They're called "trolls". They do it because it the only way they can get their kicks is to piss other people off. They like to create reactions, possibly because it is the only way they know how to get other people to aknowledge their existance. Their situation is a sad one, being the lowest of internet life-forms.Ha! Spot-on description. They are truly pathetic.

Uh, when JD says CJ's really been "progressing nicely" (a painfully relative statement to begin with), what goes through your mind? By this point in time don't you just cringe a bit? In your heart of hearts wouldn't you actually be surprised if JD turned out to be right and CJ has progressed into a QB that can take us into contention for a MAC East championship? Yeah, me too. Also, JD saying that the play was "sloppy" and that he was "disappointed" is being pessimistic. That's all fine and good. But bringing up all the injuries rings of a front-loaded excuse to me. And it very well is a legitimate excuse, aren't most? But it is an excuse none-the-less and I'm tired of excuses; I'm more than ready for this team to just start winning. Go Zips!
-
How do you get excuses out of his comments? How much more straightforward can he be? Man, if the guy blew anymore smoke up our butts it would be coming out our ears! No, no, no my friend. JD only blows smoke up our butts when he keeps telling us all how much CJ has been progressing. The quote that rings of "excuse," is neither of the two you mentioned above, naturally. Here's the ringer:"Our injury situation is killing us. I have no idea where we are at right now because of that.''Technically, I'm sure it's true. But... This quote wouldn't be so bad if it were coming from someone w/ a proven track record. But having listened to all of JD's excuses last season, and now this, eh, it seems to be a developing trend, don't 'cha think? After last year's losses I know we all got just a little bit tired of JD repeating things like, "We would have won if only the ball had bounced this way on this play...," and "We would have won if only the ball had bounced that way on that play..." That was a recurring theme last season and those are shaky apologetics that fans are supposed to employ, not head coaches. So yeah, this quote does in fact raise a flag.I had a friend who would have a built-in excuse everytime we'd play pick up ball. "I'll play but my hamstring is tight." "I'll play but I tweaked my ankle last night." I'll play but I only got 3 hours of sleep last night." He had a built-in excuse for failure before we even checked the ball in. So, yeah, after hearing JD's excuses last year and now that quote this year... yup, red flag.

Yep. I think that was the major problem w/ our D last season. 3-and-outs for the O are both physically draining and psychologically demoralizing for a D.
-
I haven't yet read the article in today's ABJ, but I don't like the sound of the quotes you posted. JoPa could use that negative motivation because he had superior athletes under him, I think that'd be a big mistake w/ CJ and MR - they need all the positive affirmation they can get. Also, those quotes aren't sounding like constructive criticism or hyperbolic 'the-sky-is-falling' fare, ala JoPa (Lou Holtz used to do the same at ND). These quotes sound like excuses - and the season hasn't even started yet.

End of Summer Rankings.....
Blue & Gold replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Amen! You're an awesome part of this family!!! -
That would be the best answer. It's a breath taking facility and right across the street from the future LeBron/Nike Akron Arena!!!

It's funny you guys mention a baseball stadium. I watched quite a bit of the College World Series this year and for the first time it really struck me how behind-the-times our baseball facility is. IMO Both Walsh and Malone's baseball facilities are as nice, if not nicer than ours. I'm hoping we have plans to put a new baseball stadium on acquired property SOUTH of Exchange. I know it'd be nice having the football stadium, soccer stadium, softball stadium and baseball stadium all adjacent to each other but it's getting awfully crowded in there. I don't think there is really much room for a grandstand where the baseball facility is presently located.Again, perhaps I'm regionally biased or myopic, but I think there is a lot of high school baseball talent in NEO. If we'd have a nice facility who knows what we could do, because our team is pretty good now! If we could simply sign most of the best players from Summit & Stark I think we'd be pretty good! I don't know, that may be naive.

It's going to be gorgeous! Again, just what this entire city needs! The more water the better. It looks as if there will be a grand total of 6 (six!) sources of water in the new commons! The fountains are not just asthetically pleasing but will add an audible tranquility to the area. 10 on a scale of 1-10!And this will be directly adjacent to our new soccer stadium. I'm interested to see how/if they plan on incorporating the two areas. We could wind up having the most beautiful soccer stadium area on planet earth!Off topic, but look how beautiful the surroundings are at the U of Dayton's stadium: http://daytonflyers.cstv.com/facilities/BaujanField.htmlLooking @ many programs' athletic sites, I found Dayton's facility to be far-and-away the most asthetic. Ours could rival that.

Dix Stadium Vandalized?
Blue & Gold replied to johnnyzip84's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Good! You had me worried there for a second! -
Thanks for bumping it up! And she is looking impressive! Also, strickly technically speaking, I don't think what we're looking at in Cam 1 is actually the press tower - I think that is currently only the upper echelon of the grandstand! I think the actual press tower will be another 3-4 stories higher than what were presently seeing in Cam 1! She's gonna make us proud!

I can comprehend it. I was an OSU fan until they won the National Championship. I was an OSU fan through all the Cooper years. The reason I am not a fan now, is because of all the front runners plain and simple. So yes I want to see OSU fail. Not out of jealousy. (Do you really think any of us grew up a Zips fan? No we are all indoctrinated with who our families root for.) No, I want to see them fail so I don't have to see them in my home town paper everyday, so I don't have to see a bunch of pop colored douchebags running around with OSU gear they picked up even though they are attending OU, Miami, Can't, and yes Akron. I don't like people who are fans of winners because they are winners. Like the Indians fans of the late 90's who never even stepped foot into Muni. The only issue I have with you, is the fact that you come on here talking OSU. It's a Zip board. Unless we are playing, or we get a transfer OSU should not be mentioned on this board. They have nothing to do with us. And everyone on here that absolutely hates them (for what ever reason they have) has a right to hate them, whether it's jealousy, because they weren't accepted, or because they are shoved down our throats day in and day out and called great, when they (and any BCS school for that matter) only play, at most, a total of 5 really good schools the entire year.Fantastic post.. So posters here can call out OSU fans and they can call OSU names, but if anyone defends that, they are the enemy. Thanks for posting the rules.GREAT IDEA!!! I also think these should be the rules! All in favor? I agree... since this is a ZIPS' board and all. Go Zips... everyone else can burn!

That is part of the problem. We don't really have a scheme for any QB to run.Ouch. Sadly, that's sure what it looked like last season.
-
I agree. I'm quite unqualified to make talent evaluations, but DT didn't blow me away when I saw him @ RB. IMHO I've seen quite a few more natural RB's just over the last few years from Akron-area high schools alone - Tyrell Sutton, B-Will, Beanie (goes w/out saying) Delone Carter, Morgan Williams, Jordan Mabin... and those are just off the top of my head. In fact, the young man who was supposed to succeed Gamble in Massillon but had his spot taken by DT was also a very fine RB (I hear he ended up at Walsh.) But that's beside the point. Anyway....at 6-2, 210 I say move him to LB! We don't need him @ RB.
-
BFH--Get the hell off this board...Screw Beanie....Go spend your time on tosu's board.I have never seen BFH hassle us either, unlike Buckzip or that other idiot that used to be on here all the time. Hey I know Wells is a OSU player, but I hope he wins the Heisman sometime too. That's because I am an Akron Public Schools graduate and it would be huge for the community where he grew up (Garfield; Firestone Park). Plus just like that jerk-off Tebow proved, you can win the Heisman on a sucky team.I've got mixed feelings on Beanie winning the Heisman. It would truly be bitter sweet. I'd love to see someone from Garfield, or any Akron or Summit County school win the Heisman, but I'd loathe seeing a Columbus State player do it. Tyrell Sutton for Heisman?! Bryan Williams for Heisman?! If Beanie could rush for 5,000 yards this year & win the Heisman but OSU go 0-12, THAT would be my dream scenario. And btw - Tim Tebow is one of the most excellent people one could ever hope to meet. He could have a different Gator slut every night, but he is one totally straight-and-narrow dude. Never says anything negative about his fellow players or coaches, is always positive, never foul-mouthed, the consumate team leader and after he plays in the NFL he wants to be a missionary to the Philippines and also open a shelter in New Orleans. I've never seen someone so young and talented be so mature and humble. I wish he was a Zip!
-
If you talked with a Columbus State fan and asked them what they'd think if the Columbus Dispatch almost entirely ignored the Buckeyes but ran almost daily coverage of, say, the Cincinnati Bearcats, they couldn't even begin to know what they'd think because they literally couldn't imaging that bizarre scenario. Well, welcome to our reality. Disgusting to the high heavens. Though there was a nice article on the beginning of Zips' camp in yesterday's paper. I keep hoping for a revolution w/in the ABJ. This community needs it.
-
I don't think he's a D-1 caliber player. More like Malone or Walsh. Hopefully he'll transfer after sitting the bench for a year. I strikes me the wrong way to think of a Joyce wearing a Can't jersey.
-
Those properties are going to block the construction of the new residence halls, correct? IMO the residence halls add a lot to the stadium's ambience in the architectural renderings. That jury really shot this community in the foot. 3 million dollars for slum lord urban blight?
-
I agree. As I look at our roster I'm truly impressed. I think we've got the talent equivalent of any non-elite Big 10 school. But it will all come down to QB play: if we see the same QB play as we did last year then we'll finish at the bottom of the MAC East; if we receive (much) better QB play then we can win the Motor City Bowl.Last year really opened my eyes as to the true vitality of the QB. Unless you've got Barry Sanders there's just no getting around lousy QB play.
-
that should be it's own thread, a thread where everyone posts zips stories so we can all comment on them and make the papers see that we want zips coverage and not can't state articles. That's a good idea. Now that you mention it, I was looking at Syracuse's Scout.com forum and they have a daily thread for news stories involving the university and its athletics, and posting comments in the links is encouraged.I second that. It's a great idea that is so seemingly obvious I'm surprised we didn't think of that years ago!
-
I think you hit the nail on the head - I see him playing one of our hybid positions (Rover, Sam or Bandit - whatever the heck those things are.) At RB he's surely no better than Pinky Johnson, and if Pinky is 3rd string going into camp... well, you get the picture. I think DT would serve the team much better on the defensive side of the ball.
-
Well put. As I look at our roster I really think we are quite stacked with talent - except for the all-important QB position. If we get the same QB play we received last year then we'll finish near the bottom of the MAC East; if we get good QB play then we'll win the MACC. IMHO.
-
And some people on here always think we are a lot better than we are.I doubt we beat Syracuse. I think we lose by at least 14.I agree. As much as I hate to say it and as I am well aware of how down the 'Cuse is presently, we were just so awful last year that I'd have to consider beating the 'Cuse an upset.
-
I'm also excited to see Swiech out there! I used to enjoy watching Swiech shake hands w/ the other teams following games last year - he usually dwarfed anyone on the opposing team! I absolutely loved Jeremiah Wood but I can't wait to get a 6-10, 250, long-armed body out there!!!
