Good quotes from Groce but a very poor article overall. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it fails to mention that Gueye is from the University of South Carolina, Parrish left, and LePear Toles will also be an addition, along with the transfers that sat out last year.
With that being said, I am VERY excited for next season.

Lane had the skill-set to be an NFL wide receiver. But he really needed to work harder at the craft.
He thought he knew what it took to be an NFL WR, but he was wrong. I still feel in some NFL team would have put him on the 53-man roster last year and worked with him, they'd have had something in 2018 or 19. But who wants to invest that time when there are 100 "Jerome Lane's" out there fighting an NFL roster spot. He didn't separate himself.
Even staying in Akron for his senior season...he'd have put up some serious numbers in 2017 and maybe done enough to convince an NFL team to invest in him.
Unfortunately it looks like the end of the road for his playing career. Unless he wants to hook up with one of these fly-by-night pro leagues that seem to pop up, and then disappear on a monthly basis.
That was the worst decision of his career. Apparently it is about who you know, because who he knows gave him some atrocious advice.

I do not listen to ESPN Cle, but surely I am not the only one who heard that because the Browns drafted Mayfield, 1) Goldhammer is supposed to eat horse poop (which he claims he still will do) and 2) Grossi is supposed to retire. Please, please let both of those happen.
One of the comments on an article that discussed this said Goldhammer, for how embarrassing he is to the Cleveland fan base, should have to eat the horse crap as a halftime show.

I get the plugging holes aspect of this, but I still don't see any reason there shouldn't be at least a couple of freshmen with potential, even if they redshirt. This isn't Groce's first year and he should have enough historical recruiting ties in the area to get them. Not all of these transfer guys are going to be able to play anyway just based on the numbers. I wonder how they will take having to sit.
I also assume we have all these new guys discussed previously, but the athletic dept doesn't seem to be announcing any of it. Maybe they still have to clear everything first?

Thanks for the reply. I do not know who is advising these kids but I think both had a future at Akron and would have only gotten better with experience. They both got extended playing time as a result of our depleted roster. If Parish left because he did not want to play defense good luck finding another school that does not want him to play defense. I thought Patton played his best basketball at the end of the year and I thought he needed to work on his outside shot but he could contribute next year. I hated to see these guys leave and I hope they were not pushed out for better talent.
- I think you're in the minority on Patton. He was too underdeveloped for where this program has been and is headed.
- Have you watched modern-day basketball? Defense is a thing of the past for a lot of programs/teams.
- I don't necessarily hope they were pushed out if they were 100% bought into the program, but I do hope they are replaced with better talent.
I think @Captain Kangaroo hit the nail on the head. The transfers - at least in Akron's case - are being use to not only stop any bleeding quickly, but get us back on course to being a strong mid-major.

Did anybody wonder if KD has ever been in this situation? “Never,” Dambrot responded when asked if he had ever been in this situation. “Never, never, never never.”

That's quite the positive spin to put on this, stating that the layoffs are due to going in a "new direction" and trying to ignore the fact that they upped the fee to make up any differences, which should bite them in the rear end as time goes on.

We saw him up close at the UMD match. (I should have spoken to him.) Cat is big, and not just tall. He looks like a linebacker.
Hope he got shkills.
I hope he has elbows (no, I'm not calling for cheap shots). I'm sick of these Big Ten schools and Stanford pushing us around, not that we can't overcome that with superior skills - minus Stanford.

sounds right to me (with how it stands today of course).
So as it stands right now, this thread is irrelevant?
I think we're finding out very quickly that off-seasons with Groce will NOT be boring.

Yeah this is interesting considering I thought we were full on scholly's. My totally uniformed opinion - Zipmeister brought up Williams' academics for some odd reason. I'm starting to think he is ineligible this year and doesn't count as a scholly?
Do we not have any scholarships now for 2019?

So did he not play because he really sucks, or did he not play because they are a high quality program and they had better big men he could not unseat?
Rumor has it he didn't play because SC doesn't believe 7' is tall enough to be considered a big man, and he didn't have the dribbling skills to be a PG.
-
Holy crap. Did we have a scholly left?
-
Of course the Steelers took Mason Rudolph.

Zipmeister is a Dayton area resident. I think the point he is making is that Williams is a very gifted athlete but not necessarily a gifted student. The idea that he would have to sit out and attend class for a year in order to play his last year at another institution seems strange.
This is how I interpreted his posts. I agree its strange, but it sounds like he doesn't feel he's developing under the current coaching staff (I believe he came in under Miller?). 2 years to develop before entering the pro ranks - either the NBA or overseas - is a great option.

How many more women's sports do we have to add to be able to make men's lacrosse an official DI program?

This guy only has ONE YEAR left to play -- and must sit out next season!
Yep, but he's going to play for us. Plus, don't think other recruits aren't watching and seeing a Dayton player - who played decent minutes with solid production - transferring to Akron. That helps.
Does anyone know who else he was considering?

Heck of a get.

That's my general thinking as well. Hope to come out of OOC 2-2, win the MAC East, and see what happens in Detroit. Though it will be tough this year as Ohio should be about the same and Miami and Buffalo seem to be on the rise.
Defense should be pretty darn stout. I was thinking during the game about how stacked we are at LB. Looks like we have 7 guys that can play quality minutes - Gilbert, Bell, Lloyd, King, Bubba, Lako, and even Ward.
Something to keep in mind - our offense was likely playing without our top WR in MTB (maybe top 2 as I'm high on McGriff..if he's even on the team), top RB in Sands (maybe top 2 RBs if you include Keyondre), top 2 guys at H Back (though Wolfley could surpass them), and we were playing touch. Many of those sacks on Kato would not have ended that way in a real game.
The only guy I remember getting injured was Sampson. Hopefully it was nothing serious.
This is a great point. The spring game (one-handed touch football for the QB) really isn't the best arena for Kato to showcase and grow his abilities.

Wichita State added another guard. There is some speculation that Neftali might be getting pushed out of their picture. UTEP recently had a house visit and offered him, but Akron is still in the running as far as we know. Our JUCO additions are interesting because those guys don't really hinder Neftali since he would be a true freshman, with really only those guys possibly ahead of him.
-
Was that the best weather for an Akron spring game in a while? Beautiful day to be at the Info.
This program is in good hands with Ramart backing up Kato at the very least. Kato made a beautiful deep throw, but still looks a bit indecisive at times when it comes to running or passing. Ramart makes pretty quick decisions, and is accurate (minus his deep ball interception). I'm hoping Ramart either pushes Kato to improve, or wins the job. Either way, I think we're fine at QB.
Our WRs have a good mix of big and small guys, and I can't remember the last time we were this tall at WR; here's to hoping they have hands.
Our OL depth is insane, considering the freshman weren't even on the roster sheet, yet half the sheet was OL. We're BIG, too. Again, like WR, size isn't necessarily everything but it helps.
Very cool seeing Reggie Corner Jr. on the roster/team. Classic name from the glory days!
This team will be fine this year. Compete in the P5 games (maybe steal one?) and win in the MAC. Get to Detroit, and let's see what happens. Go Zips!

Not to wish ill on him but if he ever bleeds there will be all kinds of cut the cheese jokes. Lots of potential here.
His teammate committed to UB yesterday on a serious note.
Colby or Provolone? I'd be shocked if Mozzarella or Gouda were better than DII.

It could be a situation where Akron is saying, "Show me what you can do," in regards to recruiting. Somewhat of an audition, maybe?
