  1. How much would be fair? I wouldn't worry. Porter's latest contract pays a base of 270K with an 80K services clause for promoting the University for a total of 350K annually plus incentive incentive compensation. There are also many perks included such as a car allowance, club membership allowance and an interest bearing annuity bonus should he serve the whole term of his contract. This doesn't include the substantial sum Caleb earns from camps. Long story short, it will take unprecedented deep pockets to lure Caleb away for another college job. He's probably the highest paid coach in the college soccer now!!! All wonderful information that doesn't answer my question.

  3. I don't know how much he makes, but I sure hope no one tries snatching him from us. At this point, he might be the most important associate head coach in the country. The Olympic gig seemed to work out perfectly for Porter because it won't interfere with this season or next season, but in between now and then, I think a lot of duties of the head coach are going to be relegated to Jared and the other assistants. We still have Spring season, and although it may not be extremely important, it shouldn't be written off as no big deal. Also, Porter will probably not be able to be as hands on with recruiting in the off season. We need this team of assistant coaches now more than ever. If cash is important to him it shouldn't be too difficult to lure him away. $70,652 (in 2010) isn't all that great of a salary.
  4. And now many of the players have 8 digit salaries (including the two digits after the .)
  5. Are you saying he was stealing from his teammates to support a drug habit? RIP.
  6. Buffalo picked up another nice win for the MAC last night, absolutely demolishing Dayton at Dayton (on the heals of Dayton beating Wake Forest and Minnesota to win the Old Spice Classic tournament in Orlando last weekend). Filzen and Barnett could not miss a 3 point shot, and McCrea and Watt dominated inside. These guys looked very good. Interestingly Dayton is now 4-2 (0-2 in the MAC, having lost in OT at Miami earlier this year).
  7. I always believed that there were too many things working against the situation for both parties to agree. I believe I wrote "I would be SHOCKED" if it was able to be worked out. okay..."the MAJORITY of us got caught in the hoopla"...Better? It's painful when one falls off their unicorn right in the middle of realityville.
  8. +1 Finally, Zach with a well thought out post. You have come a long way from the old days UAkronkid.
  9. Well now that the dust is settling all I can say is there is no way I am letting JT promote my flying pig farm.
  10. Fortunately, we have no shot at Pelini. May be time to target JoePa.
  11. He is now in the JAR. Somebody has a time-dated picture of him in the JAR ten minutes ago.
  12. He is now in the JAR.
  13. Akron has a big advantage over UCLA because JT wouldn't be able to include any years at UCLA with the years spent at YSU and tOSU in his state retirement plan. This could cut his retirement check by hundreds of dollars.
  14. A more important issue is how will the team survive next year without anyone on the roster with monster hands. It just seems like yesterday when dreal was telling us how lucky we would be to land the Tonganator. Now that his eligibility has expired, how will we survive?
  15. Yes, Dennison and Tressell are good friends. In fact, after Tressell left OSU, Dennison & Tressell met. Dennison tried to to get Tressell on his staff immediatley, but Tressell turned him down. Dennison alluded that he planned to step down in a year or two as head coach and would like to hand the whistle over to Tressell. Tressell has been thinking about it since then. And Frank Solich after he was canned at Nebraska took a year off and then started with OU. Solich was fired because he couldn't get it done at Nebraska with a new AD in place. I would prefer Tressell, however, whoever we get needs to have HC experience and be familiar with the MAC. Frank had 9 wins the year he got canned. A major problem was he was scoring too frequently off the field.
  16. Can you pick out the guy who thought his "football game" memo said "open swim"?
  17. $40 million to Urban to come to OSU for 6 years. Seems like we ought to be able to talk JT into coming to Akron for 40 years for $6 million.
  18. Are you channeling Zach? I didn't realize he had passed on.
  19. Sorry to hear this. Glad to see that he will be collecting an additional $6 mill to go away. Even more glad that iCoach didn't finish 5-19 after 2 years. We probably would have given him a contract extension with that record.
  20. I know that many of you hate tOSU with a passion and have offered numerous noncomplimentary remarks about the sweater, but how vindictive can you be? Wishing the Akron head coaching position on the former Buckeye mentor seems a bit extreme. In a court of law, such an outcome would likely be judged cruel and unusual punishment. Come to think of it, I like the idea. Let's go get him.
  21. Great post JZ84. I'd just like to focus on this little bit. We have learned in the past year that Tressel was a fake and fraud as it relates to his campaign to be the most honorable person in America. He can't afford to come to Akron and be exposed as a fake and fraud as a coach. He'll never take the chance. Tressel won a boatload of games at OSU with three MAC schools per year and a cake Big Ten schedule. He routinely got his butt kicked against OOC BCS teams. There is no scheduling to hide behind at Akron. He can't take the risk of being exposed. One thing Tressel isn't is a risk taker and Akron is a huge risk for him. I've never said that Tressel couldn't win at Akron. There just isn't any evidence to show he can win without breaking NCAA rules. I don't want to risk him not being able to win without breaking rules at Akron. If he doesn't break rules and loses, we are screwed. If he breaks rules, wins and gets caught, we are screwed. If he doesn't break rules and wins, which there is no proof of, we win. We have a 2 in 3 chance of losing with this guy. No thanks. People need to think with their heads and not with their hearts. So I'm marking you down as undecided.
  22. Tommy Evans Lounge I saw that but what is the lounge used for Furniture repairs and light machine shop work. I stopped going to the TEL once they ceased performing automotive repair.
  23. If this guy is a National Writer, then RACER is an International Writer. Well the national writer would fit right in on this board.
  24. Footballscoop obviously has a good UA source as they were the first to nail the Ianello firing, so they have big creds with me. I'll just repeat here what I said in an earlier post: Tressel may not be the greatest college football coach in America. But he is without question the best proven college football coach who would even have the slightest chance of considering coming to Akron for what UA can afford to pay. that source was the first to report Ianello was being hired by Akron a couple years ago. This latest scoop makes me think the "source" is someone that posts on this board. A quote about facilities being best in the MAC? Come on. Still hope it's right. You can bank on it.
  25. FBS is a step up from FCS. We aren't saying this, it a freaking fact! Comparing YSU to Akron is like comparing YSU to Wayne State. Completely different level. at least it's supposed to be; so there.
