anyone else is free to.
  5. We do still have McFadden... unfortunately for our shooting in the game he is helping coach now since he graduated.
  6. maybe we could use the spot vacated by Bubba to get a big (6-10 ish) JUCO to help fill that void. it's too late for any high school signing for next year I think.
  7. aim high! if you can see it, you can do it!
  8. I used to have a home-made Zips tie (blue with yellow/gold stripes and the self-stick Zippy patch that was handed out years ago) but I haven't seen any in a long time. I think the demand is down for ties since most workplaces don't require them anymore. I'd love to see a new one tho... it'd be great to wear to church (I deal with the Sunday school kids there a lot).
  9. Yes. He was scheduled to speak for a Summa sponsored thing at EJ Thomas.
  10. They would probably lobby to get seeded in a different bracket to avoid a potential loss to an in-state school. That way they can continue to claim supremacy without actually playing for it.
  11. We (pep band late 80's) used to have a reply to the opposing team's starting player intorductions... (player's name announced then "Who's He?"... "So What!"... "Who Cares!" and a few others. They also used to take a Buchtelite in and "read" during the intros.
  12. from the Idaho Statesman . comWAC men's basketball teams will have nine chances this weekend to make a statement to the NCAA Tournament committee that the conference deserves multiple bids to March Madness. The teams take a break from conference play to participate in the Bracket Buster event put on by ESPN, and a strong showing by the conference could be the argument the WAC needs to justify multiple selections. Here is a look at the nine games involving WAC teams, with each game's importance given a rating.Akron at Nevada, 7 p.m. MST Friday (ESPNU): Importance rating: Off the charts. This is the most important game for the WAC. A win against the Mid-American Conference's best team could be the difference-maker when the tournament committee is deciding which of those traditionally underappreciated leagues gets a second team in. Prediction: Wolf Pack win at home.
  13. As much as I hate to sound like I'm taking their side... they were probably counting sold tickets and not butts in the seats. I've been to all the Zips home games and the 3k average is about right for butts in the seats. I can remember the Crawford years when 800 was the average... go KD!
  14. I'm also bringing my wife. What better way to spend Valentine's Day than watching the falcons get clipped?GO ZIPS!!!
  15. since when do they get paid? I know the marching band gets a small scholarship (it was $100 when I was in). We were all volunteer for basketball and we used to have 40-60 show up and have a good time. We sat in the bleachers on the visitor end (still marked "BAND") and made lots of noise. I don't know what's up with them now. They sound terrible in the corner... even with the sound system.
  16. very cool!!!GO ZIPS!!!
  17. I hope you mean OUR sideline!GO ZIPS!!!
  18. "Ohio's Pride" goes back a looooonnnnggg way.
  19. Actually only female Kangaroos have pouches, but I don't think it matters either way. Zippy is #1!GO ZIPS!!!
  20. you go right on singing it! the words were actually written by members of Tau Beta Sigma (Nat. Hon. Band sorority) around 1988. We had to memorize the words to the fight song and the alma mater. I would suspect at most big-time schools most of the students can and do sing it at games.
  21. but the rink could be a multipurpose arena also used for basketball...GO ZIPS!!!
  22. I don't recall if there is a better copy, but there is more music available (including 2 versions of the fight song "Blue & Gold") at www.zipsalumniband.com. The recording I was on predated CD's but interfx has been able to get them ripped for download.GO ZIPS!!!
  23. The problem might be that these two schools are geographically so close that the public doesn't know which band wagon to jump onto yet. Also the local TV media doesn't want abandon its hometown team (Vikes) or don't want to appear to favor one or the other, so they either don't cover them or just don't care. I wish the Akron TV news was still on (I don't have cable and bet that many others still don't or have Dish and don't get it).
  24. I received a Christmas gift of an Akron Zips t-shirt purchased from the Cracker Barrel in Montrose. It's not the iron on version but the one with the stitched on "Akron Zips" logo. I've also seen UA stuff at the local Giant Eagle stores occasionally.
