Still, I'd be frustrated as well. I like his idea of giving tickets away to high school kids or to local organizations. Get em to a game and try to get em hooked.
-
sgm...you are taking this way, way too seriously. And yet you started a new thread complaining about your kid's school having an OSU day...
-
So don't have your kid wear OSU stuff? I'm sure that's all it is. I promise you that he'd probably see the same number of kids wearing OSU stuff that day as he would've had it not been named an official OSU day. Is this really THAT big of a deal? Schools do anything to get spirit up in a variety of ways. If only people were as fired up about the lack of funding in our school systems and the dysfunctional educational system, especially in Ohio, maybe things would change.
-
Maybe they shouldn't have turned away student fans in the first 3 games and tonight in the first place? But I guess 3/4 of one section wearing the same shirt is better than two full or almost full sections of Zips fans in various outfits...
-
I agree with everything you say except for this. The problem wasn't students showing up. The problem was that a TON of students were sitting up high in general admission because the didn't have "the shirt" and/or because it was "too late for them to sign-up"...I'll re-state what I have said time and time again. You NEVER, EVER deny student fans who want to sit in the STUDENT section. I don't give a damn what they're wearing as long as they're making a ton of noise and cheering on the Zips. The fact that open spaces weren't filled up on both sides because some students didn't have a shirt and were unable to still sign up for one is ridiculous and embarrassing. Somebody better step up and make a change, or else the student section will dwindle more and more over time.

Add one more VERY good...from this article:http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketbal...20061222_NV@AKR"Before the game, Akron coach Keith Dambrot signed a new five-year contract."
-
THE GOOD------------1) Dru Joyce - 23 points, many of them big. 2) Jeremiah Wood - I was surprised to see he only had 9/5...I thought he played great3) Quade Milum - 5/7, with 6 of those boards being offensive. I like him more and more every time I see him play. 4) The AK-Rowdies and crowd that did show up. Loud and proud...really made a difference in the 2nd half. 5) We are for real. Nevada is a heckuva team with a future lottery pick on their team. This is not a loss to be ashamed of. THE BAD------------1) Romeo Travis - I might get rocked for this one...but I really thought this was the game Romeo was going to step up. He's a good solid collegiate player, and nothing more...and his missed free throws were a killer. And what's with breaking the team rules so much? He's a senior and supposedly the best player...he needs to act like it. 2) Nick Dials - 1 of 4 from 3 point land, and most of them were good looks. 3) Nate Linhart starting over Jimmy Conyers. Conyers is bigger, more athletic, and has wayyyy more upside. Time to make the switch Coach D. THE UGLY-------------1) 14 of 23 from the free throw line...61%....the deciding factor in the game, period. 2) I hate to harp on this...I really do...but why were two of my friends, AKRON STUDENTS, turned away from sitting down low but two little kids were allowed to? Look..I'm not arguing that the kids shouldn't be down there, cuz I'm sure that was cool for them. But if you're going to deny STUDENTS from the STUDENT section, you better damn well not let two little kids sit down there. 3) And to follow that up...what a disappointment in seeing the other "student" section having zero effect on the game. I blame the students for not showing up more, the leaders of AK-Rowdy for continuing to push away Akron faithful because of their shirt rule and because "it's too late to sign up"...and I blame the athletic department for selling off tickets to fans who might as well have not even showed up. You never, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER push away your students trying to support the team...and yet it continues to happen. All in all, what a great game...two top teams duking it out...I'm VERY proud of the Zips.

Since the band will not be at this game, I think it is a damn good possibility to have the intro and pump up music played. God I hope so...I'm sorry, the music just isn't good "intro" music...a suggestion (if anyone actually sees this that has a say in it) - Right Here, Right Now - Fatboy Slim

Some random thoughts on what I want to see tomorrow:- The two lower student sections filled with STUDENTS. I'm losing more and more respect for Mack Rhoades (especially after he ignored...err...failed to respond to a professional, respectful email that I wrote to him about the student sections) but he can fix everything by letting the students do what they do best. Heck, if things aren't filled by 6:45, sell those tickets...but at least give the STUDENTS first dibs at the seats in the STUDENT section. - Speaking of these students, I want them to be out in full force and I want the two sections filled, with any student allowed down low regardless of whether or not they have "the shirt"...unless of course extra shirts are brought for those that don't have them. Please, do not turn away students that want to sit low and get crazy.- Get crazy? Hecks ya. Everyone in the lower sections needs to be loud and proud. Be the 6th man. Forget the cutesy cheers - good, solid, loud "Defense" and "Let's Go Zips" chants accompanied by the good ol "jump and make random noise" will do the trick. Loud and generic > creative and only half the people doing it. - Alumni sections that do more than occupy a seat. Look, I appreciate each and every one of you. I realize you pay good money for your seats and that I go to games for free. I also realize that I'm younger than the alumni fans and my body can take more standing, jumping, yelling. I understand all of that...I really do. But please understand that the Alumni could be the key for tomorrow. The students will make noise...count on it. If the Alumni can chime in and help, it will create an amazing home court advantage. Stand at key times (not necessarily all the time), clap, help chant the chants...help us help them!- Bring back the theatrics. As someone else stated, let's hear the Undertaker music played when the opposition is being introduced. Let's announce Romeo Travis last - he is the star, not Nate Linhart. Let's play some better-suited "pump-up" music for when our starters are introduced. Let's bring back the Zippy cartoon. Get the fans into it!- Jimmy Conyers starting over Nate Linhart. Conyers has improved little by little...Linhart seems to keep getting worse. Reward Jimmy for his improvement and add athleticism to the starting lineup...we'll need it. - A Zips win...damnit, we need this. This could be the spark for the rest of the year...cmon guys...GO ZIPS!

History shows that those seats don't sell over break? And how would this athletic department - in its first year - know/have that kind of information? I know they havent taken counts on the number of students sitting down low...so - whether its true or false - how would they know this information?Face it - they sold out the students to make an extra buck. If that's what they're telling you, and if that's what you want to believe, that's cool. And hey, if nobody is going to do anything, that's the way it's going to be. The Alumni seats weren't even close to being filling last night or for any other game...are their spots going to be put up for grabs too? I'll be there for Nevada...like I would've been. Hopefully others won't be scared off by this joke of an athletic department.
-
The first would be this...ADVERTISE!Has anyone even heard an ad for Fridays game? I know I havent...
-
Are they still seling those seats? Are they not selling them? Are we doing that list thing? What's the deal?P.S. I started an event for it...join it - http://uakron.facebook.com/event.php?eid=2220449345

Random thoughts on tonight...- So much for a boycott, eh? At least the point was (hopefully) driven home - those seats will not sell. It appeared as if students and other fans were ushered down to the lower seats shortly after the game began, and throughout the beginning of the 1st half. - The crowd was less than impressive overall...and not just students, alumni too. - This team still hasn't seemed to have "clicked" yet...which scares me with Nevada coming in Friday. They're going to have to play their best game of the season to have any shot at winning. - It's about time for Conyers to start over Linhart...is it just me or has Nate gotten worse? - Nick Goddard must be absolutely horrible at everything but shooting...otherwise I can't imagine him not at least getting 10 minutes a game. I'll trust Dambrot on this one...
-
I agree with Balki here, we're now being held hostage. It's not fair to the student leaders of this group to try to get this together in 2 1/2 days...it's not fair to the students who aren't receiving the emails about stuff and will want to go to the game...it's not fair for us to sign up for each and every game. Here's a novel idea for the Athletic Department...Want a full section? PROMOTE THE TEAM!!! I swear, even I forget sometimes that there is a game on certain days. Why am I not being reminded more often by the AD? And how about this idea...Want to ensure a full section? I can guarantee it with two things:A.) Get rid of the shirt requirement...make it back to going first come, first serve for Akron fansB.) 15 minutes before the game, invite fans paying general admission to fill any empty seatsWhy is this so freaking hard for them to understand??? We can debate this...but I say boycott = on!
-
I don't think we should be quiet. I think we should be even LOUDER than normal...just in the General Admission section. This will lead people (including alumni) to start asking why the great student section is sitting up top. This will lead Dambrot to question why the students aren't down low helping his team even more. Let the Athletic Department try to explain how they sold out their students.
-
FearThisAmerica,First of all, thank you for your work. It does not go unappreciated. I cannot believe they didn't even tell you about this...just horrible.I disagree with you about the boycott. Put yourself in the position of the AD right now. Tomorrow, you see all of your student section sitting up top...there are maybe 10-15 people in the lower sections. You know that Friday you have #25 Nevada coming in...a game that will be on TV on ESPN Full Court and in Nevada...it also has a great chance of showing up on SportsCenter's highlights. You think about all of that...and you think about how bad it will look to basically have no student section down low. Don't you think you might reconsider your plans???
-
I think someone is in denial of Akron still being a commuter campus...
-
Let's pick a section...and how can I find that facebook group? There are a couple facebook groups I know of.Represent UA women's basketballAkron ZIPS basketballI support ZIPS basketballZipsnation.org is my daily source for newsAk-RowdyThe last group has the most people in it, but the only admin never does anything anymore, so I can't get him to send out a message to over 3,000 people. There might be more groups, and I am trying to let them all know so they can spread the word. Ohhhhh I thought you started a specific group for the boycott...which we should definitely do! Could you make that?Oh, and I like the idea of using a different name...Zips Nation would be good.
-
Did anyone start a Facebook group? Somebody needs to and basically repost what RowdyZip said and then post a link here! Mine is acting up or else I would...
-
Yessss....cmon guys, lets send a message! You think maybe they'll reconsider when they realize they could bring in a Top 25 team and have nobody down low?
-
Let's pick a section...and how can I find that facebook group?
-
$20?HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAUmmm...don't they remember just 2-3 years ago when it was general admission? For free? And that it didnt fill up...ever...????
-
Horrible. What an embarrassment...
-
What I don't get is this...Who are the people who truly care about this team and want to come to games? a) The studentsB.) The alumniThe students sit low...the alumni that want to go have probably already purchased season tickets. Who does that leave? The average, general fan. So they are counting on these people filling up the student section? Really???
-
This is nothing at all against you...from your posts and everything on here, I can tell you're a Zips die-hard and had nothing to do with this. We do appreciate you trying to fight for us...and you have failed nobody. You can't help that the Athletic Department is doing this...
