Not talking smack, but in all honesty, why wouldn't they? It'd be a good move for them. They'd probably do quite well @ that level (though their recruiting would drop off a bit from where it is now) and they wouldn't have to put up w/ weekly humiliations. Their program is literally an embarassment to their university. Again, I'm not talking smack, I'm being real. And as far as competing w/ us in football?... honestly, the death bell tolls for their program and I really believe their decision makers have to know this. The Info is going to give us some of the finest facilities in the entire nation, bar none, and have our sights set on moving up to a bigger conference. Moving down a level wouldn't be a bad move on their part. We could still play them once a year (I like the rivalry) but they'd have a lot more success at D-1AA.

Don't worry about PG. Humpty was a better PG last year as a senior in high school than either Dials or Ced (bless those guys; they're both natural 2-G's.) If we had Humpty running the point last year we would have beaten UMass in the NIT.

I just saw this article on Dante. It's by Rivals.com but I saw it on the front page of Yahoo.http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...p&type=lgns
-
This is going to be emotionally devastating to Dante. I hope his family and friends circle around and give him the unconditional support he's going to need over the next couple of years.
-
Agreed! I liked our 4 DL look against Army. IMHO the most disruptive thing a defense can do is put pressure on the QB - even if they don't get a sack all night, disrupting the QB's rhythm and the timing of both passing and running plays is vital. I watch the 3-3-5 and just see most of our players at least 3 yards off the line of scrimmage waiting for the RB to get to them. It very rarely produces tackles for loss.To give JD and his staff credit where credit is due, I thought the D played great against Army and I really appreciaed their flexibility to make the adjustment to the 4 down linemen!
-
If that happens again this year it will really demonstrate that Kelley is a much better coach than JD. Kelley (and his staff) made some very real and effective in-game adjustments 2 years ago while the Zips made, as far as we could all tell, absolutely none. IMO, in-game adjustments are one of the more important qualities of a good coach (and staff) & we've had some mild rumblings around ZipsNation about our lack of them.
-
I didn't catch that! What all were they saying about it?
-
To any Ball State fans reading this board, can you please keep us updated on Dante's condition and recovery? It would be greatly appreciated by everyone here @ ZipsNation. Thanks. Be assured he and his family are in my prayers.

FYI, the Ball State - Indiana game is on the Big Ten Network tonight starting at 7:00.

I thought this was a good question. I don't know how it compares to other football stadiums, but this afternoon I walked by Canal Park and counted the rows there. There were 20 rows in Canal Park as well. So either there is a standard they are following, or they wanted to give the lower bowl the same dimensions as Canal Park. Good decision IMO. Canal Park's dimensions are great.

Just walked by the stadium again today. This is the first I've walked by now that the final steel beams are in place for the upper press box and all I can say is WOW!!! Honestly, it looks huge! It looks big time all the way! It's going to be a very impressive structure.

Yesss! I'm finally going to be able to make this week's viewing party @ the OBC. And I'm bringing some friends! What beers do you guys recommend from the OBC?

Alex Allen - ouch. I had thought that he HAD NOT broken his hip. So that's really bad news.Bain being out for the rest of the season? 300 pounds of ouch. Did he fracture a bone in his foot, or what? I believe the only info we can get is that he has a "foot injury." What's that mean? And is it college football's policy to keep the public in the dark concerning players' injuries because they're afraid it may effect a players' draft status? Otherwise, why all the secrecy?

Excellent pics! Thank you for the effort! Go Zips!

I've come to the realization......
Blue & Gold replied to jstoudemire's topic in Akron Zips Football
Bowser's the man! There is no doubt about that! But this group of 4 WR's (Bowser, Bruce, Jones & D.Miller) are the best "stable" of wideouts I can ever remember suiting up for the ol' Zippers. I don't know, some old timers may remember a better WR crew, but I sure can't & I started watching Zips football closely during Lee Owen's first season (whatever year that was; 1993 maybe?) -
Please, a local homeboy who wears Yankee hats to Indians games, hangs out on the Cowboys sidelines with T.O. in dallas colors during the Browns Game and then sits on the sidelines with USC at the Ohio State/USC game, not so much a homeboy to me!Uh, hello. He's not from Cleveland and he's not from Columbus! He's from, uh, let me think... oh, yeah... AKRON! Yep, he's a genuine homeboy. Go Zips!Wow, what a great answer, ask around, I am sure people will tell you they are pretty much sick of how Mr. James has been acting lately, unless maybe he likes all the attention?I don't know. LBJ may like the attention, or he may think nothing of it. Who knows? The only thing I do know is that I've loved every minute of how Mr. James "has been acting lately,"!!! Keep on keepin' it real Bron-Bron!

Wow! It looks like they're almost doubling the height of the current structure!

If/when the football schools split from the basketball-only members, will the football schools retain the name "Big East," or will the basketball-only schools keep the name and the football schools be required to come up w/ a new label? And I was looking at the list of potential candidates for the football Big East, and maybe they'd think of adding more than 4 schools? Is that out of the question? Could they add UCF, Memphis, Buffalo, UA, and for the sake of argument, UMass and Temple as well? The new conference would then have 14 members and be a pretty tough conference:CincyUConnL'villePittRutgersSouth Florida'CuseWest VirginiaUMassTempleUCFMemphisBuffaloAkronAnd don't you think Memphis may be a little too far to the west? All that travel may end up killing them.

Vote on fans expectations from the beginning of the season
Blue & Gold replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
I voted, "Better than I thought." Jac has really surprised me! He really has been playing much, much better than last season. Also, the new batch of WR's are what I had my fingers crossed they would be. I know, Jeremy Bruce didn't have a good game against Ball State, but he remains a very real threat and one of the best players on the team. Dashawn (sp?) Miller also had an unfortunate drop against BSU, but he's an excellent receiver as well. In fact, this is the best group of receivers I can ever remember seeing: Bowser, Jones, Bruce & Miller! Wow! Owen's not bad either! Also, the OL is playing much better than they did last season. And, like our group of WR's, I also believe this is the best stable of RB's I can ever remember. We're stacked on O.D? I do love watching B-Will out there though!!! -
Check out Rasor's blog. He summarizes Nike's new contract w/ UA. Very interesting stuff! Once again, LeBron proves to be a truly loyal homeboy and first class gentleman! Rock on LBJ & go Zips!!!http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/

In order to perk us back up after our tough loss to an incredibly talented, NFL draft-ladden, Ball State team:We've got a lot going for us in our athletic department! I think we'd have a ton to offer the Big East:1. Don't look now (well, yeah, go ahead and look now) but our women's volleyball team just beat Syracuse. That gives our women's volleyball team wins over Air Force, North Carolina State and both Rutgers and Syracuse of the Big East.2. Our women's soccer team is off to a 5-0 start! That is a very young program that apparently has tremendous upside!3. As we all know, our men's soccer program is now one of the nation's finest! 4. Our new soccer stadium will be one of the nation's finest, incorporated gorgeously with the new "outdoor living room."5. The Info opening next season! Going to be one of the nicest, most asthetically pleasing stadiums in the country!6. The fieldhouse is presently one of the nations finest facilities which is currently used by the Big East for their indoor track championships.7. Our men's basketall program is skyrocketing.8. LeBron's a Zips fan!!!!!IF, IF, IF our football team can become a MAC power, I think it'd be impossible for this university not to be coveted by the Big East.

As far as I know, the only people chirping at the Rubber Bowl were a group of three of us... and we all sat in General Admission around the 35 behind BSU's bench. By the way, that area was almost ENTIRELY BSU... That's the reason we were sitting there...The vast majority of the comments we said were directed at our own team. Hell, we were sitting back predicting the exact play Hoke would call for the majority of the second half because he randomly goes on riffs of conservative offense that is EXTREMELY frustrating and predictable to watch. Shoot we were doing the chirp, singing the fight song, and other assorted BSU-related things...Is that to say we didn't launch a comment or two at Akron? Of course we did. The cheerleaders spelled Akron wrong after yall scored a TD (it was spelled "Akorn"). And the people who left early obviously got an earful, and we do that at home games. BSU was one of the worst teams in the country three years ago, and I never left early. Hell, I didn't even leave when CMU throttled us last season. And for the record, we were really going at the fans wearing OSU gear because I think wearing that at another school's game is unacceptable. We deal with that bull at our games too except its both OSU and the festering pit that is Notre Dame (especially).Yeah, I was sitting toward the top of that section, just above you guys, and all the Ball State fans I saw were totally cool.

P-Mac is very fair in this story, telling everyone how talented Ball State is and mentioning that Akron's wideouts should have come up with a number of passes that were dropped. Also mentions 3 deflections for INT's. http://www.ohio.com/news/top_new/28353164.html

Head injury?? leg??Don't know yet. HIPAfter the game I guess he was on the sideline in street clothes talking w/ Joe Dunn. His hip's not broken - as they first feared; don't know how long he'll be out though.
