  1. I disagree that the biggest chance we had to dominate the MAC and get into a better conference left with Dambrot.

Maybe LBJ should have ponied up some dough for a new arena if he loved his HS coach and hometown so much.

Not sure how anyone can make this post when there is so much optimism looking ahead to next season.

Ummm, wasn't this Antino's last year of eligibility?  As such, I don't get the "entering the NBA draft" thing.  I like Antino, but I think he's going right after LiAngelo Ball in the NBA draft.  I hope the Sports Law Group has connections with GMs in Turkey.

Well hold on here. You might be onto something. What if he's entering the draft to build a relationship and connect with LiAngelo Ball, to get to know his dad, who is a self-proclaimed big time GM in Europe?

In all seriousness, entering the draft is smart. You get to play against better competition, go through some rigorous training, and develop excellent connections I presume. Odds are he wouldn't make it, but he'll build the relationships necessary to be successful overseas.

  3. I think first and foremost, we need the ever-elusive-but-ever-so-important killer guard. I understand we need talent everywhere, but that killer guard makes the difference come March and can take you to that next level. He had that guard at OU with Cooper (Kellogg was solid from deep, too). Look at March Madness this year. How do teams like Loyola become Cinderellas? They have the guards that step up and hit the big shots or make the key passes. Look at WVU. Their success almost single-handily came from Jevon Carter, who was the heart and soul of that team. Much like Terry Francona has revolutionized the importance of a bullpen mafia, college basketball is dominated by killer guards. You can neutralize athletic forwards with a killer guard or two; typically only the blue-chippers are match-up proof, and even then those blue-chip forwards play like guards.

The importance of the killer guard is showing by the number of guards we have offered so far.

Ugh.  Trying to decipher Jimond's Twitter feed is maddening.  I learned the Antino is entering the NBA draft and that "major moves" coming soon.  and now his icon is a pic of a husky dog.  University of Washington?

What about Antino and what is his relevance to Jimond's tweets?

Bizarre rationale for leaving your team?

Seems more like he was searching for an excuse. He just wants a bigger stage to showcase himself for the NFL draft.

All the better for the Zips. He's a good player.

Has nobody showed him a list of MAC players that get drafted? Hell, the #1 overall pick a few years back was from CMU.

    Good riddance. :champs:

Anyone know why they don't sell beer in the JAR currently?

With how bad MAC refs are and how close in proximity some of the fans are to the court, it's probably to protect the zebras from getting an early shower. Bottlegate 2.0?:tomato:

This is a joke right?  Like you make this comment in jest right?  Because I refuse to believe you're that overly simplistic.

What has he really done for people to go like "oh he wasn't that bad!?".  Has UA really changed that much for the better?  I mean c'mon man.

Amen brother, I'm regretting coming to look at this thread after staying away for awhile.  Some people are just flat out delusional.

I know this is nit-picky, and El Presidente likes to throw around "fake news" but please don't.  Fake News does not = someone's opinion.  Fake News is wholesale making up of something to present it as news for the purpose of deceiving people.  Nothing on this thread is "fake news".

He improved our financial situation by increasing donations? What?  Didn't we LOSE donations under the last University President?  So basically he regained the ones we lost right?  The guy isn't a savior...he's was a "better-than-the-last-guy" milk toast.  You coulda inserted anyone into that position and increased donations because he/she wasn't Scarborough.  You're criticizing Dre for having an agenda, when it's pretty clear you have one as well.

When there are adamant assertions made, such as "3. Is Akron better off compared to when he became President? NO and yall will soon find out once stones get un turned with him out the picture" (- Dre), those aren't opinions. The title of "fake news" would be applicable, despite your level of disdain for our President.

Let me get this straight. You're ripping the guy for doing damage control, making amends, and regaining lost donations? He had to start somewhere. That would be like ripping Dambrot in the beginning of his time here for getting Akron back to mediocre mid-major status instead of bottom of the barrel. Whomever takes over next has a better and higher foundation to build upon.

Regarding any statements that question if the University improved under Wilson, look no further than the crowd reactions to him at basketball games. Loud cheers and people loved his interactions and involvement in the shooting contest. He was great. Now make the right hire on the next guy and keep moving forward; no more backward movement.

Cayman Classic 2018.  Five teams announced.  The last three spots are reserved for SEC and ACC teams.  League sponsor is Mountain west.  TV network is CBS.

Terrific field thus far. @Illini Zip's fandom - especially his newly developed support for the Zips - will be tested if Akron has to play Illinois State.

It feels great getting consideration from recruits that a program of Memphis caliber is targeting.

I would feel better if we start getting commitments from recruits that a program of Memphis' caliber is targeting. ;)

  10. Getting blown out by a Kentucky team that struggled with Davidson didn't help the perception either. We'll see where Kentucky's season ends, but that put out the fire surrounding Buffalo a bit.

Any rumors of Nate Oats getting pulled away from Buffalo yet?

Is this Buffalo thread now extended to the women who just made it to the Sweet Sixteen along with Central Michigan. How 'bout those MAC women whipping the Seminoles and Buckeyes!? :D

Huge showing by the MAC women.

The cherry on top is knocking off the 3-seed Suckeyes when the Final Four is in Columbus.

This seems to be academic focused rather than sports and does not show the $ amount of contributions. https://www.uakron.edu/development/honor-roll/index.dot?letter=K&donor_type=indiv

I was unable to find anything like that for the Z Fund, which I suppose is the reason I created this thread - to learn more about who has the power behind the scenes on the sports side. If  I were a betting man, I'd bet @Hilltopper and @skip-zip can provide some input there...

That's a weird corporate list. Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland State, Ohio State, Can't State, etc., yet a company like Leaf Filter isn't on there.

ESPN not giving UMBC enough credit. All I heard was how bad UVA played.  It really should be how great UMBC was.  This isn't a 16 seed beating a 1 seed.  This is technically a 64 seed beating a 1 seed. Amazing...

    Shocker.

The crazy fact is this can NEVER be topped in the tournament, because it is the lowest ranked beating the highest ranked. Incredible.

I repeat: there is absolutely nothing wrong with scheduling one damn gimme. P5 teams schedule 2-3 every season.Defending MAC Champs Toledo even play *gasp* VMI next year.

My issue with the gimme game is that we, as a financially challenged school, are paying a school to play us.

He's got another chance to really impress with Kentucky up next.

Arizona and Kentucky on a "who'd you beat" resume is impressive.

If a blue blood wanted him bad enough I'm sure a ~$2 million buyout would be pocket change to them. I can't imagine he's a target of any of those schools yet, but perhaps if Buffalo pulls off another 1-2 wins he could be.

After all, aren't these schools offering players that kind of money already? ;)

Oats has another factor in his favor: Bobby Hurley is having some success at ASU.

    From googling "nate oats buyout"

There are generally buyouts in these contracts, giving the coach an out if an elite school comes calling. The buyout in previous contracts for Hurley and Oats was half the base salary for the life of the deal. Arizona State paid $525,000 to lure Hurley to the desert.  Buying out Oats in the first two years would be exorbitant, even for a top school. So he'll be sticking around for the immediate future.

So with his new annual salary in the $550-600k range, a school that wants Oats would have to pony up $1.5M for the buyout?

Congrats to Buffalo. They went out and kicked a blue blood's ass who just might have the #1 draft pick on their team. I want Buffalo to keep winning. Means a better chance Nate Oats is gone. He's been very impressive, even moreso than Hurley.

    What is his buyout like?
