  1. I know people from the UA athletic department are part of ZipsNation, or at least check us out occassionally. Can you guys pass along the above uniform designs to the proper decision makers? Additionally, from a PR perspective, it could potentially be a nice shout-out to the Zips' fanbase, perhaps advertising that someone from ZipsNation helped design the uniforms. Somehow, some way, we need to get this community more involved with the university. This could be one very easy way to do just that!(Besides, the uniforms are top-shelf! We'd have arguably the sharpest uniforms in the nation to go along with the nicest, "I didn't say the largest," football stadium in the country!)
  2. If you are referring to the "early signing" period for basketball..that isn't until November...either the 13, 14th or 15th (somewhere around there)Here's my prediction: Akron WILL sign someone. And Gamechanger54 will reply on this site! And all the MAC will shudder at the sound of his name!
  3. Wow! It's 8:00 in the morning and I'm sitting here full of goosebumps! Now I'm not going to need any coffee. Did anyone get any video of the team coming over and saluting/thanking the Rowdies? They never showed that on tv but I hear that it was a rather amazing moment.
  4. That's exactly what I was thinking! The all-blues are dark & mean. the all-whites are beautiful and the all-golds are flat-out saaaweeeet!Btw, vmd9, I don't believe you've ever posted before; that has to be the greatest initial post in ZipsNation history! The Zippy - LBJ23 - cityscape graphic is truly awesome! I copied it and am going to try to use it as my desktop! I hope you don't mind!Come around more often!
  5. Check out the Zips Zone on GoZips.com. It costs $60 a year (if I remember correctly) but I think it's definitely worth it! I was able to watch last year's basketball game @ Dayton, as well as a few other b-ball & football games. I'm going to re-subscribe when my initial year is over.
  6. Anyway, sorry about the rabbit trail ranting. Back to Ryan Bain...Hang in there Ryan! We were all looking forward to watching you wreck havoc on the gridiron this year, but we'll wait to see you next year! Keep your head up!
  7. Thanks CK! The ABJ should have been on the stress fracture story before the opener @ Wisky and they should have been on this story last week. Unlike yourself, they are absolutely passionless about Akron coverage. Here is an Associated Press clipping from today's ABJ concerning Ryan's situation.http://www.ohio.com/sports/30832714.htmlToo bad it took an Associated Press release for our local paper to take note of this important local situation.Additionally, there is not more than a single sentence in today's ABJ Sports section regarding tonight's implication-filled Bowling Green game. The ABJ Sports ran front page stories on the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cleveland Browns, and, of course, the Columbus State Buckeyes, but Akron? No, the ABJ screwed us again. Dirty rotten scoundrels. I wonder is their intentional goal is to make us feel unimportant? Way to go ABJ!
  8. I put that up there because I trust Rasor when he says he has multiple sources, so I don't consider him "any yahoo." We often put up blog links in that spot when it makes sense to do so.For crying out loud, I wasn't saying Rasor is "any yahoo." Good grief. I was saying that "any yahoo" can leave comments on his blog. Which is true.
  9. On the front page of Ohio.com they now have a link to a story on Bain. I clicked it and it directs you to Rasor's blog. I don't know if that's a good idea having a link on the front page of Ohio.com to a blog story. The blog is there for rumors and speculations as well as for any yahoo (myself included) to throw in their 2-cents worth.I hope the ABJ sends Gaffney to the football offices to finally write a real report about this situation. Put some effort into this story ABJ and give us some facts!
  10. Wow! Good job! Now that's some A-quality research!
  11. Dude, I don't know who you are or how you did that, but those uniforms are amazing! Great work!
  12. I voted Akron by more than 10 because our defense is clicking and our offense will cut through BUGS pathetic D like a knife through butter!
  13. Ouch. What awful news. Rasor states that his UA career is likely over. But if Bain is only a junior this year, wouldn't he get to play his senior season if he tests clean? And does anyone know what the banned substance is? Andro?
  14. If you haven't seen it yet, there is a guy who is now doing a monthly blog on the Stadium at GoZips.com. Here is the link http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPS...;ATCLID=1597514By the way one of the ABJ Trolls referred the the Stadium as InfoPrison - I like it - Take No Prisoners! That disappoints me and, frankly, blows my mind. I can't believe that anyone even mildly concerned about Akron's future would be anything less than thrilled with this new stadium project and the overall direction of UA. No wonder they've come to be known as Trolls.
  15. Has our high school recruiting been comparatively slow in gaining momentum this year? And, if so, do you think it may be due to the fact that we've been so successful with transfer and JUCO players that JD may be putting more time/effort into those recruits? Maybe it's just me and maybe I'm not remember previous recruiting seasons accurately?
  16. Heeeey now, easy cowperson. I never said nor implied that in any way, shape or form. So don't accuse me of that. Thank you. Also, look above, I never said beanies were for boys.Additionally, as far as knowing our mascot, I'm fairly certain that generally a female cheerleader is inside Zippy - an easier lift for the other cheerleaders. Finally, I can't believe it was actually said that the Wikipedia information trumps UA's! Don't ever try telling a professor that one for any research writing assignment! Here you go, even more evidence. How much do we need? I'm sorry the truth seems to be so disappointing to some on the board. But don't kill the messenger! (And don't unfairly accuse the messenger of sexism either ) Go Zips!
  17. Any "Heat Miser" reference is golden IMO!That got me thinking in a little more abstract sense. How about.....The BG Logo of Just a Few Years AgoAnd The Partridge Family Logo?I was thinking the same! Heat Miser would have never come to mind! Priceless! Heat Miser, Jim Nabors, The Evil Krang?! And now The Partridge Family?! This thread is quite brilliant! Hilarious.
  18. Aaaaaah! Widipedia does in deed list poor Zippy as a female! How embarrassing! Oh, well, that's a perfect example of the misinformation one can expect from Wikipedia! As well put in American Dad...Stan: "If only there was a place that you could make any outrageous claim you want with absolutely no proof, and millions of people would accept it as fact."Steve: "That's it! Wikipedia!"Or, as The Office makes perfectly clear, only Michael Scott considers Wikipedia to be a reliable source of information! Here's yet another piece from a more reliable source... The University of Akron! Zippy's no shemale!!! Back up off the poor guy, you pervs! Zippy don't swing that way! Now, the Golden flush on the other hand...
  19. Zippy is irrefutably a boy! Shame on you guys! No guy likes to be confused with a girl. You guys are going to make Zippy embarrassed to show his face at the Rubberbowl on Saturday! Here is even more proof of Zippy's manhood!. (Poor Zippy, I'm sure his fragile male ego has taken enough of a beating as it is!) That is, unless Zippy is a lesbian? ...
  20. People, people, people, Zippy is a boy! If you were a college student creating a kangaroo mascot, would it have crossed your mind that, technically, a male kangaroo shouldn't have a pouch?! No way. If you're creating a kangaroo mascot it's gonna have a pouch. In fact, it never crossed my mind, till it was pointed out about a year ago, that technically, Zippy shouldn't have a pouch. It's simply a delightful anomoly! Here's a touching documentary on The Real Zippy Enjoy!
  21. Now this was a great commercial. It's very well done and almost gives you goosebumps! Unfortunately, I don't believe I ever saw it anywhere other than Youtube.
  22. Oh, another thing. We really could commission our marketing and graphic design students to pump the programs. I have a friend who was a graphic design student @ UA and did jaw-dropping work. The students put a lot of pride, time and effort into their projects - obviously not what we've been getting from whoever put that shameful commercial together. That "Be A Part From The Start" music is an abomination!
  23. Your idea is a good idea! Unfortunately, it's strength is it's weakness; our marketing department doesn't "do" good ideas.Btw, I was watching that "Be A Part From The Start" commercial on YouTube last night and was just marveling at how spectacularly AWFUL it is. If the goal was to pull The University of Akron down to the level of Stark State, well that commercial certainly does the trick! It is criminally bush-league.
  24. This topic was tossed around a bit in the Penn State vs. Akron 2009 thread, but there were about 3-to-4 different conversations taking place in that thread, so I thought I'd start a new one. I know a move to the Big East would be supreme and a "no brainer" - let's not start fighting over that term here But I'm not too sold on C-USA. I'd as soon stay in the MAC than make a move to C-USA. I really like the MAC and our rivalries with Ohio, Miami & Can't. I love to hate those guys and I look forward to those games every year. It pains me when we lose to them and I'm thrilled when we beat them. I honestly think I'd really miss those games if we jumped conferences. I know I'm a total Zips homeboy and so my judgement is clouded. So my question is this: would jumping to C-USA be a good move for the Zips? The added travel expense would be enormous and we wouldn't have any natural rivals, save, perhaps Marshall. Is my liking Ohio, Miami and Can't only a product of following the Zips over the past howevermany years, or are those genuinely good rivalries? I think they're quite natural. I don't know. Right now, given the choice between C-USA and the MAC, I say stay in the MAC! Thoughts?
  25. Speaking of Jalil Carter, did anyone see the pics on GoZips.com of the game where they had this shot of him leaping to block Can't's final field goal? I think the only reason he missed blocking it was because it was so far right? Man, what an athlete. http://uaim.dyndns.info/photo_galleries/_A...e/100408640.htmLink doesn't seem to work so here is the photo I was referring to.Lord have mercy, look @ that vertical!!! He's a freak! To answer CK's question about where Jalil's been thus far this season, wasn't he battling a little injury earlier in the year? And, yeah, I love Tyler Campbell too, but Jalil is a future NFL player. What do we have, 5 years running w/ a player selected in the 1st 4 rounds? Well, this year it's going to be B-Will. Next year it's Bowser. The following year is Jalil. The year after that, DeVoe Torrence. That'll make 9 years running! Go Zips!
