A UA assistant told me earlier this year Ali admitted it was the wrong decision, especially to go where he did, and Ali took it upon himself to make sure the team would welcome him back. And they did with open arms. Whether he plays or not this year, he’s already added tremendous value in being able to practice with the team and provide guidance to the young guys. Things most people don’t think about. I much prefer this move instead of getting another Maishe Dailey or Trimble.

Why do you say, "...especially to go where he did,"?

And I agree.  Him practicing with the team everyday is great for everyone, and with his transfer experience he could be one of our best recruiters.

  2. Of our 3 commits, two (Young & Brisco) were very highly recruited, while we were Eric Mahaffey's only D1 offer. So I'm still scratching my head on that one.  If you are too, you can see Mr. Mahaffey in action at STVM on Saturday, December 9th at 2:00 p.m.  I'm planning on going to see if I can see what Coach Groce saw that apparently no one else did.

I heard that Ali had 8 credit hours left to complete which would be done this semester.

That's what I am figuring makes the most sense, i.e., he won't be eligible until next semester.

If he ends up not eligible at all this season it's a huge whiff by Groce & Co.

Edit: It is very disappointing to be talking about Zips Men's Soccer's next season this early in November.

💯 I clicked over to FloFC to cancel my subscription a month earlier than I had hoped I would. 😢

*Didn't cancel b/c FloSports is also carrying the men's basketball Cayman Islands Classic.  So I'm gonna hold on to it for another 9 days.

No, I was making the point that Thorpe's "college" team did not play Buchtel/Akron, implying we were not considered a major football program then either, but that so many of the schools we are looking up to now were already established. We have been trying to play catch-up to the big boys since the early days of college football.

💯🎯 (I'm out of reactions... per usual.)

  6. Count me as one who wishes we had a P5 on the schedule. This team is strong enough to garner Top 25 votes but I have a feeling they'll be difficult to come by without a win over a P5 on our resume'.  When we've got a team this strong we should at least give ourselves the chance.

When do we think Tribble will hit his first 3 of the season? I would put the over/under at 2.5 games with Heidelberg being game 3

    Bump.

I'll bet we've all been pleasantly surprised with Greg hitting 2 3's in the first two games.  One being a nasty cross-over step-back 3 while purposely draining the shot clock.

Crossing my fingers he's still a moderately consistent 3-point threat heading into conference season.

Yes, Kyan is fast. I am a big St Eds fan. I have watched him for a few years and can say he has good hands, can really go up after a ball. He is what call and elastic player. He can twist turn into all sorts of positions and then catch the ball. I've seen him drop a couple but not many. A real threat, glad he is coming here.

This was from last week's game vs. Canton McKinley

I believe Kyan Mason actually plays at St Eds in Lakewood not Genville

    Fixed.  Thank you.

I believe he had tweeted at the beginning of the season that he was transferring to Glenville but that apparently never happened.  And now that you mention it, I was aware he still played for St. Ed's.  I watched the St. Ed's vs. Hoban game online & he had 2 of St. Ed's 3 explosive plays on the evening.  He's fast.

[Edit] and St. Ed's 3rd explosive play was a broken play where the QB just ran for about 30 yards.  So Kyan had the only 2 explosive plays which were actually designed. (The game was a defensive struggle.) St. Ed's won 14-7.

From what I can tell, the 2 best players on Walsh's teams this year are not seniors.  The first article is from a few years ago.  The 2nd link is an article from this morning's beacon...showing the all state teams for both boys and girls

Walsh Junior Hannah Pachan was selected as the best player in the state for division 1.   Ms. Pachan is a junior and she had 33 goals and 11 assists this year.

Walsh had one other player selected to the second team all state.  That player is also a junior.  Her name is Reagan Pentz.   Yes, that last name is familiar.  Reagan's older sister , Morgan played for both Walsh Jesuit and the Akron zips.

I didn't realize Hannah Pachan was only a junior.  Unfortunately she's already verbally committed to Virginia Tech.

Cleveland State knocks off Ohio tonight.  Going into the game, Ohio held a 14-2 alltime record against CSU and the Vikings hadn't beaten the kitties since 1997 or 2000 or thereabouts, I forget when they said exactly.  Watched most of it. Fun game.

I'm a bit torn. I used to hate CSU but they've been so irrelevant for so long, and have refused to play us for so long that now I just feel nothing about them. But rivalries are fun and I think I kind of miss that rivalry... so maybe I hope they turn their program around?

The old UA-KSUcks-YSU-CSU coaches for cancer(?) thing was a nice event... and so easy to organize.  If CSU would schedule us again maybe we could bring it back?

Unfortunately this arena is still better than what we have in the JAR. Please contribute $60 M so we can have an arena deserving of this program.

Took a small group with one newbie to the Southern Miss game last night. His very first comment after we survived the perilous climb up the rickety bleachers was, "This isn't a very nice arena."
