  1. This is to see who the true Akron fans are. I know a lot of you root for OSU but who do you put first? That's the big question.I'm talking about next year btw. I can't wait to watch Akron kick OSU's butt
  2. they didn't put a lot of teams on that list that could have went up there. Even though I'd hate to see Akron as an easy win for Penn State, look at Penn State's other non conference games. I honestly think they just only poked at a couple teams. But who knows, maybe they think that despite Penn State playing Temple and Youngstown, Akron is worthy enough to make up for it. I think Penn State has a really good shot at winning the Big Ten this year. It would be nice to see Akron do good against Penn State but I honestly would rather see us playing Illinios or Minnesota. NC State is going to be difficult one for us. Maybe we'll get lucky and beat Penn State and NC State. You never know, I did it on NCAA football for PS2.
  3. I'm going to have to call and see about prices then. If any other students want to go, let me know. Not sure if any of my friends want to go to this. But if they do I think I'll only get a couple so there's room for more. I have an Expedition so I can fit 7 other people besides myself.
  4. i hear ya. I hope Texas gives OSU a beating. Don't know if that will happen or not. Texas has a freshman quarterback. But OSU has a whole new defense so you never know. We can only hope OSU loses every game and all the OSU fans turn to Akron for a team to root for. That's the dream. Maybe someday Akron will be in Ohio what Pitt is in PA. Not everyone in PA roots for Penn State, so maybe there's hope for Akron.
  5. i don't see how we get unsaid respect here. I think they just failed to mention Penn State because they didn't want to take up more room and waste time listing every team they're refering to.. Penn State plays Youngstown State and Temple.
  6. Does anyone know the price students will have to pay to purchase tickets for the Penn State game???
  7. a fine for less than 2 an hour, they need to up that to 5 for students and 8 for alumni
  8. I might try that, the $5 could go to hamburger buns and other tailgating supplies. Almost pay for a 6 pack but we'll probably need more than that. Do they regulate any drinking going on in the parking lots? I hope not as long as students do it responsible.
  9. Students shouldn't have to pay for parking when we're already paying $135 a semester for a parking pass. How much should an Akron game cost. Well, if you went and saw the Army game last year, you'd want a refund for the total cost. For students, games only cost $5 (parking). I hope they still allow students to bring friends for $1. This is my first year I plan on tailgating so I'm a little excited. I could use any tailgating tips you guys could throw out there.
  10. Zippy has been a guy in a girl costume for awhile.
  11. You don't want to take your loyal boosters for granted though and step on their toes. Of the 214,000 people that live in Akron, and the 600,000 plus that live in the Greater Akron area, how many of those people prefer the Zips over OSU? I'm willing to bet you'll find more OSU fans. That is a challenge the Zips are faced with and need to address. I remember when I had a bunch of tickets to give out in 2004 at Wing Warehouse, I gave out a lot. I loved it because I wanted to bring people to the rubber bowl that never ever thought about a Zips football game as entertaining. You have to remember that a lot of people have tight budgets and aren't going to go out and spend $40 all together for their family to watch an Akron Zips game. I understand paying for quality but right now Akron hasn't achieved this mark. Sure we won the MAC championship and went to the Motor City Bowl. But we only went because we were lucky to be in a 3 way tie, plus we lost to Amry at home. Imagine if you paid to go watch the Army game last year, You'd be thinking 'crap on Akron' and never go to another game. Akron is not the same quality as Toledo. Toledo has given its fans so many games where they were ranked. Imagine going to watch your team at home while they're nationaly ranked. Toledo doesn't have to imagine this. That's why they pay extra money for tickets and still get 25,000 people. Let's be realistic here and understand Akron is still on the rise. We're not at the top yet. So why get ahead of ourselves when it could backfire with ugly results?I'm willing to bet they wont sell out half of the parking spaces at $525. (unless all you boosters and alumni are living in Hudson or Bath Township). If my bet is right, why not cut that price in half or more so you can sell out that area and make about the same or more money while more people are happier. The University should never take their die-hard loyal fans for granted and take advantage of them when they don't have that many to begin with.I'm only a student and go to the games for free, I'd never pay more than the cheapest parking price which I think is stupid because I have to pay $130 something for a parking pass each semester. So I guess I have no room to complain about you loyal Alumni paying 525 to park. But I understand that you guys are the backbone of the Zips and think it's wrong if the Univerisity of Akron tries to take advantage of that. Are students still allowed to bring a friend for $1???? I really hope they don't do away with that. I'm on a mission to turn OSU fans into Akron fans. The $1 tickets makes it easy to persuade a friend into coming to a game.
  12. what wont happen is making money by raising prices, it's economics. The demand is simply not strong enough. You have to be kidding me if you think the people around here are going to pay over $500 to park for a ZIPS game. Your denfending a bad idea. Akron has to stay cheap because it is the little guy in town competting with OSU. OSU dominates the Akron/Canton market. When you start getting above yourself saying, "we can charge more for such and such," people will turn their back to you because they don't feel paying outrageous amounts of money for University of Akron events is justified. Now what kind of games do you enjoy more? 7000 people or 33,000 people in a home game? It's like when I went to Cedar Point, I rarely saw anyone buying the pictures after the rides. It was $9. I think 80% of the riders would want to buy there pictures but no one wants to pay $9 for it. You're only going to sell to maybe 10% of that 80%. If they lowered the price to maybe $4, probably 45% of that 80% would buy a picture. They would make soo much more money if they made those pictures cheaper,. It's economics. You raise the price, demand goes down. You lower the price, demand goes up. Right now UAkron is struggling in the Akron/Canton market. Akron needs to create a demand. Everyone on this board is optimistic about this program and thinks this program is bigger than it is. The only way you can justify raising prices is offering more. Fireworks at the end of each game or for every touchdown???
  13. without looking it up, can you tell me who won the NIT? It's just the NIT, hopefully we'll make it to the NCAA tounament instead.
  14. I started a zipsnation group on facebook to help spread the word around campus about this wonderful site for Zips fans. not sure if this link will work but you can search groups for 'ZipsNation.org is my daily source for news'http://uakron.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2204843519
  15. it's nice to be considered a big dog for once. Hopefully they predicted right.
  16. no college bars? come on, your never too old to party. Drinks are on me.
  17. 10 wins, no way. Not a chance. We lost to Army at home last year. Gave them their first win. You know we're bound to lose one at home. The Rubber Bowl really doesn't give a whole lot of home field advantage. Remember when we lost that heart breaker to Miami with Frye. We would have won the MAC and went to a bowl game, but we lost to Miami at home. It's either going to be Miami or Bowling Green. We'll lose in the Glass Bowl just like everyone else does that plays Toledo in it. 8-4 is going to be the final record if everything goes normal.9-2-06 - @ Penn State L No chance9-9-06 - @ N.C. State L Small chance, don't get your hopes up though.9-16-06 - @ Central Michigan W Easy win after playing 2 good BCS schools9-23-06 - North Texas W This should be a win but you never know about Texas teams9-30-06 - @ Can't State W Akron's only game against a D1AA caliber team this year.10-7-06 - @ Cincinnati W ??? questionable. We could lose this one.10-21-06 - Miami L They have our number, remember 04 and the Army game in 0510-28-06 - @ Toledo L No one beats Toledo in the Glass Bowl.11-4-06 - Bowling Green W ??? questionable. They are a solid team.11-9-06 - Buffalo W I'm hoping they aren't the Ball State of 0511-16-06 - @ Ohio W Ohio is garbage. Easy win no matter where you play them.11-24-06 - Western Michigan W Should be a win any day.If you don't like my predictions, that's fine. They're just predictions. I don't think one prediction made last year was exact. And I don't think any predictions made this year are going to be exact either. But I'm not going to get my hopes up and expect a 10 win season because if you do that, you'll get dissappointed with an 8-4 record which is actually pretty good for the Zips. Best record in awhile. I'm setting my hopes on a bowl game. I could care less if they're 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, or 10-2, as long as they go to a bowl game. They were 6-5 last year in the season and it was a wonderful year just because we won the MAC Championship and went to a bowl game. That's where I lay my hopes.
  18. they might not have finished ranked but they have been ranked. They made the teens I believe.
  19. That's probably true, but a lot of the FRONT RUNNERS in the greater Cleveland and Akron/Canton area root for the Steelers.
  20. looks good but this doesn't help students out much. If I go to the Penn State game, I'm going to party my head off. House parties vs the Bars?? Probably the bars. You should include the college bar areas in all of your entries so it appeals to the students as well as alumni.
  21. yeah your right, add them to the list
  22. Hopefully a MAC school finishes ranked at the end of this year. Northern Ill, Miami, and Toledo are the only teams to have done this in the past 10 years I believe. I honestly don't think Akron has a shot at being ranked. Even if we beat NC State and finished 9-3.
  23. 5 big cities. Toledo is 4, Akron is 5. But Akron has Cleveland.
  24. This is what a typical Steelers fan does. Wherever they hear anything about the Browns, they have to say something to bash them. Browns fans do this about the Steelers too. it's instinct.
