  1. A references to a phone booth in 2010 strikes me as an anachronism. Maybe there are a few still in existence. My guess is most college students have never used one. I just can't see that name catching on.
  2. Former Cleveland Indians: Gaylord Perry; Chris James; Tommy John.
  3. Milton Bradley. John Glenn. Jason Patrick.
  4. Stick with football. 1.) One of D.I.G's all time best posts 2.) I think we have located the elusive "Joe Akron." Who knew he was right under our noses all these years?! +1 You're going to need the support of Joe Akron if you ever want to see basketball be a big draw.
  5. He said that he would prefer to stay at Toledo, but he asked for a release to keep his options open. He wants to see how the coaching change pans out. I'm sure the new coach will try to talk him into staying.
  6. Then don't read the thread, dude. Prettty simple solution.Actually, I think the topic is so stupid, i came here just to tell you guys Classy.

  8. This topic got me to spend about 10 minutes on a totally unscientific project. I looked at the rosters for Alabama and Texas to see how many players were from cold weather states. I did the same for Penn State and Ohio State, except I was looking for players from warm weather states. Like I said, this was a 10 minute project so I may be off a bit on the numbers, but this is what I found. Alabama has only 2 players on their roster from cold weather states. Texas has 3 players from cold weather states. Amazingly, to me anyway, all but 5 players on the Texas roster are from Texas. They pretty much have the luxury of recruiting exclusively from Texas. High school football in Texas must be as good as they say.Penn State has 10 players from warm weather states. It looks like they go to Texas for their out-of-region recruting. Ohio State has 12 players from warm weather states. Ohio State goes to Florida for its out-of-region recruiting. Also, a quick check of the University of Florida roster shows 7 players from cold weather states, but mostly Florida and Georgia players.
  9. A pedestrian bridge over Exchange is a good idea in theory, but probably not in practice. Where's there's a grade-level crossing available people tend to perceive a bridge as inconvenient. Its easier to just cross the street and take your chances. Also, I think the ADA would require such a bridge to be handicap-accessible and so there would probably need to be a winding ramp up and down, and that would also discourages use.If/when the university expands south of Exchange this will become more of a problem, but I doubt a bridge will be built.
  10. Charlie was injured, in the 4th quarter, I think. Jamarcus Russell came in for the winning TD drive. Who knows who will start next week.
  11. Halftime: Oakland 13; Denver 6. I'm following the game on CBSSportsline gametracker. Charlie is 8/15, 57 yards, 0/1. Apparently, they are keeping him on a short leash.
  12. Goff's article is actually under the WP sports blogs, not the columns. Its official. He has signed with the MLS and will be eligible for the January draft.
  13. Goff's article is actually under the WP sports blogs, not the columns.
  14. According to the "Soccer Insider" column by Steven Goff in today's online Washington Post, Teal has decided to skip college and head to the MLS next year.
  15. This is great news. Thank you Tom W. and Dr. Proenza for stepping up.
  16. 190 minutes without a goal.
  17. Caleb's analysis on TV seemed spot on. Akron looked a little tentative and UVA is being pretty physical. It will be interesting to see how the players respond the rest of the way. Akron did well to keep things scoreless. This looks like a 1-0 game.
  18. I understand the rule and I understand that Akron is 23-0-01, but it is still hard to reconcile that with the fact that Akron won the game. Even the ncaaa.com website has an article on the game in which it refers to the Akron "win." A poster on the ABJ site tried to use the analogy of "sudden death" in a PGA event, and how the extra holes don't count toward the player's tournament score, but even then the player is given credit for the victory on his career total. Its a strange rule. Nobody will ever be able to convince the North Carolina players that they did not lose that game. From what I'm reading on the various boards, Virginia is given a slight edge, especially given that the crowd will be heavily pro-ACC.This has become the signature sports program at the university. They better do whatever they need to to keep Caleb. Make him the highest paid college soccer coach in the country. He has earned it.
  19. Did not mean to post it under basketball ,obviously. He'll do a good job at Kansas. I'm surprised he didn't leave last year.
  20. Just announced.
  21. I wish they'd say something about his status. If its only a minor quad injury, he might be able to play on Sunday. Did anyone see him getting any treatment on the sidelines? He did not seem to be in any obvious pain as he watched the game.
  22. I know we are all excited but I think we are really 23-0-1.I stand corrected. It sure beats the heck out of 23-1.
  23. 24-0. That was so great. But I can't take another game like that.
  24. There has been at least half-a-dozen references to Akron's "weak schedule" and/or expressions of surprise that Akron is playing so well against ACC competition. They are definitely considering Akron to be the underdog, although as the game goes on they seem to be giving Akron more respect.
  25. These TV announcers are so pro-ACC it is ridiculous.
