  1. Not sure if you live out of town, but the city is dominated with OSUcks fans. There's probably more OSU fans in this city than there are Akron fans. 90% of those fans never went to OSU and probably 20-30% of them went to Akron. There are so many Akron alum that root for OSU every week during football season and don't give a thought to the Akron football team. Hardcore Akron fans hate seeing this. Another hardcore requirement is to become familiar with Akron's teams. You might not like this, but Akron plays OSU several times during the year in different sports. These sports play them every year 1 Baseball http://gozips.com/sports/bsb/2011-12/schedule 2 Men's soccer http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2012-13/schedule 3 men's and women's Golf http://gozips.com/sports/mgolf/2012-13/schedule 4 Rifle http://gozips.com/sports/rifle/2012-13/schedule 5 Track and Field http://gozips.com/sports/track/2012-13/schedule 6 Tennis http://gozips.com/sports/track/2012-13/schedule Every now and then, the football team will play them. OSU has avoided playing Akron in basketball. From what I've heard, hardcore Cincinnati fans dislike OSU as well. I'm willing to bet UMiami fans dislike Florida and Florida State. Pittsburgh fans dislike Penn State. Louisville fans dislike Kentucky. Memphis fans dislike Tennessee. Etc... It amazes me that we still have to explain this to the casuals.
  2. Hatred for OSUcks is part of being a hardcore Akron fan. It amazes me that people don't understand that.
  3. so many wonderful memories this year. Porter has created something very special at Akron and I look forward to seeing him succeed as a professional coach. The Timbers are now my second MLS team.
  4. I remember watching that game on TV
  5. I will be tailgating for this game. Sorry I missed the last 2 games. Expect the tent to be up on Sunday.
  6. or kids learn to tackle wrong at a younger age before they're physically ready to. And they continue to tackle the wrong way in the future. It's harder to unlearn something than to learn something new.
  7. around 90% of the time an MLS broadcaster mentions a former Akron player, they mention that the player is from the University of Akron. Our program is well known and respected by the soccer media. I'm not just talking about games on matchday live, I'm talking about games on the NBC, NBCSN, and ESPN. The University of Akron has been mentioned well over 100 times during MLS games this year. UConn's coach being on the selection committee is the reason why they have a top 4 seed.
  8. Ray Reid, UConn coach, is on selection committee. http://www.bigeast.org/News/tabid/435/Arti...-committee.aspx
  9. Travel also plays a huge rule in the selection process. The NCAA places reduced travel costs as a higher priority than fairness. You have to feel bad for the teams that play in the western part of the US, their only ticket to the NCAA is through their conference tournament no matter how they perform during the regular season. It's all about keeping costs low. Making $$$ is the #1 priority for the NCAA. Did the Big East pay money to get a spot on the selection committee? It's possible.
  10. I'm so fed up with the MAC. What has the MAC done to improve itself over the past 10 years? The basketball and soccer teams will continue to get snubbed as long as the leaders in this conference continue to be complacent with mediocrity. We do not live in a fair world and shouldn't expect fairness to be handed to us. Ray Reid picked the teams he's suppose to. The Big East cares about soccer, and they've rewarded themselves for its efforts. The Big East hasn't won a title since 2000. Akron is a threat to the Big East's title hopes this year, of course we're going to get snubbed by them. We are stuck in the MAC and there's nothing we can do to change that. What we can do is demand a higher standard from those that run this conference. The MAC needs to kick FAU out and force UMass in for all sports. ODU and James Madison would be great additions for all sports. The Colonial conference is sending 4 teams to the tournament this year. I'm sick of seeing the MAC only send 1 team to the basketball and soccer tournaments every year.
  11. Ray Reid, UConn coach, is on selection committee. http://www.bigeast.org/News/tabid/435/Arti...-committee.aspx The Big East games the system and this is what we have to deal with. Obviously, the BIg East places a high emphasis on soccer and will do what's in their best interest. I don't think the MAC cares all that much to make any improvements. Should we be upset with the NCAA for giving powers to those who want it, or should we be upset with the MAC for being complacent with mediocrity. The MAC has some horrible leaders and it shows every year when our soccer and basketball programs get snubbed. It's a shame on us for not calling for their heads. FAU needs to go, UMass should be forced out for football unless they bring all sports.
  12. I would trade our football program and the cost of Infocision stadium for a world class basketball arena that can support hockey and a better soccer stadium. "Nobody" watched Akron football when they were winning. We took 10,000 to Detroit only to fill the lower seating of Ford field. Compare our numbers to the SEC, Big 12, Big 10, and PAC 12. Heck, even the Big East and ACC makes are numbers look pathetic. Akron could be undefeated in football right now and we'd still have a lot of empty seats at the Info during games. Zips Football Attendance:
  13. Even though I have a very negative opinion about you based on your unintelligent soccer reference, I understand you're going through a lot of pain with Zips football. I still love all Zips fans.
  14. When I was a student, you had to be a Rowdy to sit down low resulting in a lot of students to sit up top. Is this rule still in place?
  15. it's sad that visiting students get better seats than the Rowdies.
  16. WMU played everyone back on defense and did not use their forwards much to stretch the field. They were playing for the tie, a style we are going to start seeing more often in the tournament. If we are going to be NCAA champs again, we need to score sooner in the game to open up the other team.
  17. WMU is playing for a tie
  18. I'll be in lot 9 around 4:30 to start the tailgate. Hope to see a lot of you there.
  19. NIU must play better in the cold. At least Buffalo didn't make it, they only had 114 people at the match yesterday. Florida Atlantic needs kicked out, they're dragging down everyone's SOS and RPI.
  20. * BGSU clinches a tournament berth with a win or a tie against WVU; * Even if BGSU loses to WVU, the Falcons clinch a tournament berth if WMU loses at Akron; * Seven of the nine scenarios result in BGSU making the tournament; * The only way BGSU does NOT make the tournament is if the Falcons lose to WVU AND Western Michigan beats or ties Akron. Here are each of the nine possible outcomes on Saturday night, along with the W-L-T records of each of the four teams if such a scenario occurred, and BGSU's resulting tournament seed. Keep in mind that this is one SIDs interpretation, and there is the possibility that he made a mistake or two in the compilation of these scenarios. Without further ado, here we go... BGSU WINS & WMU LOSES – BGSU 4-2-1, NIU 4-2-1, WMU 3-3-1, WVU 3-3-1 – BGSU ties for 2nd – BGSU is #2 seed by virtue of a win over WMU (NIU lost to WMU) – BGSU vs. NIU in semifinals BGSU TIES & WMU LOSES – NIU 4-2-1, BGSU 3-2-2, WVU 3-2-2, WMU 3-3-1 – BGSU ties for 3rd – BGSU is #3 seed by virtue of a tie with NIU (NIU beat WVU) – BGSU vs. NIU in semifinals BGSU LOSES & WMU LOSES – NIU 4-2-1, WVU 4-2-1, BGSU 3-3-1, WMU 3-3-1 – BGSU ties for 4th – BGSU is #4 seed by virtue of the win over WMU – BGSU vs. Akron in semifinals BGSU WINS & WMU TIES – BGSU 4-2-1, NIU 4-2-1, WMU 3-2-2, WVU 3-3-1 – BGSU ties for 2nd – BGSU is #2 seed by virtue of the win over WMU (NIU lost to WMU) – BGSU vs. NIU in semifinals BGSU TIES & WMU TIES – NIU 4-2-1, BGSU 3-2-2, WVU 3-2-2, WMU 3-2-2 – BGSU in 3-way tie for 3rd – BGSU is #3 seed by virtue of head-to-head record among the 3 teams involved in the tie (BGSU 1-0-1, WVU 0-0-2, WMU 0-1-1) – BGSU vs. NIU in semifinals BGSU LOSES & WMU TIES – NIU 4-2-1, WVU 4-2-1, WMU 3-2-2, BGSU 3-3-1 – BGSU is 5th BGSU WINS & WMU WINS – WMU 4-2-1, BGSU 4-2-1, NIU 4-2-1, WVU 3-3-1 – BGSU in 3-way tie for 2nd – BGSU is #2 seed by virtue of head-to-head record among the 3 teams involved in the tie (BGSU 1-0-1, WMU 1-1-0, NIU 0-1-1) – BGSU vs. WMU in semifinals BGSU TIES & WMU WINS – WMU 4-2-1, NIU 4-2-1, BGSU 3-2-2, WVU 3-2-2 – BGSU ties for 4th – BGSU is #4 seed by virtue of the win over WMU (WVU tied WMU) – BGSU vs. Akron in semifinals BGSU LOSES & WMU WINS – WMU 4-2-1, NIU 4-2-1, WVU 4-2-1, BGSU 3-3-1 – BGSU is 5th
  21. NIU is in. Buffalo is out.
  22. Steve Zakuani is riding the bench in Seattle's game today
  23. NIU beats Buffalo 1-0 in front of 114 fans. Very pathetic crowd for a crucial game http://www.niuhuskies.com/sports/m-soccer/.../110212aaa.html
  24. NIU currently leads Buffalo 1-0, they're charging $7.95 for their video stream which is a waste, here's a link for live stats http://livestats.prestosports.com/buffalo/...gpzroix5igpybgr
