Stadium Update - A Little Info
Kangaroo Craig replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
That's too small for D1A. Please give us at least as many hard seats as the Rubber Bowl. If not, then they need to leave provision for later expansion. -
I hate that mid-major tag. I wish they would just do away with it. Every time I hear it I think about how our teams get screwed out of post season play. Wishful thinking I guess. This was the first story that I have ever seen that gives credit to players coming from non BCS programs by saying that they may actually be better than others from BCS schools because they are surrounded by lesser talent. Usually what we here instead is that player from BCS school is better because they play against tougher competition. Those same people have never bothered to point out that those players are also surrounded by a superstar at every position. That's why so many Heisman trophy winners turn out to be busts in the NFL because their not used to playing for bad teams. As a result their weeknesses are revealed.

Here's part two of the Charlie Frye story from ClevelandBrowns.com Enjoy http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news_room/n...rts/4177.0.html
-
They obviously didn't ask Bob Pruett of Marshall for his opinion. He coached against all of those QB's and he thinks that Frye is not only in the same class with those other MAC QB's, but that he is the top QB in this years class. I wonder if those same dumbasses from ESPN were watching the Akron Marshall game that they televised last November. I like Alex Smith, but I have a feeling that Aaron Rogers is more of a product of the system than a great player. Just a gut feel. Kyle Boller was a product of that same system and he has struggled mightily in the NFL. I going to predict right now that Rogers will be a bust just like Leaf, Smith, and Couch.

If you would have posted this a year ago would have agreed with you. I am very optimistic about the new direction of the Cleveland Browns. For the first time since their return to the NFL they have a good GM who has a provern track record of drafting players. They also have a head coach who has many years of NFL experience and who has worked for the likes of Parcells and Belicheck. He is also a humble man who does not have an over inflated ego. Frye will be in good hands if he ends up there. Botch Davis and Carmen Policy are gone. They were the ultra egos that nearly succeeded in destroying that franchise.

Here is a link to another story about Charlie Frye. It is from the Cleveland Browns web site and is the first of a two part series. If he is still available at #34 and Cleveland doesn't pull the trigger on him then they are total morons. Frye is the best QB in the draft. If he was coming out of a BCS school he would be the #1 choice hands down! If Green bay doesn't choose him at #24 then someone is going to get an absolute steal in round two! http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news_room/n...rts/4171.0.html

Interesting that he is motivated by fear of failure. People who are wired that way are usually very successful because they are generally tireless workers who are very passionate about their carreers. It's also interesting to see that he is applying what he has learned in sales towards recruiting. If the first year is any indication of things to follow then this program is on the verge of busting out. What a great coach! I am so happy that he is here.

Your right Zippy 989. Playing Miami and BG 2 out of 3 weeks on the road is going to be tough. Most likely it will define their season. At least as far as the conference is concerned. Hopefully they come out of the Miami game unscathed. Even if they lose they need to make it close so that way they'll have some momentum when Army visits the bowl.
-
I do agree with you Zippy 989 playing MU and BG on the road two out of three weeks is going to be very difficult and may cause our guys to get beat up pretty good. Hopefully we come out of Miami unscathed. At least that way we'll be ready for Army. It could be one of those seasons where one or two early games will set the tone for the entire year. I trust that J. D. will have them ready to play. Go Zips!

That 1:00 Wednesday game has got to be a misprint. If that is right then Mike Thomas, Laing Kennedy, and ESPN are all on freaking crack!
-
If we're out of the race in November, then the Can't game is not going to draw well. However, if the Zips are in the thick of things then both Can't and OU should be good crowds. I am not concerned about Army. Unless they have all of the sudden gotten very good, I would not consider them to be part of the meat grinder. Army is a CUSA bottom feeder. Miami and BG along with NIU and Purdue will all be difficult games. NIU might be the only slightly winable game amongst those. The only reason why I say that is because it is at the bowl where the Zips always play tough. I like our chances at home against Central, Army, Can't and Ohio. I also like our chances on the road against Middle, Buffalo, and Ball State. That looks like seven winable games to me. If they stub there toes in one like they did last year against Middle, then 6-5 looks pretty good. Right your checks boys! Its time to purchase season tickets again! Go Zips!

"Middle Atlantic Conference" Just another example of how the MAC gets no respect. What a moron. The guy is a sports writer in Eastern PA and does not know anything about a conference that is one of the few Division 1A football conferences in the nation. With the exception of basketball, St. Johns is a much smaller school than we are.

Both quick and strong. I think he'll be a nice addition. I wonder why he didn't get any offers. Does he have academic issues?

How many names can we come up with for the ABJ?

How do you think the zips will do?
Kangaroo Craig replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm going to predict 7-4. I think the passing game is going to be better than what most people will predict. I too agree that the defense will continue to improve. The talent there continues to improve as well as the attitude. -
I just opened a letter from Coach J. D. Brookhart asking me to renew my season tickets. I most definitely will. Included in the letter were four reserved seats worth a total of $40 to the upcoming Aeros game versus the Binghamton Mets on Sunday, April 10th. I thought that was a very nice gesture on the University's part to do that. To those of you who are season ticket holders: Are you planning on going to the Baseball game two weeks from Sunday?
-
The local media doesn't help matters either. Open the Reakin Urinal and you would think it was a Columbus paper. Same thing goes for the Plain Dealer and all of the local TV news and AM sports talk. If you walk into any local sporting goods store, you'll see it loaded with Suckeye gear, but little or no Zips or Can't stuff. I keep hoping and praying that if the Zips start a long winning tradition that they will be able to overcome all or at least some of that, but I have to admit that I have my doubts if it will ever change. Today I opened the Reakin and was looking at the pairings for the womens NCAA. I noticed that the words "Ohio State" were in bold letters, but another school from Ohio, Bowling Green, did not get that recognition. This Suckeye bias needs to cease!

I think it is possible. I don't believe that the Browns are very high on Luke McCown. Josh Harris was a cast off from Baltimore's practice squad. We all know that Baltimore wasn't very deep at that position to begin with, so getting booted from them doesn't say much. Harris was picked up by Davis last year as an insurance policy when all of Cleveland's quarterbacks were dropping like flies. Although Harris was a good quarterback in college, he is not the prototype NFL quarterback that Frye is. Dilfer is nothing more than a stop gap measure. Browns GM Phil Savage has already said that he will look to bolster that position further either through the draft or free agency. Since there is not "A quarterback of the future" left in free agency, that leaves the draft. I am not convinced though that Frye will be available at the top of the second round. I know what all the pundits are saying, but they are not running the NFL draft. I still think it is very possible that Frye will not last until the second round. If he doesn't get picked up by Green Bay late in the first round, then it opens the door for the Browns. The last "Local Boy" quarterback in Cleveland practically became a folk hero and he was from Boardman, OH played his college ball at Miami. Fla. Cleveland would be a great fit for #5.

Its frustrating, but I do not believe it is the reason why people don't come to games. Attendance is up this year in both football and basketball due to the mild success. The problem that both Akron and Can't have with attendence is that the average fan (ie: Fan without a college degree) roots for Ohio State and unfortunately many MAC school grads also root for that pile of shit down south. This school just needs to keep making positive steps forward. If that happens, the rest will take care of itself.

New Exchange St. Residence Hall
Kangaroo Craig replied to UA Fan's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Interesting Story. These dorms sound very upscale in terms of dorms. I wonder what sort of rent they will be asking for. I also wonder if the location of these new dorms will have any bearing on the location of the new football stadium. A stadium in close proximity to campus housing is very convenient for students. It gives the students little excuse not to support the Zips on a Saturday night when they are not likely studying. -
HEY ZIP FANS TOO FAR AWAY TO LISTEN

I walked up to the ticket counter just three hours before the game and was able to get lower reserved, center court, third row up seats. If this town really cared, then that would never be possible. If we were playing the Suckeyes, those losers would be knocking the doors down to get in. Winning breeds fan support. I suspect next year that the JAR will be filled on most nights. Great win for the Zips tonight.

You hit the nail right on the head Z-Pouch. Layups and lane shots have hurt this team all year long. It seems that even when the zips are draining three pointers all over the place, they are still missing the easy bunnies. I have to think that Wood's presence is sorely missed in the middle. Maybe we get more of the bunnies if he is in the line up. Oh well, can't worry about that. He won't be back until next year. As for Buffalo, we've proven that we can beat them at home and I like our chances against any MAC team on a neutral court, although Can't scares me the most. They just seem to have our number. Here's how I see our path to the finals: EMU, WMU, Buffalo, Can't.
-
Us fans were very loud at the end and I think that helped the team. The only negative is that the Zips missed a lot of easy layups in situations where they were not fouled. If they make half of those, they put up 10 more points. Other than that they played well. Great D, lots of hustle. Time to pay back Can't for the only home loss they gave us a few weeeks ago. Go Zips!
