Just because this is Ohio doesn't mean we should rule out a dome. If you remember the Can't State game, I don't see how you couldn't want one. a dome would be something different to Ohio which is a good thing for this state with so many scared of change. Football is football no matter where it's played. A dome might cost more but it would make more money in the long run. More fans would go to a game in a dome than an stadium. A dome would excel the growth of this program a lot faster. But I agree that it probably won't happen because of the costs.

Creating a Zips Team Stop at the mall
bobbyake replied to bobbyake's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I'm sorry Can't state only teaches you how to make bread baskets and gingerman cookies. You go to a hippie school. Why would I take any advice from you. -
We shall see Saturday. Don't jump to conclusions yet. Youngblood, whata' last name to have.

I think it's a great idea. I don't think it would cost me more then a $100,000 loan and I could get $10,000 for start up cash. A Zips Team Shop in Chappil Hill Mall or Summit Mall. Any suggestions or advice?

Money is a factor. Well, what about money from the city, county, or state. I would vote for a sin tax in a heart beat if it was for the stadium.

Zen I agree. Building a small stadium is a bad idea and slows this programs growth. Why are people thinking small. Think big! If Akron can't fill a 35,000+ stadium, we all know the high school playoffs will. There's money to be made. Big concerts, lease it during the off-season to a pro sport like soccer. Remeber this, no one wants Akron to continue to be the Akron we're used to. We all would like to see Akron jump to a BCS conference. And we all would love to see Akron become a big time program. If Pitt and Louisville can do it, so can Akron.Aren't you guys tired of taking Akron to the National Championship in EA Sport's NCAA Football and only being able to seat 33,000. It barely gives a home field advantage.

You don't understand what it's like driving to the rubber bowl. It's in bfe. A campus in downtown Akron would easily double the attendance. It might also pull fans from Cleveland and other area towns because of the great location downtown. Having the stadium downtown and on campus will make the games better overall experience. And last years attendance was hurt by having the Can't State game on Thanksgiving. The weather was horrible. It was so bad that I had to leave at half-time. They should have made the Can't game the second home game of the year. The first will always get a good attendance so it's pointless to waste the Can't game as the first. But if Akron played Can't on there second home game, you would have seen an attendance of at least 20,000+. Wasn't it around 30,000 in 2003??

I take back the word sucks, but I'm unhappy with the Beacon's lack of media attention for the University of Akron.I'm tired of picking up the Beacon's sports section to see that another one of Marla Ridenour's articles on Columbus State is on the front page, while Akron's is somewhere hidden in the middle of the paper. The Beacon cares more about the front runners than the locals who support this community. They might as well write for the Steelers instead of the Browns, they seem to like feeding the front runners.Seriously, does ohio state deserve more media attention than akron in akron's own home town paper?

That's sad how they're giving up hope already.

25,000 is too small. With a stadium in downtown Akron, you would expect attendance to go up at least 40% or more for every game. If Akron can continue winning, 25,000 would be lower than the average amount Akron could bring in per game. Who cares if we sell out every game, selling out a 25,000 stadium is nothing to brag about. It has to be bigger. 35,000 at least. If the stadium is anything less than 35,000, you might as well forget about the Big East. There's not a chance. Make it 35,000 or more, I think 45,000 would be idea. and it will fill up eventually.25,000 limits this program to always being a Mid-major program. You can't grow into something big thinking small.

The biggest mistake of the day was talking about OSU on the front page of today's sports section.

Scout's ratings isn't overall talent. You get points for having a balance recruiting class. So if you filled every position with 1 or 2 star players, your looking good.

What about Firestone?? They don't have to worry about American shareholders.. And a stadium that only seats around 25,000 would be a waste. In 2004, Akron had 3 games with more than 25,000. Plus, you could kiss the Big East goodbye with a small stadium like that.

You'll see a whole new squad with rookies next year. Who are the fat girls your talking about? The cheerleaders are skinny. I can't say the same for the dance team. You have to be talking about the dance team. The dance team and the cheerleading squad are to different things so I don't see how you can call the cheerleaders fat. Either your talking about the dance team or your vision is going bad.

to bad first energy had to pay out 28 million to the U.S.. The Anthony J. Alexander Dome would sound nice. Does anyone know how to find out how much money people contribute to the U. This guy should be #1 on the list. Oeshlanger also gives out big $$$ to this school.
-
Firestone should be considered also. A dome will sell a lot easier than a stadium. Attendance will go up, and so will the football program. Akron would be too good to be true for the Big East. Seriously, we should hype this dome idea up. If the fans keep asking for it, it could actually be considered.
-
You may see the squad turn into an all girl squad in the future. No one likes the new coach is the rumor floating around. I'm an ex-cheerleader. Say what you want, I don't care, but I really enjoyed doing it. (Until the old coach quit and Akron got a new coach.)The outdoor uniforms should be worn inside the jar, I agree with you on that.

Why isn't Goodyear making it's name in Akron Sports????????? The name is no where to be seen at Akron basketball games. And where is GOJO, there are some big companies in Akron that the school needs to start making friends with. Even Smuckers should be considered. Goodyear Dome, in Akron, OH. I like the sound to that. A Dome that seats around 45,000. The Goodyear Dome.

So saying "tip of the iceberg" means LeSean McCoy isn't going to Akron?
-
A chance to play on national television is worth it.

so it is true, wow. I'd like to know why he made Akron his choice.

If we couldn't get Chris Wells...
