  1. Elton is correct about the Zips never being overall MAC champs - only MAC East champs. I've got a Can't State alum friend and we go to games together- he prefers the Can't State games while I prefer the Zips games. But he not so subtly pointed that out to me one night. What could I say... he was right! Zeke's gonna change all that!
  2. I was recently at the Marlington high school graduation ceremony and 2 of their 4 valedictorians are going to attend UA in the fall! Two years ago 3 of the 4 Waterloo high school valedictorians enrolled at UA.
  3. Nice pics once again! One response to your post read, "Keep these threads coming!" And then asked the question, "Is the Mayflower currently occupied?" I cringed and then rolled my eyes at that one. If only he knew the clientele of the Mayflower...Also, does the UA school of culinary arts have any plans of opening a nice, semi-formal, student-run restaurant in the beautiful Quaker SqUAre? It's a beautiful landmark structure and I'd be disappointed if it weren't utilized in some open-to-the-public dining/retail capacity.
  4. GoZips, thanks for sifting out the MAC players for us; interesting stuff! I've said it before and I'll say it again, Humpty Hitchens is literally one of the very best high school players I've ever seen! Now, to qualify that statement, I must be honest and say that I have only seen him play twice, and on tv at that. But having said that, he is the quickest player I've ever seen, can go left or right and can stop-and-pop on a dime - it's indefensible & sick & will make your jaw drop. I can't wait to see Humpty sporting the new Nike/LBJ23 blue & gold uni's!!!
  5. Dude, that's very cool that you're writing for Scout! But I couldn't access either article w/o a membership.
  6. I like the new marks. On a tragic side note, the front page of the MAC website now reads, "New Logo... Same Success." Uh, oh!
  7. Those commercials were excellent! Top notch in both conception and execution; impressive originality, creativity and production. Wow, I was embarrassed about our bush-league, cheese-covered-meatball "Be A Part From The Start" commercial and jingle but man, after watching those, now I just want to go shoot myself.
  8. OUTSTANDING JOB ZIPSRIFLE!!! Great collection of pictures! I didn't know the arches outside of the Student Wellness Center were remnants from the old Spicer School! Also, I believe that the two renderings shown of the new apartment/retail complex on Main Street are both accurate renderings. The first (your picture number 5) is of the northeast corner of the site - looking southwest, whereas the second rendering (your picture number 6) is of the opposite corner of the site; southwest corner looking northeast. The only way I could tell was by the fact that the current 8-story building which they are leaving standing - that houses that Japanese restaurant - is in a different location in each shot. In picture #5 the building is to the right of the picture; in picture #6 it is to the left.
  9. Yes, well, I remember meeting Frank Stams at the Hula Bowl, along with Lou Holtz after Notre Dame's national title. He was REALLY enthusiastic, and happy to see my AKRON tee-shirt. But I remember he was smaller than my own 6' and well under 200 lbs. Wasn't he a linebacker? Lou Holtz looked more like a player. You're saying Frank Stamms was surprisingly small? I saw Frank Stamms recently at Prestwick C.C. He's huge! I'll bet he's at least 6'3" and 230.
  10. I'm not able to view the cameras either and I've not had any trouble since they went live.
  11. I was just as excited about the Morgan brothers (Christian and Marco) signing with Akron as just about any two athletes I can remember, as I watched both dominate in high school. But at this level neither one of them ended up panning out at all.
  12. God Bless LeBron. This quote got me stoked as well. I hope everyone realizes the magnitude of that statement and the sentiment behind it. Jeez, that sounded preachy - sorry. That one sentence is worth more in national publicity to UA than a decade's worth of advertising. This U has to take advantage of any connection we have with LeBron. Not only is he the most famous basketball player in the world, but the best as well (the Celtics - Lakers series really showed that IMHO.)Does anyone know when the new merchandise becomes available? New shoes, home jerseys, away jerseys, alternate jerseys, shorts, away shorts, alternate shorts, warm ups - where's my credit card; I want one of each!Screw THE Columbus State University! I'm from Akron, and so is my homeboy LeBron!
  13. Thanks for keeping the board moving, CK. It's been slow. Can't wait for September!!!
  14. Ha! The new division names are humorously confusing. Humorous... and aggravating. They reek of political correctness. I still am not sure what Akron's division is called as opposed to what YSU's division is called. Here's the simple all-too-uncommon-sense solution:Akron's division should be Division 1. YSU's division should be Division 2. Grand Valley State's division should be Division 3. And Mount Union's division should be Division 4. What poor man's think tank has failed to figure this out?
  15. Finally a little more movement in camera #2; most of the recent action has been in camera #1. Looks like they're digging some sort of trench.
  16. Dude, you rock. Thanks for all the great pictures of campus and the stadium complex!
  17. Does anyone know whether the game is to be televised locally?
  18. Our erection has now lasted for more than 4 hours! Should we call a doctor?
  19. I'm signed on but still get the Error message.
  20. I like the idea of keeping the Mayflower IF, IF, AND ONLY IF it can be converted to a dormitory for UA students or apartmental units. Just telling it like it is, but the crowd that resides there now is an absolutely perfect way of keeping young people & families w/ money to spend OUT of the immediate area.
  21. I believe Zipmeister is correct. I've heard all hardwood floors are maple. But I wouldn't know what color of stain they used. Probably just a "Natural" stain.
  22. Thanks for the info. I'm all for scheduling as many A-10 opponents as possible. That's right in our class. More specifically, IMO we're stronger than 1/2 of the A-10 and right about even w/ the top 1/2 of the A-10 - Temple, UMass, Rhody, St. Joe's, Dayton & Xavier.
  23. 2007 Fun Stats: - Third quarter scoring: Opponents 102 – Akron 37- Punt return average: Akron 13.6 yards – Opponents 9 yards- Average yards per game: Opponents 408.8 yards – Akron 311.7 yardsThe first of the "Fun Stats" is the one that concerns me about JD as a head coach. I think JD's a great recruiter (the most important part of being a successful college coach?) and seems to be a really good "players" coach. I like JD and hope he's our coach for a long time. But the "Third quarter scoring" differential, in my oppinion, exposes a troubling lack of ability to make in-game adjustments. It seems as though the other team's coaching staff goes into the locker room at halftime, analyzes what changes they have to make and then the team successfully executes them. We, on the other hand, seem to have our game plan carved in stone before kickoff and we either live or die by it.
  24. Lolla was the man, but Caleb seems to really be taking this program to a much, much higher level than even Lolla had it. I do suppose Lolla deserves the credit for laying the groundwork to make this ascention possible. Isn't Caleb Porter a Mack Rhodes hire? If so, then Mack definitely deserves a ton of credit for this particular hire. For all the grief Mack gets on this board, it seems as thought he couldn't have picked a better coach than Caleb.
  25. Hey CK, I'm just getting a blank page from the above link.
