  1. I posted the attendance numbers for last year and had a comparison to previous years in it. It is somewhere in this forum.
  2. Didn't the Brown's fan day at the Info accomplish that? And the LeBron welcome home party brought those same people to campus again. If those parents haven't seen the changes at Akron's campus yet, nothing is going to bring them out of their bubble to do so. Especially not Browns training camp.
  3. I would rather drink outside my car. I'm heading over to 69 taps in a few for a few beers and then might stop at Daves and pick up beer.
  4. The Crew game on campus brought 2,000 people to campus with a very very tiny little bit of marketing, if any at all. The ones that knew about it were the ones that breath and die Akron soccer.
  5. UA soccer camps bring thousands to campus over the summer, or at least they did when Porter was coaching. Those camps always sold out and were very expensive.
  6. If the Browns were to practice on our soccer field, we would have to get very serious about a campaign asking for the resignation of our AD. His resume at Akron is already a disaster.
  7. I should be able to make it for tailgating but I don't have anything like the tent or grill on me. What's the plans for today's game?
  8. I went ahead and created a picture of myself holding a sign for Zippy, whatever it's worth, I hope it helps.
  9. GP1, i know you don't like soccer but I hope you've been to a UA soccer game before, it is a great experience and the field is very impressive. It is something us soccer fans are very proud of. We have one of the best fields in college soccer. Not something we want to give up on. I understand people like the excitement the Browns could bring to campus over the summer if they moved their training camp to Akron. But i honestly think most of those Browns fans are diehard Buckeye fans that couldn't give a care in the world about Akron football. If you want people to come to campus, want them to come for our teams.
  10. Akron football and soccer fans don't need the Browns on campus. What we need is for both programs to win, win, win, and win some more. If Akron football has a good season, the program itself will bring people to campus. Let's hope for a bowl season. Let's hope Penn State is the only loss, and let's hope we aren't required to bring pitchforks to Cub Cadet asking for Embick to be fired at the end of the season. It is nice to think about people coming to campus, but we should all prefer to have people come for our programs and not for some crap organization from up north.
  11. Shaun Docking might have been a better choice than Embick? 08/29/14 at No. 8 Connecticut Joseph J. Morrone Stadium - Storrs, Conn. W, 3-2 09/01/14 at No. 2 Maryland Ludwig Field - College Park, Md. L, 3-2 09/05/14 at No. 21 Charlotte Transamerica Field - Charlotte, N.C. W, 2-1 (2OT)
  12. They want grass fields, which is unfortunate because we could provide 3 very nice artificial turf fields, one of them is indoor. As for grass fields, I don't think Cub Cadet Field should be considered because American football would ruin our beautiful soccer pitch. Regardless of the benefits of having the Browns practice in Akron, that field should not be torn up for practices. Other grass fields to consider, the Lee Jackson Track field (has space limitations), and the field near Manny's where they moved the tennis courts (also has space limitations). Can't has similar issues regarding their turf stadium and indoor facility, but have 2 open grass fields near Dix Staidum, and a grass soccer field (not a beautiful pitch or program worth the consideration). I don't think it would be simple for the UA to allow the Browns to use Cub Cadet Field as there would probably be strong resistance from both of our soccer programs and from our soccer supporters.
  13. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/07/27/influential-indiana-university-coach-todd-yeagley-backs-proposal-split-colle "The growing chorus of advocates for a revamped college-soccer schedule picked up a very influential voice on Saturday, as Indiana University head coach Todd Yeagley threw his backing behind the proposed plan for NCAA soccer to shift from a fall season to a year-long season."
  14. The Will Johnson pick makes no sense unless it was done to have someone from Canada represent the team.
  15. Was happy to see the Crew win but sucks it came at the expense of a loss for Bush. I hope he gets more playing time. There was nothing he could do against Anor's 2nd goal.
  16. Not sure what the latest news on Yedlin is, but it looks like the transfer to AS Roma fell through. They offered Seattle $4.1 million for him, but wont take less than $6.5 million. http://mlsmultiplex.com/2014/07/20/ranking-deandre-yedlin-options-overseas/ Regardless, Seattle is going to have to start paying him DP money soon if they want to keep him. With all the money the league is getting from expansion, let's hope they increase the amount of DP's a team can sign. I will just have to suffer watching the Crew be a bottom dweller in the standings. Good thing there's no relegation.
  17. Move Yedlin to RW and you could easily have Sarkodie at RB. Sarkodie is just as good as Yedlin.
  18. UCLA had 5 players on the WC roster in 2006 and 1994 http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/college-soccer-and-the-2014-wc-team.2005122/
  19. CONCACAF was so close to sending 2 Euro clubs home. It is too bad Mexico blew their lead late in the game. Hope USA make it 2 CONCACAF teams in the quarterfinals.
  20. The TV ratings are considered a big deal for this sport and all sports as this is a major change from the past. Every news outlet mentioned the TV ratings, including the Beacon Journal. I wasn't searching for it as it was right in my face from every different areas, including facebook. All i did was share it here, which I think is appropriate givin our outstanding soccer program in Akron and the amazing support it has had in the past. It wasn't long after posting the TV ratings that the soccer nay sayers came to poo poo this newsworthy information.
  21. Only 4 players in the starting lineup play in Europe. One of those left the MLS 2 years ago for Stoke City (EPL).Check out MLS attendance, not bad. http://mlsattendance.blogspot.com TV ratings are the new frontier for the MLS to conquer. Other than that, everything has been going very well. They just signed a TV deal for $90 million a year, more than what NBC payed for the EPL rights. There are cities scrambling to make a successful MLS expansion bid. Sacramento had a crowd in the 20,000's for a minor league game. I believe these teams are paying $100 million plus to enter the league. The Yankees seem to think the MLS is a good investment. Watching ESPN and saw a MLB pitcher that threw a no hitter being interviewed, he is wearing a USMNT soccer jersey in his interview. You know, i don't think all the positives around the sport will make a difference for you. You seem stubbornly against soccer and will dwell on any negative point you can find, and will make excuses for all the positives happening. I never cared about soccer for the first 20 years of my life. Watching the World Cup was the only time I watched the sport. Then i discovery Zips soccer. Once you start getting into soccer, there's no escaping it. No commercials, no constant timeouts, no weak foul calls for barely touching someone while they shoot like in basketball, no rule changes every year like football. I understand there are players that will flop to try and gain an advantage, even Dwayne Wade does it. Is taking a charge in basketball any different? I understand some players act like babies when fouled, but the league has done a lot to crack down on these occurrences. The MLS issues fines and suspensions for embellishing fouls.
