  1. I went to the game two years ago and had a blast cheering on Frye and the Zips and "Ohio's Pride" the Univ. of Akron marching band. Unfortunately I won't be able to go this year.
  2. I'm sure the "frozen Turkey Bowl" didn't help that. We were thinking of going to that game but wimped out.
  3. On the way home yesterday at around 5:30 I heard a spot for season tickets. It came across well especially in informing how affordable the family plan is, but the little "fear the roo" jingle wasn't that fearful.
  4. For those who may have missed it, GOZIPS.com just posted the 2006 summer prospectus. It shows Mraz leaving, probable starters are Joyce, Travis, Dials, Wood and Conyers. Also lists '06-'07 honors candidates (Travis, Joyce & Wood).
  5. Yes, it used to be a big rivalry, but not as big as UA vs Can't. Zippy and the YSU penguin would often steal the show with their sparring.
  6. I forgot to mention... business guy said they donated $5mil so they had naming rights locked up.
  7. While having lunch today, my wife overheard a conversation between two people (one high-up UA person, another a high-up businessman in the area) regarding the stadium. According to UA guy, they need to have $30 mil to announce it and are "in the 20's". Also, the site is as has been reported (NE corner of Union and Exchange). Some of the property owners are holding out for more $$$ following the "leaking of the site location" (leak? it was in the Beacon Journal a few years ago with concept pictures!) and it probably will require eminant domain.
  8. "Fear the Roo" may not be the most original (I work with retired navy guys... one's got a "fear the goat... beat army" bumper sticker) but I think we've done it the best!
  9. Seems like the articles they do publish are things that are "cut-n-paste" (or close to it) from another source a few weeks after being published somewhere else. I've given up on them as a source (except for Razor's blog). All the good stuff is here on ZN!
  10. here's a link... I dug it out of the html...http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/231/logo10245ph.jpg
  11. For a while when the end zone was the student section and someone decided it should be called the "Zip Zone". Obviously that didn't last. There used to be some kegs in the end zone before the RB went dry.
  12. The 2006 Ticket Guide I received in the mail yesterday still shows sections 17-20 as general admission. The "Roo Zoo" must have been conjured up after they released them for publishing. One would think they would do some sort of PR announcement about creating the new "Roo Zoo" area. That's the third different section that the band has occupied in the last few years. We were in sect 2 when I was there, then they got moved to seect 24 when LO was coach.
  13. unfortunately, not all of those 1000 members are UA fans... some are here just to stir the pot (antonio, redsteve, etc...) or get info.
  14. I was wondering how much economics had to do with that. They won't have to pay to relocate... they are coaches of "minor" sports so they don't get paid much anyway... our budget is bigger than CSU's so we should be able to pay more... sounds like a step up for the coaches anyway... they already know the local area for recruiting... maybe these are just random thoughts, but still
  15. Here's Zippy...Zippy's myspace.com page
  16. Do a search on there for Zippy... someone made a page but Zippy has no friends yet.
  17. Zen must have been an English major.
  18. Pride commits to UA - Cincinnati.com article
  19. Leader Publications - West Side Leader (West Akron weekly newspaper) articleI wonder what property the is referring to... sounds like one of the Exchange Street "stadium" properties.
  20. Anyone know if the UA license plate money goes to the sports scholarship program, or just to the general budget somewhere?
  21. I think the expanding waistlines of the Akron fans have reduced the capacity
  22. Mostly just SWAG. Not all tickets will be selling for the same price (at least that's usually how it works) so I figured there would have to be some low-cost student/faculty and the nose-bleed and end-zone sections that would bring the avg price down.
  23. If Toledo clears an avg of $5/ticket after all expenses (busing, rent, security, etc), they would make around $290K for their 58K tickets, probably better than they would clear for a normal game at home. I'm sure the NCAA doesn't really care how they make their D1 season avg to stay D1 (other than frowning on give-aways and ghost fans).
  24. I think they were busy getting LP's contract done first. As long as he stays, things look good for the university.
  25. Here's the story about WR Jerome Royal from the ABJ.
