This goes back to my hypothesis about a fragile sports ego in N.E.Ohio and how "fans" want to latch onto a winner. They aren't willing to invest themselves unless they see it as nearly a sure-bet (OSU) or unless they have already had their great season (Cinci). Even the sports media people do this here.... and no, soccer doesn't count for them.Or maybe Cinci and OSU do a better job of reaching out to the sports media. They set up the interviews, not the radio station. As I asked before, does our athletic dept. actually put out print-ready and air-ready content? But once you catch fire (like Cinci this year) you don't need to do that anymore. The media will come to you.

Well, I have a question.Does the athletic department have a press release and media outlet?Almost all the people in the news industry and entertainment who report the news take information off the wire or the fax machine. Very little digging is ever done anymore, and when information is needed, they use cheap interns to google it.If faxes and press releases were showing up on their doorstep on a regular basis, particularly if it is pre-packaged and ready for air (or print), then they wouldn't have to do any work to use it, and on slow news days, we would get coverage. This would be even more true if we had someone working in our (perhaps newly founded) media release department who was savy at putting a sensational twist on the news releases, because the media likes a little bit of zing, gotcha, controversy, or fad in their material.

The people around here have sports-insecurities. They want to jump on a bandwagon and watch a winner.Except for the small segment of real sports fans (see above) who really just want to see a competitive game (and yes, a win), most people wont subject their fragile egos to anything but what they think is a sure-bet. *remembers all the empty seats at the Gund before LeBron was drafted*You can't counter that phenomenon with lower ticket prices. You can't fix it with cheap hype and billboards. If you have a good season, you may be able to get them to watch you on TV with beer and potato chips, but we aren't on TV.

Thisdon't take it as an insult when in reality it is probably more of a compliment. If Can't didn't feel the need to improve their perception and exposure in Akron, that would be a problem.

If an institution is operating within the parameters set both athletically and academically, then any complaints are just sour-grape whine and cheeze. It's cheating if it's cheating. It's not if it's not.Posing something like this as a vague question without having the guts to lodge an genuine and specific accusation only detracts from the good-sportsmanship of those who posit such insinuations.

Well did you hear anything yet from the Endzone Berm Lawn Gnome? Not anymore... rumor is he died in an industrial accident.

I agree skip-zip that he has plenty of talent, and more-so, I believe he has the heart of a lion. Also, from what I have heard, he seems dedicated to learn the game over and above his peers in the league. But what he hasn't seem to have done is fixed some of his weaknesses. Learning to read defenses doesn't automatically give you pocket presence. The academic aspect is great, but there is a mental state to it that I don't feel like he has obtained. I know it's easier said that done, since we don't have to sit out there and try to work magic with million dollar freight-trains gunning for us, but he still seems to panic and force the ball where it shouldn't go too often.I didn't get to see the oakland-baltimore game... perhaps he already improved in that aspect. I know they say the game slows down the more you play in it, but unfortunately, Charlie doesn't have that luxury. He can't afford to wait 6 games to find his presence, because he's already had more shots to get back in than most guys get.

If only we could. All this political BS is just a smoke screen to keep us from focusing on the Amish and theiir devious plot to restrict the number of Heat Surges to two per household.:o conspiracy! Now wait, I need a clarification of a "heat surge", because...

lol, hey guys, I normally agree with you, but I think the last several "political" comments have been quite sarcastic.Regardless, it has gone off topic. so fine.

lol Ivy League beware. The largest determining factor, regardless of what anyone says publicly, is always going to be money.

I understand that at one point he considered naming it Obama Stadium, but the architects concluded that the stadium would end up tilted so far to the left that everyone would fall out of their seats. Good point. I had heard they were going to name it Republican Party Stadium in honor of a lot of the fundraising InfoCision does, but then they realized the stadium would still lean to the left. Just not as much as if they named it Obama Stadium.See I heard they were originally going to name it honor of Cheney, but they felt that Palpatine Stadium didn't roll of the tongue like Infocision.Yes, they could have named the superdome in new orleans after the evil emperor's power to steer hurricane katrina too.

I don't believe they intend to start Charlie in the future. When they benched Jamarcus, Gradkowski was their QB until he got hurt, and I can't believe that they have given up on Russell yet. I expect them to give him another go next year.I think Charlie's shot was to come in and light that place up, and unrealistic as it may be to expect a guy who hasn't started in several seasons to perform at top level, I do think he made too many mistakes. It's better to give up the ball to your special teams unit than to the other team's defense.

To be perfectly honest, I am not nearly the fan of pro football that I used to be. The process has been gradual over the years, but I can remember a time in my life when watching an NFL game was a fun event for me. What it has turned into now is a struggle for me to watch a commercial-fest with sporadic periods of football sprinkled in between.Do you guys realize the name Zips was from a sponsorship of a local rubber producer? We should all be careful to think that sports has not always been about money. It has.Is that right? I thought the story was that they had a vote and they chose something local at the time, and the zipper won.I'm not sure I'd have voted for that, but it's not unlike calling yourself the Seminoles because that's a recognizable regional indigenous tribe. And again, I had no problem with the NCAA allowing the Orange growers association sponsoring the orange bowl. Again, oranges are symbollic of florida. That's entirely different in my book from having the brand name of a muffler or snack chips on your bowl name.... and yes G-mann, I do have a problem with the NCAA, but like the NFL I deal with it. They haven't warded me off completely (yet). I don't go around burning a torch and making it my life's goal to complain about how the commercialism is going beyond just tainting the purity of the game and getting to the point of quashing the game atmosphere enough to drive people away. I can handle just walking away from it some day.... or more as it has really gone, just slowly losing more and more interest over the years. But it's a topic related to this thread topic, so I just wanted to get my opinion across about it.

I didn't see this until just now.*throws into sig*

Understood and Agreed.Even so, it doesn't change the fact that it makes the game seem cheaper, less pure and less prestigious... particularly those bowl games. Just look at that list in the thread topic post.

I agree...the Raiders are terrible, and it showed when Frye tried to make things happen. He showed some talent, just his receivers are AWFUL.Someone just called me to tell me that two of Oakland's WRs, a TE, and a RB did not play because of injury, yet Charlie's passing yards were the highest of any QB in the league this week. If that's true, it's pretty amazing...whether some people on here like Charlie or not.He had 4 INTs.If you get the most yards in the league, and the most interceptions, odds are you are still going to be on the losing team in the league.I always felt Frye had this amazing ability to make things happen. It's the kind of talent-instinct that is probably not easy to coach. That's great, but he's gone and become an exaggerated caricature of himself... when instead, he should have been learning to slow the game down and make better decisions with the football. You always hear them talk about how Charlie is always preparing for games, or how Mike Holmgren taught him so much about the game. So, he's obviously developed in that aspect. But he hasn't compensated for his bad decisions and his instinct to force the football. We know he has heart and he has passion, but in my opinion, until he slows down the game and lets it flow (instead of force it, which was my Tao reference), then he is going to continue to be a liability for any offense that he leads. As a comparisson, ROFLzberger doesn't look as frantic in the pocket as Charlie does.

and each of those bowls were presented byRose - Pasadena department of tourismOrange - Orange growers association of AmericaSugar - Sugar industry of AmericaCotton - Cotton industry of AmericaBowls have always been corporately sponsored. It's just now they are done by companies like FedEx, Allstate, and Meineke instead of natural resource conglomerates. But the names were geographic amorphisms. Everyone knew they grew oranges in Florida. It wasn't the Sunkist TM pulp-free orange-juice bowl. Then you are really just complaining about naming, which would be a great stance if we didn't play our home games at Infocision Stadium-Summa Field and all those rich people didn't have to pass through the House of LaRose Lobby on their way to the FirstMerit Foundation Club Level. For the most part do you say "It's time to watch the Allstate Sugar Bowl" or "It's time to watch the Sugar Bowl"?I'm going to bet that 99.95% of everyone says the latter. It's a necessary evil that effects almost no one, because it doesn't change the day to day for anyone. Heck I say the Info, or "ready to go campus for the game".I think the comparisson between brand names sponsoring bowl games and sports venues are different.... though to tell you the truth, a venue would probably seem somewhat less tainted and perhaps more a true community asset if it did not have the whored out names. I had considered bringing up the sports venue issue in my earlier post, because I anticipated your response. Shame on me for being lazy.

Seriously, the NCAA has no idea how cheap and hokie this stuff makes them look.I remember when I was a kid, new years day was all about the Rose bowl, orange, sugar, cotton, and it had a level of prestige and pageantry.

okay, but maybe they were there to see Valparaiso *hides*

I can't defend that. Hey Charlie. I'm quite sure you don't come here, but if you do, let me just pontificate one thing.Compensation is considered an shameful defense mechanism. However, in your chase, I recommend it.Your natural gift is to make things happen. But you have only gone further toward that phenomenon, to your detriment. What you should be doing, along with knowing the game which it is said you have done, is to compensate and play efficiently.Forcing? Bad idea. Get a Taoist teacher.

I can't go that far, since I've been a browns fan since I was 9, hoping for a loss is almost sacrilegious. lol. However, I'll just say that I hope the browns win yet somehow Charlie has a stellar day. How this would happen would be that DA has a comparatively good day as well (yikes, that wouldn't get the message across about the errant firing of Frye) or that the browns win it with special teams. LOL. Oh the dilemas. I can see that happening though.Frye 35DA 0/Cribs 28/Harrison 7/Dawson 3:lol:
