My guess is that the lack of any attendance put the program way under budget and they had to make up some revenue so they took the OSU offer. It sucks to lose when we all thought this would be a .500 team, or better. Whether we like it or not (I don't) the OSU guarantee allows us to give Joe the budget he wants. He's just not delivering so far. Next year brings hope.

This was also my guess. Our abominable season led to almost zero gate revenue so we’re now desperate to make it up somehow. If we had a team worthy of more butts in the seats we’d have the financial flexibility to be able to survive while picking up a game with a middling to low tier P5.

  2. Just looked at the box score & see Prather didn't receive a single minute even versus Heidelberg.  Is he still injured?  It looks like he's been dressing.

    He's only a R-Fr., but zero minutes?

Amani Lyles is another concern.  Against Heidelberg he saw 20 minutes, shot 5-of-7 for 10 points, and had 8 rebounds, so that's a nice line... but... Heidelberg.

Thus far against D1 competition all of our games have been nail biters so there's not really been a good situation where Groce could afford to let him get his feet wet in mop up duty.

    He tallied...

    2 minutes vs. SDSU

    0 minutes vs. S.Miss

    0 minutes vs. FIU, and

    0 minutes vs. Utah State

Just something to keep an eye on. I'm not throwing the towel in on Amani yet.

But with minutes like Prather and Amani have been getting, or, more specifically not getting... Idk.

  3. One thing that gives me hope of not losing key contributors to the TP is the Wagon Wheel postgame interview with Lingard.  According to him he absolutely LOVES it here and plans on being a presence around the program for the rest of his life.  He's played at both Miami-FL and Florida, so I'm sure he's letting the fellas know they're in a good place and the grass is definitely not always greener.

Maybe I missed this along the way. But this MAC-SBC Challenge is something new. Is it possible that if we lead the MAC come February we might get a shot at the current AP #22 James Madison University?

    I think that's the idea! 💪💪

Kent state will fall to Missouri State 56-52. 52???? I’ve only been watching college basketball seriously since I started college in 2021 but I’ve never seen Kent held to 52

We'll have to study that film & see what Missouri State was doing to them!  Did you watch the game?  Was it Missouri State... or did KSUcks just have an off night?

  6. In the postgame interview responding to Joe Dunn saying (IIRC), "Coach, I'm so glad you hung those 'Walk-On Tryout' flyers in the Rec Center."  Coach Groce said, "Enrique's a unicorn.  I could coach for another 50 years and a situation like Enrique's would never happen again."

FIU lost to UCF by 23, Tarleton State by 17 (at home it looks like), and Miami FL by 6, then beat Houston Christian by 9.

This will be an interesting matchup. Their schedule should lend itself to a decent base RPI with games against Liberty, FAU, NMSU, MTSU, WKU, and La Tech.

They look tough so far. I really  like their pressure defense.

There will not be 10,000 fans at the stadium. It will look like 20k, but that’s because fans of MAC sports programs no longer know how to judge actual attendance anymore. Also, the bag policy is the same now as it was for the two times that Hoban played at Akron last year in the playoffs. There’s a reason the schools and OHSAA love playing at Akron. They are the best host these schools get until Canton.

Hope they do a great job! We should host these games AMAP.

Just wait until they realize the new parking company is charging them $10 to park.  I think OHSAA allows the schools to charge $5, but who knows about places like UA.

I have almost ZERO faith in the U to roll out the red carpet and to make this as professional, delightful, and headache-free an evening as possible for our esteemed guests from Walsh and Hoban.  Instead, UA will show up 5 minutes early, unprepared, and hit 100 bumps in the road.
