  1. Well, I made them switch the Akron game to most of the TVs, and turn the sound up for it. I had to talk to the manager a couple times about this. She did this after I made her realize there was a big Akron crowd and only one OSU loser sitting by himself at the bar. This loser would yell out loud on purpose if OSU did anything like get a first down. He was really pissed about the whole sound thing because he was bitching to the manager too. He ended up sitting at one of the side tvs that have their own volume. The thing that pissed me off was the Barley House. OSU balloons in the front and every worker wearing OSU jerseys. If I purchase a bar in the near future, I'll never let stupid stuff like that happen. Anyone could go anywhere for an OSU game, but for a real Akron atmosphere, my place will be the place for Akron fans to go.btw, $1 drafts really F'd me up. I had 14 of them ($18 tab) and around 5 or 6 rum n cokes at the Barley House. What a night.
  2. the article was good until the end. When he says, "well you just lost" He could have thought of a better ending.
  3. i go to panini's and they had the osu game on the speakers, i bitch and they turn music up, i bitch again and got my way. I had to talk to the manager to get them to make the AKron game on the speakers. It's sad. this is Akron, not Columbus. But I was happy after they put osu on the side tvs, This is Akron. So I go to the Barley house right after, What do i see???? OSU balloons in the front and the workers all have OSU jerseys on. I gave the waitress hell because she was an Akron student. She told me the owner was an OSU alumni. To hell with him and to hell with OSU, I'll put him out of business soon. I'm starting an Akron revolution. Forget about the Buckeyes, Go ZIPS! To hell with the buckeyes. People might say I'm jealous, no, I'm just pissed. This is Akron, not Columbus.
  4. Maybe Can't's paying these people money to help hype up the season to draw people to the games. It's a little far fetched but the only way to explain this. They looked for help from a marketing consulting firm, kinda makes you think they're desperate.
  5. you don't understand the point, it's about being treated like second class in the city of Akron if you go to a bar to root for the Zips. I'm willing to bet you $20 that OSU will be on the speakers at Johnny Maloys on Saturday. And I wasn't refering to just academics, I was referring to the school all together. Academics, athletics, etc. You have been wrong in every post and say a bunch of crap because you don't want to admit to the fact that OSU hinders Akron's growth. Get off their nuts.
  6. i'm not thinking it's going to happen but for some reason I have a feeling that it might. Beating Penn State will be great.
  7. You only gave football stats? I'm confused now. Go back and read all of my posts. You'll see that I was talking about both schools all together, not just the football programs. Did you see the article that says Akron has the biggest increase in incoming freshman, I'm sure OSU knows, they don't want to see another school besides themselves grow in Ohio. You know that. This whole time I've been talking about how both schools compete on a broader scale and all you've done is given me football stats.I started a post that addresses the issue we're faced with on Saturday, which you can't deny is true. The post was started as an idea of how we can overcome that issue by getting together and putting OSU on the small screen. It seemed like that idea bothered you. Would you rather see OSU on the big screen or something?? Does that upset you if a bunch of Akron people get together to get the game on the big screen so that OSU fans have to watch it on a small screen?? I'll bash OSU just like if you bash Michigan. On Saturday at 3:30, i hope the OSU game is on a side tv so that I can root for Northern Illinios. It's not jealousy, it's competition. I'm trying to belittle OSU which a lot of people don't expect. It's time to open everyones eyes to the University of Akron. There is another school besides OSU to root for and that's what I want people to know. You don't have to like OSU because you live in Ohio.
  8. If you can get girls, you can't get them on the grand scale that Sizmore can. It's like comparing OSU to TRI-C, or one of those other small community colleges. Akron isn't small, it's a D1 school. Your comment was ignorant. And it still doesn't explain how Akron and OSU don't compete. Your analogy has nothing to do with OSU and Akron not competing because it's about the competition of girl supremacy. Not the best looking girls choose OSU nor the brightest. If you were going for law, you'd be stupid to go to OSU over Akron. If you were a poloymer student, you'd have Akron on the top of your list. Your analogy is dumb and a horrible attempt to prove your point. State facts, not some dumb analogy that doesn't even compare.Panini's sounds like a good idea. $1 drafts means I'll probably spend around $15 on beer. Who's bringing the beer bong???
  9. I've never said anything about disliking the OSU fans from Columbus. My issue is with the the fans that live in this area that would rather forget about the Zips and root for the Buckeyes. Please explain to me how OSU is not Akron's competition??? Maybe they aren't directly competitors in football, but as a college in general, they are. When high school students in this area are figuring out which college is the right choice for them, Akron and OSU are big competitors. Your blind if you don't think so. When the locals can't decide if they want to watch OSU play football on TV or take a trip to the Rubber Bowl, that's competition. Akron competes with OSU in many ways. Think of it from a business standpoint. But please, go ahead and explain to me how the University of Akron and the Ohio State University aren't competitors. Because you have yet to justify your claim while I've done this over and over again.
  10. I'll bash OSU just like you'll bash Michigan. OSU is Akron's competition whether you like it or not and you can't tell me they aren't.I started a "Forget about the Buckeyes, Go Zips" campaign because I'm tired of seeing OSU stuff everywhere around here while Akron stuff is no where to be seen. The thing that really pissed me off was seeing a child that looked around the age of 9 or 10 at a basketball game against Eastern Michigan wearing an OSU hat going around saying "this is a real school." What is up with that? When are the people around here going to realize that Akron's a great school that has great athletic programs that can be very entertaining. It's hard for them to realize that when they'd rather sit at home and watch OSU than go to the Rubber Bowl to watch Akron. And when they do go to Akron events, they act like we're a second class program and wear OSU gear.I'm not jealous, I'm simply just taking shots at my schools competition, if you don't like the bashing, get over it. It's going to keep coming. This post was made to address the reality we're faced with on Saturday when it might be hard to watch your local team at a local bar or restuarant because the locals would rather watch a team from a city far away.
  11. And don't forget, you'll never be a buckeye no matter how much of a fan you are unless you've ever actually went to school there. So get over it.
  12. You sound like the typical front runner. Let me ask you this question. How many classes have you taken at OSU???? Your a retard if you don't think Akron competes with OSU. You'll see it this saturday when Akron fans have to put up with OSU fans all over in the local bars. This is Akron, not Columbus. It's sad that anyone in Akron would choose watching OSU over Akron. But you'll see it. Why, because OSU competes with Akron in this market for fan support.I know you'll be watching the Buckeyes and wishing you were there instead of Akron, well, what's holding you back, go. The Buckeyes are garbage, go root for OU too if you want to root for a team because they have Ohio in it.Ohio State has nothing to do with Akron but you see people supporting them around here more than they would Akron. That's a challenge the University has to deal with every Saturday when people decide to stay home and watch OSU on TV instead of taking a trip to the rubber bowl. No one said anything about being rivals, we're talking about competition here. Believe it or not, OSU is one of Akron's competitors. If you don't think so, I hope your not a business major. When Charlie Frye made that comment about OSU and the Beacon Journal, what did that make you think??? OSU is an intruder in the Akron market. It's time we fight back and say "To Hell with OSU, GO ZIPS!!!!"
  13. I'm trying to get people to play soccer from like 12:30 to 2 at cascade, then somewhere to watch the game at 3:30. I have class from 10 to 11:30 on saturdays so I can't go to the Penn State game unless your willing to give me a ticket, I'll miss class for it.
  14. Everyone, we're faced with a challenge this upcoming saturday. Not the challenge of beating Penn State, but the challenge of beating OSU. Both games are going to be played at 3:30. And I'm worried to see what game the bars are focused on. For some reason I think Johnny Maloys and other local bars will have the OSU game all over and on the speakers. So What can we do about this. I think we should all get together in our Akron gear and head out to the same bar 30 or more deep. WE can show these locals that AKron is a team people actually root for and maybe get that crap of a team osu off the big screen so those panzies have to watch AKron...... FEAR THE ROO!! let's do it.
  15. I received this email and posted it here for anyone interested."ROCK THE ROO First came Fear the Roo. In the fall of 2006 it is now Rock the Roo. The Taylor Institute is working closely with the marketing staff at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall (EJT, The Civic, Lock 3) to design and implement a campus-wide campaign to make all members of the university community, especially students, more aware of the events and programs associated with this world class facility. The project is currently in full swing under the student leadership of Sara Eddy (a senior eMarketing and Advertising major). Over the next week, you will see posters of the “Roo” with shades under the tagline of “Rock the Roo” and a URL for the brand new campus events website(eventsatua.com). Visit the website, we think you will like it. Along with the posters, you will see “hot cards” with the Roo on the front and a request for information on the back. Take one of the cards, complete the information on the back, and then return it to the lobby of EJ Thomas on either Tuesday (September 5) or Wednesday (September 6). When you turn in your completed card, you will receive a free “Rock the Roo” t-shirt. These shirts are in limited supply and will not be sold in the bookstore. This offer is for any member (students, faculty, staff, administration) who completes the card. Also, be spotted wearing your shirt on Student Appreciation Day, Wednesday, September 6, and your name will be placed in a drawing for a number of cools prizes, such as tickets to upcoming campus events. The information you provide on the back of the card will be used to create a marketing database. During the Fall Semester, three different marketing classes will then use this information to segment different audiences on campus, and then develop and implement a targeted marketing campaign.ThanksBill Hauser, PhD"
  16. Dante's GameDay Grill is a good sports bar in Akron that will most likely have the game on
  17. thanks for that link, i've been looking at it all day trying to figure out my next move.
  18. Western Michigan isn't bad. I'm actually worried when Akron plays them
  19. hey ziptrumpet, send me that link, i want to know who owns the land next to me because I'm looking to buy it and build a duplex or some kind of income property on it.
  20. careful though, if the bums that stand outside of the Aeroes, Indians, Browns, and Cavs game hear about this, they'll be all over the Rubber Bowl asking for extra tickets and then selling them for crack money.Sorry if this comment offends anyone. Maybe they don't all use that money for crack, But it just irritates me to think that they might.
  21. It would be great to see a story about ZipsNation.Org in the Beacon Journal. I doubt they'd ever do one though. I was thinking that we should all chip in and advertise ZipsNation.org in the Beacon. If those nasty strip clubs can do it (XTC and Lisa's, the nastiest strip clubs in Akron) so can ZipsNation.org.
  22. the facebook group is pretty big. If anyone wants to invite more people, let me know and i'll make you an Administrator
  23. If we get our hopes up too much about beating NC State, it will be a big let down if we don't. I don't want to see the whole season go to waste for some just because we lost to a team that always has better recruits and a bigger fan base. I didn't understand at all how some people picked us to beat NC State and lose to Central Michigan right after. If we are good enough to beat NC State, we'll sweep the MAC. I'm predicting a 7-5 season and another bowl game if we don't get the shaft. If we beat NC State, I'll be thrilled. But I'm not going to let it break my heart if we don't. Looking forward to the game though. I'm excited. We'll see what happens. Predictions mean nothing.
