Toledo is the dirtiest program in the MAC

Fact: Willie Jackson former Cleve Hts &Missouri transfer commits last Dec to Akron, expecting KD to pay off $18k car payment (present fr Missouri). KD says no way, goes to Kent & Senderoff also passes. Kowalczyk quickly agrees.

Also look up article fr Toledo Blade about Athletic Dept holding money from parking & having lose cash available not on the books.

Yes Toledo is a dirty program!! Every coach in MAC knows it.

NCAA & FBI just have bigger fish to catch.

    Wow.

I don't know. I heard a bit too much of Groce blaming players for bad attitudes that just played great for 30 minutes against a #3 seed with more experience and length.

He absolutely should hold the players accountable. He's trying to build a culture. But he ultimately accepted full responsibility.

I really, really dislike Ball State, and I will dislike them even more if they let PCCC run over them.

Count me in on disliking Ball State a lot, especially for letting Can't back into the semis.

Now, who to root for tonight... The scary masked people or the sweaters...?

Elton says Toledo is first game.  The bracket says Buffalo has the first game.  Is there anyone at the Q now who could tell me who is warming up?

On Cleveland.com, Elton didn't trash the Zips.  He said "the Zips don't care" and foul a lot.  And if we are "shooting it" EMUs going to have a problem.

Buffalo is the first game, with Can't/Balls to follow. The top seed's side always goes first, with the opposite side in the evenings.

Currently, Buffalo is up 37-24 with 4 minutes to go in the first half.

Personally, I feel the tougher and more enjoying feat would be winning the MAC tournament as an 11 seed over beating a ~.500 MEAC/SWAC team.

I agree with this, hence my comment about the MAC being a top 10-12 conference RPI/ratings wise. I strongly dislike the MAC, but they are most definitely superior - consistently - to about 15+ conferences.

I also struggle to put much merit on what has become a money game for the NCAA by design. I never liked the play-in game when it was, what, 2 16-seed games? Now I really hate it with higher seeds in there. It's all about squeezing every last dollar out of these schools.

To continue the discussion - how much merit would you give a tourney win in Dayton as a 16 seed?

As much as a Participation Trophy. With that being said, if you told me we'd win a 1st round game in Dayton this year, I'd be incredibly happy, but that has to do more with how this season has gone/expectations.

I know you meant this at a jab at the 20-win streak, but there's the reality is that those 20+ win Akron teams had a far superior resume than this one.  Winning the tournament would put us at 17-17.  Last year, a 19-15 conference champ was a 16 seed play-in.  If Akron somehow pulls this off, start looking at hotels in Dayton.

It was a bit of a jab, but I was also being serious. Again, not to get way ahead of ourselves, but I do think if we were to win the MAC, we would be higher than a 16 seed. There are multiple factors considered beyond record. According to realtimerpi.com the MAC is the 10th ranked conference (even ahead of the A10). The variances in other conference ranking formulas/systems might drop us down a spot or two, who knows, but the fact is the MAC is in the top third of conferences in the country. That would carry quite a bit of weight, with the perceived "prestige" of Akron's recent success being a bonus. The only way Akron would end up in Dayton would be if the NCAA views it as an opportunity to make money with Akron being relatively close, but those Dayton games always show well attendance wise so I don't think that would be a reason to under-seed the 10th-ranked conference's champion.

It's been a busy couple years for me, and I seem to have lost track of our recent results in those series. The trends are still largely true though.

Thanks to you and skip-zip for the historic factual corrections. The standards here are obviously high, and I spouted off like a PCCC graduate. Thanks again for putting me back in line. :D

Don't let it happen again (although before these past couple of seasons, we did traditionally struggle mightily against the zone). :thumb:

Getting way ahead of ourselves but I'd almost guarantee we wouldn't be a 16 seed

Agreed. How can anyone say our program warrants a 16 seed when we've been on a list for the past decade with Duke, Kansas, and Ohio State? I thought we had some prestige with that type of company. ;)

In all seriousness, one game at a time, but I think anybody that faces us is going to be in one helluva dog fight. I have a feeling Groce is going to release the hounds like he did against WMU. Hard-nose defense, constant-motion offense, and an overall high-energy performance. I will be quite disappointed if we don't leave it all on the court.
