Its a shame both had to happen in the same weekend. I am actually over the shot clock error. I will never get over the NIT snub. I have excepted it though as the NCAA is all about the $$$$$.I like the idea of a bracket burning and hope no one mentions the clock error as it will only make us sound like whiny fans.
-
No problem, you must have forgotten how the MAC gets screwed every year in the tournament.
-
That link must be several years old as it mentions the MAC receiving 4 NIT bids. I believe that was in 2005.
-
I don't buy that argument as I don't think the NCAA gives a crap about the MAC! I think it was all about money and nothing else. Well also about the NIT selection committee being full of WAC and ACC cronies too
-
I am so mad I can't sleep. Maybe someone should make up shirts with #26, F the MAC, and F the NCAA on them. I'm sure everyone on Zipsnation would buy one!
-
There has always been the haves and have nots in football and it was true in basketball too, just not all that noticable until today.I'm with you Captain, the MAC commissioner better raise a big stink about this one or the MAC will continue to sink to the bottom with the other bottom feeder conferences.
-
One problem is the NIT gets no respect at all so on the major websites I couldn't even find a mention of our snub. Maybe if the NIT was still 40 teams they would have had to take us. Of course then we would have been screwed like last year as one of the teams playing the first day and then having to go to a rested opponent a couple of days later to play on that opponets court.
-
I agree with you there. If you think the system is biased now, just let the government get involved!
-
So does this mean we are the 98th best team in the country? No, we are just the number 1 screwed team!
-
If I am not mistaken the NCAA is a non-profit organization so they can do what they want. However the BCS system in football was so biased to the big boys that congress threatened to take away the non-profit status of the organization and the NCAA added another BCS bowl to keep this from happening. The problem with basketball is so many teams get in they can always say the mid-majors have the same chances as the money conferences when we know this isn't true.
-
Yeah if we were in the NIT.KD realizes he can only play the big boys on the road. What he doesn't want to do is fill up the schedule with road games just to get a tougher schedule as you will end up loosing too many games and/or getting beat up so that you can't remain competive in your own conference. He does need to take at least one or two road games a year at a major conference school even it that will probably be a loss. Due to the nature of RPI those one or two losses will help both your RPI and strength of schedule.

Well I was never a fan of the NIT before the NCAA owned them and even less of a fan now. More or less it was something to watch if your team was snubbed from the NCAA tournament. It truely is all about the money with the NIT now.How come all year long we hear how important RPI is for both getting selected for the NCAA tournament and for the NIT and then when selection time comes the committees conviently ignore some teams with RPIs that should make it? This is especially true for the mid-majors.
-
This my pet peeve people always say about the NIT - rights to be the 65th (66th if you consider the play in game) best team. It assumes the other 64 (actually 65) are better than those teams which are in the NIT. This is just not true. With automatic bids for conference tournament winners and upsets in the conference tournament, not even the best team in a conference gets in. Especially among the conferences with only 1 bid.
-
They have us listed as a #6 seed now. I think we should be more like a #3 or #4 seed though.I think we will miss the NCAA tournament by 10-15 spots. We won't ever know that though as they don't tell you the order of the teams left out.A couple of bad things about the NIT:Early round games are played on campus sites (good for high seeds, bad for lower seeds).Games are not on television except for the final 4.Everyone always says the NIT winner is only the 66th best team in the country. BULL! That assumes that the NCAA tournament is composed of the best 65 teams which we know that isn't true. Why don't they just get rid of the NIT and expand the NCAA tournament by 32 more teams?
-
I am not watching. Everytime I watched in the Bob Huggins days we never got selected. I will see where we land in the NIT though.
-
I agree! Yes the ACC is a tough conference but Akron's RPI would probably be higher if they played in the ACC and LOST EVERY ACC GAME than it is now. RPI rewards you for loosing to good teams too. So often the major conference teams have higher RPIs since several good teams will bring up every team's RPI.I thought at one time it was required to have at least a .500 record in your conference to get an at large bid (winning the tourney would still get you one no matter what your conference record). If not it should be required unless the NCAA expands the tournament to 96 teams or so. I think it would make the major conference tournament that much more exciting since the only way in for teams with loosing conference records would be to win it all. Other than money the major conference tournaments are a waste of time. Pretty much the top 3-4 seeds are guaranteed a trip to the NCAA tournament no matter who they do. Sometimes a bubble team from a major conference can win a couple of games and get in too, but its very rare for one of the lower level teams in a conference to win it all.

NIT - YesNCAA - NoI really don't see us not making the NIT. The only silver lining is lots of good teams will be in the NIT with us and
-
I'm tired of the MAC only getting one bid year after year. I am pulling for Miami to do well, but it won't matter. Next year we will again be only a 1 bid conference unless all the teams step up and play a tougher non-conference schedule and actually win a few of those games!
-
Wrong! Although the MAC officials suck, the clock started long before the half court line. At most a second to 1.5 seconds went off the clock. Since the shot was taken by Miami with 1.6 seconds left, they win regardless. It just shows how you must hit your free throws at the end of a game!
-
Well hopefully Cedrick will be in the gym working on free throws for next season. You can't blame it all on him, but shooting only 69% as a guard is not good. Its been 21 years since our one and only NCAA tournament. I am beginning to think it will be another 21 years until the next one.
-
It almost looks like Akron decided by showing up they would win. No defense + No offense = big loss.Sad that Akron decided to play their worse half of the year in the first half of this one.Hopefully they will play their best half of the year in the second half or its one and done again in the MAC tournament!
-
I think a 3 game basketball sweep would finally make up for the bad taste in my mouth when we lost to Can't this past season in football!GO ZIPS!
-
Funny thing when I was in school one of my professors corrected someone for saying University of Akron. He said its THE University of Akron! He probably would have had a coronary if someone would of said Akron U. I sort of cringe too when someone says Akron U, but I let it slide. I think we should go with just saying Akron. Hopefully our success in basketball, football, and soccer will make it so!

Another problem is once you get to the NCAA tournament you end up being a 15 or 16 seed and get trounced in the first round.Being in a tougher conference with more talent prepares you for possibly winning a few games in the NCAA tournament. After all its nice to get there, but I want the Zips to get there and WIN at least a few games!
