It certainly doesn't help our rankings when ALR is getting blown out by Texas Tech. I think the Zips would have made a better showing, but we will never know baring an NCAA tournament match up with TT. Of course its only half-time, maybe ALR will come back from the 28 point hole they have dug (yeah right!).At least the next mid-major poll isn't until Dec 4, so if we win all 3 of our games between now and then we shouldn't drop too much.

Do not dance, go directly to recruiting.
Zipgrad1990 replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Well unfortuntely they don't dance:http://www.ncaasports.com/soccer/mens/brac...t64_dyn/2006/DIHopefully the basketball team will though. -
This was the saddest excuse for a game I have ever seen by the Akron offense. One good quarter and they didn't show up for the remainder of the game. I think the announcers had it right when they said it looked like Akron was trying to not loose after the big first quarter.I bet our heavily loaded road schedule didn't help the team this season so far. 5 road games out of the first 6 is just horrible scheduling.
-
Even the announcers thought it was a bad spot!
-
20 unanswered points by Cincy! I think part of that is due to the Akron offenses inability to allow our defense to rest.

In retrospec, I agree. This isn't basketball after all. We only play what 8 MAC games? Season over, better luck next year. Where has Antonio Gates been? I guess he only comes out for basketball season. Well maybe this year is our year for BBall instead.

I guess this game and season so far has made that Steele guy look like a genius for picking Can't State to win the MAC East. Still lots of football this season to play. We will be 0-2 in the MAC but they were both road games. So we still have some hope. However we have lots of deficiencies in our team - no pass rush, poor pass coverage, poor kicking game, and too many boneheaded penalities.
-
Who is playing QB for Can't - Peyton Manning?
-
We haven't been able to get any pressure on any quarterback this year. What does the team have one sack all season long?I guess the only thing that stopped Can't on any drive is the fumble on the first drive. The D for Akron sucks. And even if Can't wins, I still say But apparently we suck too!
-
Two big penalities kept drives alive which led to eventual Can't State touchdowns. I am very disappointed by the Defense too. We are making Can't State look like a top 25 team. One bit of good news is other than last week, we have been a second half team when it comes to offense.

I thought the game was on TWC channel 23, but all I have is gold chains! Reminds me of 2 weeks ago.

Since the Zips haven't made the dance since I was a freshman in 1986, I think just making the dance in '07 is a worthy goal.BTW in '86 my Freshman English teacher made us come to class (or she was going to give us 5 unexcused absences which would lower your grade by 2 letters) so we only got to watch the first half of the Akron - Michigan first round match-up. At least Akron was winning at the half 32-30. But we missed all the second half except for the final 30 seconds or so when it was already decided. This still pisses me off even today, so another NCAA tournament appearance would really help me finally get over it!

Why does Akron play OSU away??
Zipgrad1990 replied to Dale Carnegie's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Yeah, that was my mistake. I assume by football you mean American football and I didn't notice that it was under the Akron Zips Soccer forum. I thought you were talking about next season when the Zips play the Buckeyes in football. In this case, OSU should be coming here so we can kick their ass and send them home!No big paydays in soccer as far as I know, but then again they don't need money from us as their soccer team can take some of that football money they earn. -

Zipgrad1990 replied to Dale Carnegie's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Major college programs pay big money to mid-majors like Akron to come to there place to have their asses kicked (or so they hope). -
What are the odds of us seeing any of this game?
-
Now I wish we wouldn't have won that challenge.
-
Damn and I didn't get to buy any jewerly!
-
At least they have $1 drafts at Panniis. I have no beer at home. I might have to go to the bar to drink since the game still isn't on!
-
Wide right - even though the sack of Getsy didn't help, we really need a better kicker he should have gotten that.
-
Bench Getsy! Just kidding, but he is sucking today.

NYTimes article on Louisville
Zipgrad1990 replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
When Jurich arrived from Colorado State, he had the good fortune of inheriting a new 42,000-seat stadiumJust another reason we need a new stadium! Akron and Louisville are similar schools in that they are located in metro areas and considered "commuter" schools. I don't see any reason why this plan won't work for Akron too. Of course unlike Louiville we are also trying to build up our basketball program. But at least we seem to be on the right path there too. -
I am also worried about CMU. We were supposed to beat them last year and they came into the Rubber Bowl and beat us. Also I am worried about a let down after our big victory. Most of the predictions seem reasonable. I think the game could go either way, but I doubt either team will score more than 30 or win by more than 10.

Although I normally don't pull for them, I hate Nortre Dome. Go Penn State!

Who knows about these rankings. Scout.com shows Akron has 22 committed, Rivals.com shows 24. On Rivals.com Akron is number 1 in the MAC and number 64 overall. In Scout.com they are only 7th in the MAC. My guess is the kind of players a mid-major gets on average are not as well know as the blue chips the big boys get. Therefore each player with less than 3 stars are pretty much a guess on these and other websites as to how good they are. So being ranked 101 or ranked 64 are probably not all that different, but we won't really know until a few years down the road.

I guess my biggest problem with Can't is that I went to Akron during the Bob Huggins era and it should have been Akron with the success, not Can't. But at the time Akron was more interested in investing in the football program and they went independant which gave Huggins another reason to leave. He would have left anyway, but maybe we could have gotten another year or two out of him first. And then after Huggins left we had those great pair of coaches Crawford (the worst!) and Hipster (the second worst?).
