  1. Never mind, I just saw the Roberts post further down the page. Yeah, Roberts was 1st Team D-1 All-Ohio PG last year!!! I was excited about him last year but he didn't end up graduating from high school, or something ridiculous like that, so he was, needless to say, ineligible. He would be a TREMENDOUS addition!!!
  2. Who the heck is Roberts? This is the first I've heard him mentioned.
  3. There is a Steve & Barry's in Alliance and though I haven't been to the store recently, it was full of Zips gear before Christmas.
  4. When was that article in the paper? I tried to endorse the article by voting for it at the bottom of the page, but I was denied. It said I could only vote on today's or yesterday's stories.Q: Why didn't the Beacon cover this?!?!Q: Was there any coverage in the Canton Suppository?Observation: The Massillon Indy seems to be giving us pretty good coverage. They also recently ran a very nice story concerning the plans for our new stadium.
  5. Just my opinion, but I think a John Williams show would be a lot of fun! A few pages back I posted an idea for a popular movie score show and listed Star Wars, Superman and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Those are all the work of John Williams, aren't they? That would rock, everyone would be familiar with the music, and all of those scores would kinda get people excited too (it's what they were designed to do!)And when we start our new pre-game band rally at the JAR, we should stick with some John Williams fare!
  6. I've never seen a team quit on (and apparently despise) a head coach like Hipsher's team did. A team featuring talents such as Ryan Andrick, Jimmal Ball and Jamie Bosley. Something was not right there.
  7. You're probably right. But after surfing the net and looking at other arenas in cities similar in population with Akron, I believe a 12,000 seat facility would be appropriate. Akron is a rather large metropolitan area, but we truly lack a quality civic center/arena facility. I believe a facility like this would be beneficial to the entire city, and could possibly be constructed in such a manner as to connect with the John S. Knight Convention Center. However, it should be designed with various seating arrangments, so as to make possible the draping off of the upper sections, so that when the lower bowl alone is used, it has a capacity of around 7000. Just my thoughts. Arenas I checked out were: Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids Michigan - capacity: 12,000 Dunkin Donuts Center, Providence, RI - capacity: 14,500Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, CT - capacity: 16,295Other great arenas:University of Rhode Island's new Ryan Center - capacity: 7,657University of Pittsburgh's Peterson Events Center - capacity: 12,500 (my personal favorite!)
  8. When Huggins was at Cincy the Sucks categorically refused to ever play Cincy. However, now that Huggie Bear is gone, and Cincy's really struggling right now, well, what do ya know, the Sucks will be glad to play 'em. Screw OSU.
  9. I disagree. High step and swing can sound good: watch this1990 pregame video Man! I got goosebumps just watching that on my little computer screen!!! Too cool! If that doesn't give you pumped up nothing will! Holy Big Crowd Batman! I was thinking the same thing! Did you guys notice the crowd in the 1990 pregame video?! If JD can string a couple championship seasons together, along with the new stadium, I believe we should definitely have that kind of support again... and more! What led to the pitiful attendance dropoff? Would you guys say it was solely the losing under Lee Owens?
  10. I've felt the same way for about 12 years now. I know, I know, the band has officially been called "Ohio's Pride" since before history began, but that label is one tradition that should mercifully be put out of its misery. It just doesn't fit... AT ALL! It only makes people roll their eyes. It's embarassing, really.Akron's Pride would be much, much better. And as far as high stepping: could the band high step their way onto the field for pregame and then march conventionally during the rest of the show?
  11. No offense at all, but I sincerely hope that as soon as the honeymoon period wears off from our new football stadium (3 years?), we immediately get back to business and begin plans for a new basketball arena. We desperately need both. One quality facility at a time. Besides, with a new football stadium, if our football team doesn't start turning a profit, which it probably will, at the very least it should break about even. So the new football stadium should free up and generate $$$ for a new basketball arena. As an aside, I still say we switch over to Nike asap and get LeBron (who has absolutely remained genuine and stayed loyal to his hometown) to get Nike to help build the Nike/LeBron Akron Arena. A larger-than-life LeBron statue outside the main entrance would be more than fitting!
  12. Imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery. But that kangaroo looks so much like our Fear the Roo kangaroo, good grief, that has to be some sort of copyright infringement, no?
  13. I disagree. High step and swing can sound good: watch this1990 pregame video Man! I got goosebumps just watching that on my little computer screen!!! Too cool! If that doesn't give you pumped up nothing will!
  14. I just went back over to Pluto's column to see if any of you were stepping up to the plate and leaving a reply and I think they erased the comments I had left. What's up with that? I left one comment defending Nate Linhart. One comment supporting Zips coverage and one comment with some info on Steward and McKnight. None of the 3 comments were very long at all. So why would they have erased them? Unless I'm going mad?
  15. I've heard CB as well. They're afraid he may be a bit undersized to play RB at the D-1 level. But he's a perfect CB! Amazing athlete!
  16. Kazoos rock.Script "Zips" absolutely does not rock. NO RIP OFFS!"Heeeeey baby, I wanna know if you'll be my girl," rocks. And as for a name for our own skull session, we should call it "The Billabong!"It's cool, it's aussie, it fits with the roo motif. It's cool.
  17. Hey 'Nation. Get over to Pluto's column on Ohio.com and post a comment! (Or if someone could post the link here, that'd be great!) I was just over there and someone with the screen name Barry Bonds was trashing the Zips by saying that Pluto and the ABJ give them waaaaaaaay too much coverage! Can you believe it?!?! So naturally, I had to reply to that foolishness. I also added a little info about Steward and McKnight. But Pluto and the BJ certainly read through the replies and the more replies there are, they'll surely understand that there is interest in further Zips' coverage in the paper! So get over there and leave a comment to Terry's good article!
  18. Not bad! Hopefully ours will have more exposed brick and wrought iron fencing. Also, I believe that our stadium has plans for 10 loges. And perhaps some opera box seating? Whatever that is. Can't wait to see the final plans! I'll bet we're all happy with the design!
  19. Both Brett McKnight and Ronnie Steward earned spots on the 1st Team All-Ohio roster. Brett McKnight in D-1 and Ronnie Steward in D-2.Brett McKnight, 6-6, Lancaster, 26.6 ppgRonald Steward, 5-10, Columbus Eastmoor Academy, 20.3 ppgGo Zips!
  20. Say what? I love that chant, but I prefer the "Ziggy Zoggy Ziggy Zoggy Oy Oy Oy!" version of it. Likewise, say what? Ziggy Zoggy Ziggy Zoggy oy oy oy!? I've never heard that, but it's pretty funny! Maybe I'll start shouting that.
  21. I like the matchups with Kentucky and Indiana - better those two, than say, Florida and Michigan! If we play Big 10 and SEC schools, we should shoot for the schools we've got a 50/50 shot at beating, not the schools that we'd have to shock the world in order to beat.I like the UCONN matchup. It's a Big East opponent. It's an opponent of our caliber. It's definitely a winnable game. Hopefully UCONN is coming to Akron in '09.I like the CMU game. They're definitely not a West cupcake, but I'd rather pay $15 to see CMU than EMU! Even if EMU is an easy win, the CMU is a marquee MAC matchup and should be a good game! However, if we win the East and CMU wins the West, then we'd play CMU again just 8 days later in Detroit! Kinda wierd. How about getting a series going with Cincy? We've got a connection there, last year's game was a good game, and they're another Big East team of our caliber.
  22. How's it going Redleg? You must be new to the board? Nice to have you! They're going to place the new stadium north of Exchange Street, just west of the expressway. Between Exchange and the new fieldhouse. We're all waiting with baited breath for the architectural renderings!
  23. Great to have you here, Steve! Careful with what you read here, though. This board gives us a forum in which we can have knee-jerk reactions to anything and everything! You're going to really enjoy your time here at Akron! You'll find the students to be friendly and the fans to be die-hard supportive (some fans turn on their players when a team happens to be losing. I've never really found that to be the case here. Of course we all want to win, but if a player is playing hard and giving it his/her all, that's generally what we're most pleased with!)You're going to have fun, make friends, get a very good education, play close to home, be a part of a really cool team with a bunch of good guys, and help elevate this rising program to national recognition! We're all excited to meet you in person and to get to watch you rock the JAR!
  24. I agree with those wishing to see a return to the high-stepping swing style.I, however, DO like the white pants. I think they're sharp!Know what I dislike? The "Eat 'em up, eat 'em up, go Zips, go!" chant. I find it to be awfully hokey and I don't ever hear anyone actually join in on the chant. Could we possibly drop it?How does this sound for a halftime show: popular movie theme songs? Star Wars. Superman. Raiders of the Lost Ark. I know I'd be rocked! Also, once we build our new stadium and have skull-sessions in the JAR (though we should call 'em something else right?) I think the movie theme songs would be a cool theme. If you've been to a skull session at OSU, you'll see that they only do the fight song maybe twice. The rest of the time is filled up with songs most people don't know. Movie themes, however, would be cool and fun!
  25. Thanks KD! We love you and your team! We love Dru and Rome and Ced! We all can't wait for next season to begin!
