One of the ZipNationeers who is excited about this recruit might want to organize a group of our number to attend his first home game of the 2006/07 season to show up en masse in their Zip attire. Wouldn't this impress?

See TAMU article on the loss of their coach to Akron.Best thing in Kest's resume - as coach of the Islanders they defeated our arch rival Can't State. Oops, I shouldn't be saying that. My eldest daughter played for Bob Lindsay at Can't State as a walk-on.

Then Shawn Anderson could be a younger brother? The Owens recruit (Brandon Anderson) probably is not going to make it under JB's regime and he can transfer to a 1AA school without sitting out - isn't the the deal on transfers? And, to boot, if Shawn is a younger brother - doesn't this make sense?

Maybe this is the answer? From California University of PA web site:2006 Cal U. Football Recruiting ClassName Pos. Ht. Wt. Hometown/High School/Last SchoolShawn Anderson DB 6-1 195 Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills

Take the "Mid" out of "Mid-Major" so says Coach Donovan of the Florida Gators.Obviously he is being flattering George Mason (perhaps to get a pyschological edge) But he is also setting up the plausibilty of George Mason getting to the championship game. Now that a Mid-Major (MMs) has reached the Final Four and it is increasingly common for MMs to reach the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight, this MM v. Major distinction is sort of like the NFL/AFL thing in the years following the Jets win in the Super Bowl. The NFL die-hards said the Jets' win was a fluke. That did not last long.If there is a distinction it is the quality of schedule played in getting to the tournament. MMs who want to get into the tournament and be competitive must play tough schedules and win.The next move for Dambrot and the Zips is to eliminate Denison, Mt. Union, Wooster et al from the schedule and only play teams that could possibly beat them. This is a necessary evolvement in the schedule even it means playing more games on the road than Dambrot would like. When we see the Zips make this move, then we will know that they are serious about competing for a national championship. The Zips soccer schedule is chocked full of national championship caliber teams. Result: the Zips are a realistic candidate to win Akron's first ever national championship.

This is absolutely one of the most disgusting posts I have ever seen on ZipsNation. As the father of three daughters, one a doctor (who went through the BS/MD accelerated progrm (a very arduous task), one a lawyer (a prosecutor - which obviously takes a tough person) and a major in the United States Air Force Reserve. All three were superb athletes with the major walking on at Can't State and making the basketball team. Is that a tough thing to do?Adam Morrison crying has nothing at all to do with women/girls. It has everything to do with Adam Morrison and what he feels is appropriate to the occasion. A more appropriate analysis would be along the lines that Adam Morrision is, perhaps, a pampered person (which happens to males and females, alike) who has a difficult time dealing with adversity when it comes along. Crying is a very human (not male/female) way of dealing with the tough things/disappointments that come along.May I remind GP1 that "Jesus, wept." What is this writer trying to say: "real men don't cry." And, if they do they are women/girls. Absolute balderdash! Many times the purveyors of this kind of macho stuff are very weak individuals who are striking out against their own insecurities. I hope that the "real men" out there in ZipsNations land will join me in chastising GP1. Many of us are not insecure and do not need to beat up on women! GP1 has made a mistake that many of the "macho" men make. He thinks he is in a safe haven. Most of us ZipsNationeers, if not all, are males. But most of the most are human beings who can understand a person crying and would never make the wild connection that GP1 makes!Shame on GP1!

Totally agree with Hilltopper. He is a project in terms of motivation. He does have the skills. Had he implemented them, Lancaster would be in the Division I championship game today against Canton McKinley.

Zip recruit McKinght will be TV 3/24/05
ZipAnalyst replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Information on tonight's tape-delay did not come from ONN online but from watching its general programming last night. They did not even announce the starting time of the first tape-delayed game. The only clue was to backtrack from 11:30 p.m. (they did say at the end of the second tape-delayed game that a highlights show would begin at 11:30).That the best I can do with info for now. -
ONN is reporting that it will air the two Division I semi-final boys championship games Friday, March 24th on a tape-dalay basis with the last game ending at 11:30 p.m.Zip fans can get their first look at Zip recruit Chris McKnight on Friday evening.Saturday's championship round will be broadcast live beginning with Division IV at 10:45 a.m.

Belated Watchers View: MAC Tourney Notes

Analysis, analysis, analysis! Passion is for cheering on your team at the game. Unbridled passion has no place in this forum or at court side.ZIPSNATION.ORG will catch the attention of those who make decisions on the future operations, recruiting and scheduling for the BB team, if reason is the predominant characteristic in thiis forum.Otherwise, it will be dismissed as the haven for "know nothings" who are ardent "know nothings!"It is up to those who participate in ZIPSNATION.ORG to made it credible and "value added" fan input.A number of the posts on this topic are clearly headed in the direction I want ZIPSNATION.ORG to going in. -

Chris McKnight In Final Four
ZipAnalyst replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Let us hope that Lancaster makes it to the finals. If Lancaster does make it, those us who have Time-Warner cable will be able to see the finals Ohio News Network (ONN) next Saturday.Seeing McKnight in action will equip us to assess how much he, as a freshman, will be able to help alleviate the Zip "big man" and "inside quickness" problem that haunted the Zips this year. -
KD has said repeatedly that a great program requires an effective In/Out game with movement added in.There is no defense to the double whammy offense with lots of motion mixed in.But it does take the right pieces to make this plan work.KD clearly understands how to plan and he also knows that he needs to recruit the correct combination of players. If Akron University empowers KD with recruiting resources, he will get the job done by building a team competing for a national championship within five years. In two to three years the JAR will be bursting at the seams and then there will be a rush to build a facility to catch up with the explosive growth of the on-court product. To be at that level, all the players will have to be, and indeed, will be playing big!
-
Akron needs a player "who plays like a big man."Wes Unseld was on 6'7" but he played big.Charles Barkley was only 6'4" but played big.Russell Holmes (during the Huggins era at Akron) was a miniscule 6'3" but played big.The Cleveland Cavaliers have a 7'3" man who plays little.I repeat, it is not as much the height as it is how the player plays the position.

63. Louisville 18 11 .5733 44 .566164. Akron 20 8 .4940 173 .5658But in a real game Louisville mashed us. Does RPI mean anything?
-
What a pessimist! Don't you remember KD saying this team would be competitive with California, Louisville and Nevada? Undoubtedly he thinks we can win the NCAA!!!
-
McKnight has a big game as Lancaster defeats Olentangy in Ohio Athletic Ass'n tournament game. See report of game here.

K ENT-AKRON...Lebron will be in the house!
ZipAnalyst replied to AntonioGates's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Am really upset with Antonio Gates. He writes about Lebron being at the Zips/Can't State game. Big deal? No! The big deal is that Antonio was at the Can't/Miami game (as pointed out by the TV play-by-play man) this past weekend and Antonio did not give his ZipsNation pals the heads up beforehand.Had we known Antonio, we would have sent a delegation of Antonio Gates fans.Antonio, you are so modest! -
This is tinkering. Even if the plan was adopted and even if it worked, so what?IF the Zips win the MAC tournament it will be with "who brung them to the dance." So KD needs to work with what he has to make them good enough to win the tournament. Do our cameo in the big dance - and - then begin preparing in earnest for 2006/07.Early in the season next year is the time to experiment with some new players (which, hopefully, will include a JUCO big man) and carry-over players who have gotten better in the off season.

The talent not there yet.Travis, Joyce, Dials et al are overachievers. When the Zips play Louisville (a mediocre big-time team) and Nevada (a top-flight Mid-Major) it shows. Fans get all excited when the Zips win in a so-so league (MAC).KD is winning with smoke and mirrors. It remains to be seen whether or not KD can recruit effectively. KD is a value-added coach (Hipsher was not). But you still need talent. He must get the talent! If the in-fighting is to be believed (and it a big IF), its among the very ordinary.
-
The Zips, in order to move up next year, must get a first-rate center. I think the source will have to be a JUCO. It is too much of a transition for high schoolers to come in and make an impact in the freshman year.

Akron should try to bring a big time opponent to the Browns stadium as its season opening game. They need to get the NCAA to allow them to treat it as a home game (may not be necessary; could be defined that way already) for attendance purposes and promote it to the hilt with a campaign throughout northeast Ohio. It should make a major effort to get a throng of students (a la the MAC Championship game and the Motor City Bowl). This is the sort of project Waddell should be working on. It will help in recruiting and it will be a signal that maybe, in a few years, Akron could be moving on to the Big East.Northeast Ohio can and will support one high-quality 1-A team but only one. Who is going to get there first? Akron or Can't? Akron has the edge now but scheduling 1-AA teams sends the wrong message. The Akron administration must set its goal high and go all out to make it a reality. Over the next five years we shall see what this administration can do!
