  1. I can't see how the city would ever let exchange get turned pedestrian like Buchtel. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the university minds aren't keen on new retail in the area. I suspect that they would prefer to gravitate toward a more residential atmosphere around the campus. Lots of retail is too cosmopolitan, and well, it might just hurt future plans to control the market.
  2. How many sports articles have you read in your time? There is almost always a sense of catering to the hopes of both sides in any article written before a game or match, even if it demonstrates a disconnect with reality. This is just how they do it. ESPN isn't in the business of slamming Stanford. The article is a mere hype piece. It is to be expected. You'll find this is the rule, while there may be exceptions, writers never want to be the one who dogged a bad team who ended up winning, and their publishers never want to receive hate mail for disrespecting a sports organization too highly.
  3. I'm starting to get that vibe but I don't understand why. Most people will remember that I stuck up for keeping JD the last two seasons.I kept saying that you have to give a coach at least 4 or 5 years to demonstrate his vision as a progression without the stain or shadow of predecessors. I believe that time has past. All I can hope for is that if he is kept for another year, he makes Wistrcill and Proenza look like geniuses and seers.Whoever is strategizing the offense next year, I hope they aren't plagued with 2 dimensional vision. You don't just spread the field and vary the options, you stretch the field too and you make defenses try to cover what they can't, hesitate, and panic.
  4. Here's a crazy thought...if we have an indoor practice facility for football, and an outdoor field (summa style) right next to it, why do we need the practice field next to schrank? How about we use the real estate better?given we have two soccer teams one football team one marching band and a bunch of frat/sororitys that play falg football I say that the field is fine IMHOlol@fag football

    Effort

"effort"for some reason, that word grates on me a little bit.e f f o r thmph.I thought the kids who needed special coaxing to put in effort didn't play past high school.

  7. If I'm not mistaken, the Broncos used our practice facility when it was new.before the HoF game one year
  8. It's funny. We have spent years making fun of Can't grads for holding low level jobs. When the Great GP1 actually sees one working a job like we have made fun of for years, breaks the guys balls to his face during the Akron vs Can't game and now we aren"t supposed to make fun of Can't fans for being losers?I'm sorry, but Can't sucks and they deserve all the crap we can throw at them.In their face is funny as a humorous quip. That is all.I would take a good-natured dish from a KÉnt grad all in good fun, and try to dish back best I could.I know people who graduated can't, including the guy who owns the company I work for.My brother went there, and I give him crap all the time, but if I was in a bar and you rode him without showing any sense of humor, I'd bust your chops.Rivalries are fun, but if you actually and genuinely hate people from Can't, then you got some major insecurities to deal with.
  9. *sprinkles magic dust*
  10. I work in the department that handles this, so I'll chime inI dont know. Ive asked about it before to our department head and I didn't get a clear answer as to why and if it would ever be fixed. If I were to hazard a guess, however, I believe that the DNS server has issues with resolving the name without a subnet identifier, especially with all the servers and subdomains we run. Gozips.com is a separate entity and is outside the control of UA. Its a site that is managed by the Athletics department and hosted outside of UA (unlike uakron.edu which is hosted on UA mainframe servers).wow!Even I have dealt with DNS records before.Just add a zone for WWW and have it direct to your web server IP just like the default record does[edit] actually I typed in uakron.edu in my browser just now and it went to the website.
  11. I suspect most coaches have a curve. This is just my wacky hypothesis, but you want to find someone ahead of the curve... who will not only be a leader (you would hope) and manager, but who will innovate and adapt a successful philosophy on the field. Many older and more experienced coaches have experience with leadership and management of a program, but may be washed up, or behind the curve on the current state of the product on the field. Ideally, you need to discover someone who has a big curve potential, and grab them. How do you spot the curve? It's just an x-factor if you don't know what to look for.
  12. I'm not sure if I agree with how you score these two. A top BCS coordinator has not proven top level leadership and management... only focused success at best. A former BCS coach, may temporarily appease the masses, but that lasts only as long as they win. Chalk up a few losses, and appeasement ends. "...and hopefully something good will happen" is true for any option in your list.A former BCS coach has experience running a program. This does not inherently equate to success on the field, but it leaves less unanswered variables than the rest of your options.
  13. I think I checked the cams several days ago and they were up.
  14. Okay, I know that not everyone values money highest, and I personally would much rather continue to work with the best program in the nation, particularly if I helped put it there, but when you talk about how do you quantify a discount for such things? If you were going to more-than double the money I was making, I might just have to start to find virtue in the challenge of fixing a problematic program. Just being realistic. Even if it wasn't me, I'm sure the wife would apply a hellalot of pressure
  15. oh damn, that looks like a laugh bag of hokieness
  16. Okay, it was a dirty thing he did, and he got ejected for it.Maybe he should have been punished more, but let's not get crazy.
  17. BTW, to be fair, I can't imagine a "charlie Frye Era in Oakland".First, Oakland may pull the plug on Jamarcus Russell for a while, but they are going to have to go back to him.He is too high a pick and signed for too long and too much money to just give up on him.Secondly, I actually don't think that they will start Frye barring an injury or two.Just being realistic.I just disagree with the abject negative perspectives that certain people have about Charlie.
  18. I'm usually just fine with people having their own opinions, but for some reason you just make me sick. I know I shouldn't have this reaction to a forum poster, but I can't help feeling that you have a real problem with being fair and reasonable.I don't think myself or anyone else here who hopes Charlie does well is expecting him to become Peyton Manning. But just isn't a winner? In particular seem to remember a game against Marshall where Frye displayed amazing heart. He was magic and seemed to will a win in a very hard fought game. And of course, winning MVP of the senior bowl was a fluke too, since he "just isn't a winner"I know those things are anecdotal, but I watched him play and I saw a winner.
  19. good point skip-zip.They later gave Derek Anderson a better offensive line, and got Edwards and Winslow healthy together, and DA had a good season. Now, the Browns are once gain without receivers or a running game, and even though the OLine is still better now than it was when Charlie was playing, it hasn't been protecting DA (or quinn) very well this year. Now suddenly miracle man seems very very mortalRNK QB RTG YDS/GM1 Peyton Manning, 114.5 3132 Aaron Rodgers, 110.8 2843 Drew Brees, 106.9 2834 Matt Schaub, 104.4 2965 Ben Roethlisberger, 102.6 2956 Brett Favre, 102.2 2407 Kyle Orton, 100.1 2448 Tom Brady, 99.9 2909 Philip Rivers, 96.1 29810 Tony Romo, 94.7 27511 Donovan McNabb, 93.8 20412 Joe Flacco, 93.8 27913 Eli Manning, 92.2 23314 Matt Ryan, 90.2 22715 Carson Palmer, 89.2 23016 Kurt Warner, 89.1 27917 Kevin Kolb, 88.9 18518 Matt Hasselbeck, 85.0 18219 Jason Campbell, 84.3 20020 David Garrard, 83.9 24421 Jay Cutler, 82.9 24222 Seneca Wallace, 82.6 12923 Shaun Hill, 79.6 15724 Chad Henne, 76.5 16525 Matt Cassel, 73.2 16626 Trent Edwards, 73.0 16427 Marc Bulger, 72.5 13028 Byron Leftwich, 71.2 19829 Matthew Stafford, 65.5 22430 Kerry Collins, 62.0 17931 Mark Sanchez, 61.5 16832 Jake Delhomme, 56.5 19533 Josh Johnson, 50.9 11434 JaMarcus Russell, 47.2 12735 Derek Anderson, 40.6 121
  20. If Frye plays again, and plays well, his h8rs on this board will probably says things like "fluke" and "give him another week".That's my prediction.

  22. If we bet ken+ I will do the biggest happy dance evar.lul, the shame of it. Oh, the same of it. That would really chap ken+s arse!Even better if we knocked them out of some sort of bowl contention (though I can't imagine them being in that position)
  23. Quoting Rachel Green from friends: "What a load of crap!"I remember after the Mac championship in 2005 JD was waiting for the first offer to move on but, unfortunately, no school was stupid enough to offer him.where did you hear that? I mean, if you have it on very good authority, and it's no just your opinion, it would change my view of J.D. a little, but I am highly suspicious of your source. I suspect you just took a look at him and decided he was going to bail at the first opportunity.STZ, loyalty means something to me.However, I will be the first one to admit that when a guy has not had a stellar career with you, there is no way for you to know what would have happened, and what offers he would have taken, if things had been different. When it comes to football, results count a lot more than good intentions. However, good intentions still count for something with me. I don't like quitters, and I don't like guys who decide to do something and then don't put their heart and soul into it. I think JD has done that much. The results just don't show it, and that is why he should get the remainder of the season to try for some wins, because it's over.Kicking him out to the street does nothing positive for the rest of the season.e
  24. I had to quit watching/listening too... but I'm going out anywayThanks for that link, BTW. I bookmarked it.@JDBrookhart.Guys, he is good as gone. Writing is on the wall.I'm just as frustrated as you, but he poured 5+ years of dedication into our team, and I say let him finish out the season.
  25. Agreed. The OSU fans in Cincy are obviously bandwagoners... but when your team is mediocre, there isn't much you can do about it except scoff. But when your hometown team is doing well, the OSU bandwagoners need a kick in the pants. After all, they latched on to OSU because it's a winner, why suddenly decide that you have the virtues of loyalty now? If you can't even get behind your hometown team when they are winning, then you deserve the scorn these ads are dishing out (not that jumping on the bearcat bandwagon once they are ranked makes you a real fan)
