  1. I suggested finding someone realllllly scrawny, putting fake zits all over his face, have him in an OU uniform, and just have him wildy dribble around during warmups throwing up off balance 30 footers...lol
  2. I think at this point everyone just waits for me to start the post game thread! jkRandom thoughts from the upper level general admission seats...- Horrendous crowd...didn't even seem half full. Kind of depressing after the showing for Ball State. - Big game from Romeo with 23/6. That's the kind of game I expect for him to be the norm. - J. Wood solid once again - 12/6, very active around the basket. - Rough night shooting for both Dru and Ced...5 of 20 combined. - Dials has been playing much better as of late - 13 points tonight, 3 for 5 from three- 18-28 at the line...free throw shooting is what will be the eventual downfall of this team. - What was up with a little kid being selected to shoot the half court shot at halftime? First of all, what's he going to do with two airline tickets? Second of all, can we at least pick someone who can at least get the ball to the rim? It just seemed pointless. Let the kid shoot some free throws for a shirt or something and let a student shoot the half courter. - How strong has the MAC East been lately? It's going to be a heck of a finish. - Ugly win, but still a win...we'll have to play better than that on Saturday, that's for sure.
  3. Toledo has to play both Can't and Akron still...how do you concede they'll get the #1?
  4. I think it's a combination of things. I do think the students make excuse after excuse for not coming. And I also agree that once the students come, they want to come again. But I've said it before and I'll say it again, the selling of the student section seats against Nevada was a monumental mistake by the AD. We finally got a top team in our building...the students came out...and the students were told they couldn't sit in the student section. And that made a lot of people bitter. I know some more casual fans who haven't been to another game because of the statement made loud and clear by the AD - a little extra cash was more important to them than giving their students a chance to have their own student section in the biggest game of the year. A few (including me) wrote to the AD wondering why it was done...and while some AK-Rowdies leaders and assistants from the athletic department contacting me/them to hear our concerns (and it was greatly appreciated), nobody heard a peep from Mack. Not an e-mail response, not even a simple "Thank you for your thoughts...we'll take them into consideration"...not a single peep. This isn't Duke...it isn't North Carolina...it isn't Arizona or Maryland...we're not an elite team that can pick and choose their student fan base. We're Akron, a team/school on the rise that now, more than ever, needs to show the students how important they are to the growth process. The mistakes - selling off the Nevada game, Mack ignoring students - are done and can't be taken back. But it's never too late to start reaching out to the students and fixing the mistakes made...reaching out and showing them how important they really are to you and the program. I have a feeling the Akron Zips are finally going to do it this year and win the MAC...make it to the dance. It'd be a damn shame if no more than 200 students were there to support them on the way.
  5. Hmmm..seems like I'm starting these quite a bit lately haha. Ah well...random thoughts of mine, everyone chime in - Great defense today...I absolutely love that about this team.- Dru with another great game...16 points, 5 assists, 4 for 7 from 3 point land...I've said it before and I'll say it again - he will (by far) be the one we miss the most next season. - Wood with 12/7, Travis with 9/4. Solid game from both, but once again I came away from the game far more impressed with Wood. - 11 from Cedric with excellent defense. I really wish he started with Dials off the bench. - 4 points, 3 rebounds, great defense from Linhart. R-O-L-E P-L-A-Y-E-R. Which is fine, every team needs good role guys. But isn't it time to nix the M.V.P. chant? - Not much PT for McKnight or Conyers...not sure I like that in a game like this. - Great attendance in general admission...maybe the city is starting to notice! And finally...Sat up top today...got an interesting perspective of the game. A few notes for those who sit down low:1) The special cheers either have to be done by everybody or they have to go. What I used to think everyone understood I now know is inaudible to anyone not in the student section. All it sounds like from up top is random gibberish. 2) As I said before, the M.V.P. chant hassss to go. It just makes us look like we don't know what we're talking about, chanting M.V.P. for a role player. 3) Loved the "Put Goddard in" chant. Overall, not bad from those that were there, but again...very little student presence today, with half-filled lower sections. It's too late this season, but we reallllllly need to look into everything and figure out just why the students stay away game after game.
  6. Anyone who has hung around Charlie knows that he doesnt smile much. so dont take offense to that. Did your friends ask him directly why he didnt take a picture with them? maybe if you had he would have taken another one. Charlie's done alot while at akron from going to childrens hospital during christmas time to spend time with the kids, going to different charity events and signing autographs for kids an all other fans. i think maybe your incident was an isolated one, because he just doesnt seem like the guy who would do somthing like that to be an a$$. I was standing a few feet away...the guy was being a dick, plain and simple. It was quite obvious to everyone nearby. Now like I said...could have been an isolated incident. But it's hard for me to root for the guy after seeing that.
  7. I've seen some pretty shady things done by C Frye in person...and no, not a fan. Say what you will about his talent as a QB, but Charlie's a great guy. What in the world makes you think otherwise I have no idea. Maybe you'd like to share. Two years ago we were tailgating at a Zips game in the afternoon...not many people at all outside the stadium. Charlie Frye shows up and is just kind of chilling in a lawn chair. After some time, two of my buddies decide to go ask Frye to take a picture with them. They ask nicely and he kind of grudgingly mumbles an "OK". My buddy asks a girl sitting with Frye (we think his sister) to take the picture. She says OK and takes the camera. They set up the shot (Charlie basically refusing to smile), and right before she's about to click the button, she points it down at their crotches and takes the picture. She laughs at my stunned/confused friends, as does Charlie...she hands them the camera and her and Frye both sit back down. One of my friends kind of asks "what the hell?", only to basically be ignored. I mean hey...I've never hung out with the guy, so maybe (hopefully) this was an isolated incident. But for him to pull that crap on some Akron fans/students was classless as can be. Like I said, he might very well be a great guy...but I have trouble rooting the guy on ever since I witnessed that crap two years ago.
  8. I've seen some pretty shady things done by C Frye in person...and no, not a fan.
  9. Because Charlie did soooooo much more in college. I find it hilarious that he's knocking Smith's performance in a national title game when he never even led the team to a conference title. Frye is a classless joke of a QB...I'm not sure the Browns need Smith, but they need to find a QB who can start in the league...Frye most certainly cannot.
  10. That is still last week's poll. Notice that UCLA hasn't dropped from #3 on the poll you linked, which they certainly will do.
  11. Joe Lunardi has these as his proposed matchups:1. Southern Illinois (16-5, InsideRPI No. 10) at Butler (17-2, InsideRPI No. 20)2. Northern Iowa (15-5, InsideRPI No. 48) at Nevada (17-2, InsideRPI No. 31)3. Drexel (15-4, InsideRPI No. 45) at Creighton (13-7, InsideRPI No. 34)4. Appalachian State (15-5, InsideRPI No. 43) at Missouri State (14-7, InsideRPI No. 42)5. Bradley (15-7, InsideRPI No. 35) at VCU (17-3, InsideRPI No. 59)6. Holy Cross (15-6, InsideRPI No. 66) at Hofstra (15-5, InsideRPI No. 60)7. Utah State (15-5, InsideRPI No. 64) at Wichita State (12-9, InsideRPI No. 78)8. Ohio (13-6, No. 73) at New Mexico State (16-4, InsideRPI No. 80)9. Evansville (12-9, No. 83) at Long Beach (13-5, InsideRPI No. 93)10. Old Dominion (13-7, InsideRPI No. 90) at Indiana State (11-8, InsideRPI No. 95)11. Winthrop (15-4, InsideRPI No. 87) at George Mason (11-8, InsideRPI No. 110)12. Akron (14-4, InsideRPI No. 107) at Fresno State (14-5, InsideRPI No. 115)Of course we get a home game...not sure why he has us at FS
  12. I'm not sure it really had anything to do with the sides...this game just wasn't one that was easy to get into. I was thrilled that the Zips won, but honestly - was I the only one that actually got bored at times during the game? Both sides gout loud when it mattered - that's all I ask.
  13. My thoughts...- Great game from Wood. 8 points, 17 boards (7 offensive)...just a huge game inside- Also a big game from Romeo. I think making him ride the bench a few games really woke up him. - Dials FINALLY gets hot...very good game for ND- Another game of me not being overly impressed with Nate Linhart. His out of control floaters get old, and he doesn't do much offensively. He does rebound well and plays excellent defense - he'd be a great role player off the bench. - Conyers looked good with 6 points/4 boards...I still think he's got more upside than Linhart in the 3 spot. - You could tell Quade was trying to get on top plays lolSolid game all around. I wish it would've been a bit more exciting to catch the attention of fans around the nation, but I'll still take an ass whopping over a MAC opponent any day.
  14. There's a gametracker AND a live video feed
  15. The Rowdy is good...sometimes. I wasn't a fan of the stuff printed in there concerning one of the Can't players...either Smith or Gates I think, dealing with his family...anyone who read it knows what I'm talking about. I just thought that one went a little far. But other than that, it's not bad. I do agree that the simple defense chants and others like it are more effective though.
  16. Funny how they don't mention the extension he just signed
  17. Oh man...that's where this thread is heading? lol
  18. All they do is stalk the players and bash the other team? Uhhhh...a student section's job is to A) Be loud, and B.) Get into the opponents' heads.Check out this article about the best student section in America, the Cameron Crazies:http://espn.go.com/page2/s/cameron/hits.html(Also notice #10...looks like the O-Zone copied from the Crazies)Do you think Duke or Duke's players are embarrassed by them? It seems to me that you are reallllly stretching in trying to find reasons to bash the AK-Rowdies. As for other groups, that's fine. If you or others don't like how the Rowdies are run, I think it's sweet if you start your own student group. But have some class and do it without bashing the Rowdies, or any other Akron student group. We're all on the same side here, remember?
  19. Haha I'm an ignorant little prick now? Well damn...I better try to find an athlete to date soon so I can be cool again!
  20. Dude, do you even read my posts? I'm not the leader of the Rowdies, where did I say that? I'm just throwing my two cents in. I don't owe Holly an apology for anything. Why do I, and why does anyone else? I never attacked her, I never said anything bad about her, and I wasn't the one who denied her lower seating. All that I've said was that she's a great fan, that she is pretty, and that I thought she could have gone about voicing her opinion better than she did. And again, i was just commenting from an outside perspective. Maybe I don't know everything that went down, but based on what I do know, I don't think anyone owes her an apology. While I don't condone any remarks that may have been deleted that were directed towards her, she did fire the first shots. She started the "Anti-Rowdies", she called them an "embarrassment" to the University. If you're going to attack fellow students who did nothing to you and had nothing to do with the decisions made about who sits where, you sure as heck better not complain when some shots are fired back in your direction. She's probably a very nice girl and I think it's cool that you're defending her, I really do. She sounds like a die-hard Zips fan and I am all for showing love to the Zips. And I have no problems with her voicing her opinion on changes that need to be made...I did it earlier in the season. But starting an "Anti-Rowdies" group and calling fellow students/fans who did nothing to her an "embarrassment" to the University was a horrible way to go with things. If the athletic department listens, and she works for the department...why not just go to them with her issues?
  21. 1) Why don't you respond to the things I wrote in my last post? 2) How did anyone alienate or "shut out" those girls? As I said before, didn't they have an opportunity to sign up to join the group? And seeing as how they worked in the ticket office, they knew that the lower sections would be reserved for only those who signed up to be AK-Rowdies, correct? And didn't they attack the AK-Rowdies before anyone attacked them? 3) Who cares that the athletes joined their group? As pointed out by many, they probably just clicked accept without looking at what it was. Dru Joyce is constantly interacting with the student sections...I'd be shocked to find out that he really was against them. 4) Are you dating any of those athletes? Because dude, you would be soooooo cool if you did. I mean, you would sooo have a chance at Prom King!
  22. 1) How do you know she has more love and dedication to athletics than any of the Rowdies? Because she worked for athletics that makes her a bigger fan than the rest of us? Give me a break. I'm sure she loves the Zips, and I think that's great. But I've also been supporting these teams for 7 years as a die hard fan...just because I don't get a paycheck from them doesn't mean I don't love the Zips just as much if not more? 2) Who made fun of her appearance? Please, quote the person...I don't see it. 3) I have no problem with her starting her own student group. But wouldn't it be better to not start a war against fellow fans/students and come up with a different name for her group? 4) She is a pretty girl, I'd def. agree with that...but out of everyone's league? C'mon dude...first of all, I've yet to meet a girl in Akron that I felt was out of my league...and second, how can you say something like that without even knowing a thing about anyone here? Just a pretty stupid comment to finish your post on. 1) Because I've talked to her on a number of occasions and she's been very helpful in everything I've asked her to do, she's close with many of the athletes, she attends sporting events like it's her job, and she helps make the football office run. Have you attended as many athletic events as her over the past few years? Probably not. Are you close with as many athletes as her? Probably not. Do you make the football office run? No you don't. I'm glad you're a big fan but the fact of the matter is making stupid ass comments about her only being a casual fan compared to some of you "the alpha fans" is just stupid and ignorant.2) The comments about her appearance have been deleted, thanks to the mods, except for this classic by hoopla " from her business hanging out, did you mean from the top, bottom or the sides?" Shows the childishness of many in your group who come on here and talk about a girl "hanging out on the sides" when she's no where close to being fat. Like I said, she's a knockout and idiotic comments like that are what skew girls' self images.3) When a bunch of dedicated students who love the Zips just as much if not more than you get shut out of a student group, a student group that I'm sorry but sucks to begin with, then yeah I'd say that's grounds for starting your own group.4) Dude she could have athletes. None of the "rowdies" would have a prayer. 1) I didn't say she was a casual fan. Please, quote me in saying that. Again, you put words into people's mouths to try to support your argument. I said it was silly to claim that WE weren't as big of a fan as she was. And FYI, I've been to all but about 6 or 7 basketball and football games in 7 years...I've attended many road games, including Central Michigan, Ohio State, and BG...I went to Detroit for both the MAC Title game and Bowl game...I've been to every MAC tournament game the Zips have played in 7 years. So yes, I'd match my attendance at athletic events to most people. Finally, what does her being friends with the players have to do with being a fan? My dad had been a die-hard Indians fan for 50 years...he doesn't hang out with Grady Sizemore though...so by your logic, that would mean he's not a die hard fan? 2) I didn't happen to see any remarks about her appearance, but if there were some I agree that it was wrong to say. But again...why generalize? Because one person said something, that means everyone is childish? 3) Define "shut out". I believe they had an opportunity to sign up to join the group, did they not? And seeing as how they worked in the ticket office, they knew that the lower sections would be reserved for only those who signed up to be AK-Rowdies, correct? Heck, according to the wall on the group's page, the girl that started the "Anti-Rowdies" didn't want to join. And that's fine...but that was her choice, she wasn't "shut out".4) Your 4th comment shows how idiotic you truly are. Do you think Akron is like Friday Night Lights or something? Jesus dude, time for a reality check. "She could have athletes"...well that's great. Maybe it's a big deal at USC or Ohio State or Florida to be able to date the top athletes, but who cares at a mid-major school? I love our players, I really do...but how are they any different from the rest of UA students? None of them (bball players) are going pro, none of them have any endorsements coming. When their four years are up, they'll go into the career of their choice just like the rest of us and start normal lives, just like the rest of us. If you want to treat them like Gods, that's cool...but to the rest of us, they're guys just like us who happen to be good at basketball. "She could have athletes"...that just made my day, thanks lol.As for her being out of my league, again...she's a very pretty girl, but personally, I don't see any Akron girl of my league, her included. And I'm not even on the team!
  23. 1) How do you know she has more love and dedication to athletics than any of the Rowdies? Because she worked for athletics that makes her a bigger fan than the rest of us? Give me a break. I'm sure she loves the Zips, and I think that's great. But I've also been supporting these teams for 7 years as a die hard fan...just because I don't get a paycheck from them doesn't mean I don't love the Zips just as much if not more? 2) Who made fun of her appearance?
