i think emotions are running so high right now that its probably not the best time to have a fair discussion of kd's legacy. i'll offer that opinion after his career at akron is done.
-
if you can't beat this so-so miami team on a neutral floor, its hard to argue that you belong in the ncaa tournament. miami got akron to play down to its level. a good team should put them away. i expect one-and-done for them. still, a good season. but it had the potential to be a great one.
-
that last shot looked like it was off the glass. a fluke shot beat us. i expect whoever plays miami in the tournament will make quick work of them.
-
that 3 attempt by dru looked like a panic shot. settle down guys. travis looked very cool at the line.
-
oh shit.

i'm a little nervous too. the zips should be putting this one away but they are not. at least not yet. if they can stretch the lead to 10 i will feel much better. if miami keeps it within 6 going into the last few minutes the game is still within their reach.

if akron wins this the rowdies had better storm the court.

speaking as a fan, temple in the mac makes makes no sense. i thought the same thing about central florida. it makes the conference look bad to take in programs who have nowhere else to go.the mac should have required football and basketball from temple, or nothing.

it was good to see that the fictional akron team gave the fictional pitt team all it could handle.

sure, the team can cut a player at any time, but when a player signs the contract he now has an incentive to play well enough so that does not happen. the fourth year option helps the team because it can lock-in the player at a previously contracted salary for the fourth year, which could be a good deal for the team if the player is still playing well. but if the team decides it is not in its interest to exercise the option, then obviously the fourth year option is meaningless. as a gm, i would like to have as many contracts as possible with option years because it would give me, not the players and their agents, more control over the make-up of team and the salaries paid. by agreeing to the option year, the player is giving up some future leverage, but i'm sure that's part of the give and take of the negotiations.i'm no expert on this, but that's my sense of how things work. please correct me if i'm wrong.as a fan i kind of like the no-guaranteed-money contracts in the nfl. that way, if a team signs a player who is a bust, it can cut him and not have to pay him. that's why the agents for the top football draft picks love that non-fundable bonus money up front.

when wyatt webb resigned rumours were circulating about an issue in his personal life, but obviously since it was just a rumour i don't have any idea if it was true so i don't feel it would be fair to his memory to repeat it. i just remember his resignation as being unexpected.

good for lee owens. i always thought he was a class act. -
1987 AP beat Illinois, a #3 seed. I believe that DV did live up to his word and actually stand on his head after the upset.Last train to Clarksville. Good one. I bet they've never heard that one before. I am impressed that you got Davy Jones first name spelled right, not that I was a Monkees fan or anything like that.

i don't know if this qualifies as an intelegent argument, but so what if 10 people wore osu stuff to the game. i'd love to see the place filled with people wearing akron related gear, but if a few people wear osu stuff they are probably osu fans and i don't take offense to that. giving them a hard time is going to make them less likely to want to come back for another game. people can like whatever teams they want. some people are osu and zips fans, or fans of one or the other. that's fine with me. welcome to the game and please come back. if i go to a browns-ravens game and see someone wearing a colts hat, i think to myself, he's a colts fan. i do not get angry with him for wearing a colts hat to browns stadium.

miami's record is bad but it looks like they've have played fairly well. their losses include a 2 point loss to illinois, a 2 point loss to dayton, a 1 point loss to wright state, and a 6 point loss to michigan. they also lost to kentucky and cincinnati but neither game was a blowout.they've beaten Can't and ill-chicago. i think akron will win, but i'm just saying ....

uazip, you are doing a fantastic job. thanks.

espn has it akron 37 ou 36 at the half.

forgot about papa john's stadium. nice stadium, dumb name. better than value city arena, though. i never realized that the carrier dome was named for the air conditioning company. at least they didn't call it the carrier air conditioning dome.since just about every pro park (baseball, football, and basketball) has corporate naming, it's surprising that colleges have not jumped on this as a revenue source bigger than they have. there are no big 10, pac 10, big 12, SEC, or MAC corporate named stadiums.
-
is there any college stadium for which corporate naming rights have been sold? i can't think of any.

i googled "rubber bowl" and "attendance record" and found this entry on the vandelaysports.com site: "the largest rubber bowl crowd was 43,171 versus butler in 1971." butler! must have been the acme-zip game.

regarding directions to the ut glass bowl, if you're coming in on the turnpike to I-75, to I-475, you could get off on the douglas rd. exit off of I-475 (turn left on douglas, about 2 miles to ut), which is about a mile before the secor rd exit. douglas rd. will take you to ut's main entrance on bancroft (follow the signs), which is usually pretty jammed up for game days, which is why i advise the secor rd. route. but if you like the idea of being in the middle of the action, take the douglas rd. route.the tailgating is done in the parking lot to the immediate north of the stadium. bad weather and dissappointing records for both teams should keep the crowd down. i know a lot of ut fans were pointing to this game. now, not so much.looking forward seeing a good game and hearing a loud akron contingent.
-
directions: get off the turnpike at exit 64; take I-75 north for 10 miles or so; take the exit for 475 west (marked as the exit for "maumee and ann arbor"); go west on 475 maybe 3 miles to the exit for secor rd; then left on secor about 2 miles to the ut campus. the glass bowl is pretty much in the middle of the campus.don't get off the turnpike exit to I-280 (exit 71, i think), because I-280 is closed when you get to toledo and you will be completely screwed.three hours probably is a little long for a non-stop trip. two hours and 30-45 minutes is more like it (campus to campus, that is). ballingirl, if you do that trip in 1 hour 45 minutes, you are one crazy driver. since we are talking about around 140 miles, some of it in the city, you do the math to figure out how fast you'd have to drive to do that.
-
realistically, the drive from akron to the u. toledo campus is 3 hours.

bentley's recovery has been complicated due to his staph infection and his return now appears to be pushed back. in fact, i've seen some suggestions that this injury is possibly a career-ender. whoever did the color commentary on sunday's game said something like "this franchise has already ruined one quarterback" (couch), and watching charlie take his weekly beating, you have to wonder how long he can last. its hard to watch.

carthon's replacement is jeff davidson, who is an akron native, according to reports. that crennell stuck so long with carthon has made me doubt me doubt romeo's judgment. from the browns games i've seen, it appeared the offensive strategy was to bore their opponents into submission.let's hope the new guy lets charlie audible at the line, something that carthon was said to be against.
