Johnny Malloy's. I'm sure the staff will have their OSU shirts on, but apparently that is par for the course in Akron so I'll ignore it. At least the Buckeyes aren't on until 3:30 when hopefully the Zips game will have been over long enough to get out of there before the sea of scarlet and grey shows up!

From the Livingston article - "...as was the loss Sunday, although Frye dug the hole. "How did Frye dig the hole? Sure his interception led to a FG and you can argue that his inability to move the offense led to the rest of the scoring. But I still don't see how you can place it all on Frye's shoulders. He is not on special teams and defense after all. Plus he didn't pass on every play, they did run the ball too.I don't think the Frye situation was a consipiracy. I just feel he is a qb that needed lots of time as a backup with good coaching to reach his potential. I don't know if his potential will be as an NFL starter, but he should be able to hang on as a backup somewhere.BTW - One of my coworkers is a Brown's fan and he said a fight broke out near him with someone wearing a Frye jersey and another Brown's fan. So I don't know if it would be wise to go to the Seattle game wearing a Frye jersey. Of course maybe by then BQ should be playing and the Brown's fans will have forgotten all about CF.I do hope Seattle crushes the Browns and they allow CF to get in for some mop up time though!
-
True but DA might get hurt tackling one of the players who intercepts him.

I was inititially happy when the Browns drafted Frye and then after only one year I had wished they had never drafted him. CF really needed to learn under a veteran qb in a system with a decent offensive line, coach, and running game. Hopefully he hasn't been ruined by the Brown's and all that will help him develop in Seattle. I'm not sure he will ever be a starting NFL qb, but I think he can be a very good backup. Of course the jury is still out on CF, I'm looking forward to seeing how he is doing in couple of years.I've alway liked the Seattle football team and now I have a reason to pay even more attention to them.Good luck Charlie!

I think Indiana has a much better offense then OSU. Also I think our defense will have a let down after last weeks stellar performance. And I think the offense will still struggle.IU - 31UA - 7

I'm complete agreement. I was a big Frye supporter but no more. I think he looked lost out there and held the ball too long. I expected better out of him after the Denver preseason game but I was wrong. I doubt we will ever see Frye start again in the NFL.
-
I agree and I've been pulling for him even as most people wanted him replaced. His scrambling ability helped him in college, but it doesn't help him in the pros. Mainly because the players are much faster and he can't get away. Also he got used to scrambling in college and holds the ball too long. That plus he is afraid to make a mistake also causes him to hold on to the ball to long. With the right system in place he may eventually become an average starting qb, but I would guess he will be a career backup or out of the nfl in a few years.

If we could just combine those Lee Owen offenses with our current defense....

It makes perfect sense actually. Good business sense to support the local college, assuming that college has fans willing to come to your bar and spend money. At the very least the "home of the Zips" (the Winking Lizard) should show support for UA. Does that mean all the service crew must wear Zips gear? No, but at least 1 or 2 should. Also any Akron area bar should show some support for the Zips or at least be impartial and not wear OSU stuff for the game.As far as having to go to school to be a fan - If you never attended college then I can see pulling for the front runner. If you go to another college and pull for OSU, I find that odd (CSU or other schools without football get a pass), but its common in this state and I try to ignore it.But if you own school plays against OSU and you want OSU to win over your own school, then I think that is just sad.

I went to Johnny Malloys today and it was a sea of scarlet and grey. At first I was shocked - Is this Columbus I wondered? Then I remembered how Ohio is full of OSU homers. What really pissed me off is that of the servers/bartenders most of them wore OSU garb and not a single one wore Zips garb. Some of them had other shirts that were not with either team at least. After watching the game there I had 2 thoughts:1) I will never pull for OSU again (I used to pull for them against Michigan or if they were in the National Title.)2) I hate OSU and hope some day we can beat them.
-
Its only on the Big Ten Network so unless you have Direct TV you can't see it. See the other threads about what bars are carrying it. I plan on going to Johnny Malloys in Cuyahoga Falls myself. Another option I can recall is the Winking Lizard in Fairlawn.

I bought $65 season tickets and the OSU tickets were $60 each.I didn't want to go sit with a bunch of OSU fans myself. Besides that money all goes to OSU and they have enough money in their athletic coffers.

Can We See Some Of this Saturday?
Zipgrad1990 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I agree but it also helps when OSU loses. If OSU was really bad even the ABJ would cover them less (although it wouldn't increase the Zips coverage, that would take wins as you mention). As an example consider OSU basketball, for many years they were down and out and got little or no coverage. -
I was exactly like you and I agree completely. One of the weirdest things I see in Ohio is people whom go to other Ohio colleges with all kinds of OSU gear. One of my managers at work went to OU but has his entire office decorated with OSU junk. WTF?Anytime I find out someone is an OSU fan I find out if A) The went to OSU or B ) They never graduated from another Ohio college. If A or B aren't true, I don't respect them as a fan. Its their choice though so I try not to slam them for it.

MAC Week 2 Preview, Predictions & Injury News

With Michigan loosing to App State, if OSU looses to Akron then the fix is in to try to get people to buy the Big Ten Network!Of course if Akron wins I won't be saying its a fix. I'll just be saying we are the better team. And my heart says we are, however I think it will be about 5 years (3 years after the new stadium) before Akron is a powerful enough force to knock off OSU.
-
Temple is so bad at football that the MAC was stupid to not force them to add bball too. Its better to not add them at all. And go Middle Tenn! The best thing about college football (other then a Zips win and a Can't loss) is to pull for the upsets!
-
I'm sure he must have taken Akron with the points. If YSU lost by 32, I would guess we would loose by less then the 29 point spread.
-
OSU 31UA 9 (Make 1 FG, miss at least 1 FG, and miss a PAT)

I think those of us that are anti-OSU grow weary of the nothing but OSU coverage when it comes to college football in northern Ohio. It would make sense if this was Columbus, but its not. My mother lived in Cincinnati for 23 years and although they covered OSU it was not like they do here where they cover OSU more in the Leaky Urinal then they do UA. (Today's paper was a nice balance though.). The Cleveland TV stations always lead off with OSU coverage over the local teams. In Cincy it was always the local teams first. We also hate that the BCS schools have worked hard to make it an unbalanced playing field. The NCAA really needs a playoff for football, but that would dilute the money the BCS teams receive. It would also level the playing field somewhat, although it would take years to do so.Sure the MAC isn't up to the level of the Big Ten, why would it be? The athletic budget of every Big Ten team is probably greater then most of the teams in the MAC combined.I don't have a problem with someone being an OSU fan and a UA fan. I don't like it, but to each his own. I was a big OSU fan until I attended UA. Now I don't like pulling for OSU because when they win it means even less coverage for UA or any other college in Ohio. College basketball was great while OSU was down, you actually had more balanced coverage. That was also due to Ohio having several good college basketball teams. Its much harder to be successful in college football as it takes a lot more money to make a difference and many more good players to make a good team. That's why its extra sweet when the Big Ten or any other BCS conference gets upset by a non-BCS team.
-
It looks like this point spread was based on what YSU did against OSU and the feeling that Akron is only slightly better then YSU.I would put the point spread at 21 if I was putting a line on this game, so if I was in Vegas and betting on this game I'd take Akron.

Can't up on Iowa St. 23-14 end of 3rd....
Zipgrad1990 replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Can't was only 2.5 point underdogs last time I checked. But a road win is always impressive. Even though -
I didn't see the news, last I heard the Brown's were leading towards Anderson starting. Having Quinn holding out does help both Anderson and Frye with more reps and more opportunity to start.Hopefully Quinn will hold out for several months. I want to see what Anderson and Frye can do. I'm pulling for Frye to start, but I'd prefer Anderson over Quinn. I feel Quinn is overrated.

Blue Ribbon Yearbook Conference Predictions
Zipgrad1990 replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
I just hope all the predictions are wrong about Can't State winning the East. Because -
Wow, I thought it was a statement of shock not a bash on the Zips.
