Here's one last item that is sure to ruffle some feathers and evoke a troll. When we can forecast that we are beginning to gain strength (soon) and decide to place several more established teams in a 2 away 1 home game contract on our forward OOC schedule (along with 1 and 1 non BCS conference team contracts) and we have a hole to fill on our home opener, we should attempt again to get YSU in a 1 and done here. We have tried this before and their AD balked at it, but we now have a Tressel card to play.

Fans care about money when it is their money. Fans also like to be associated with smart well run programs, as I said before. A full or close to full stadium for a season would out fund any opening season ATM single game. Proposing to look at fans as stupid is definitely not going to help either. Transient AD's looking for short term budget improvement with these 1 and done games to build a resume should be steered in the right direction for the long term health of the program. Your named ATM game is part of the problem and is helping rob Akron of success on the field and ultimately in their coffers. Pause and think about it - we have been doing these ATM games since 1987. Has it worked out for Akron? The answer is no. The word should go out from the fans - schedule anyone, anywhere, anytime (except Spring ha ha), but one game must be played here. 1 home 1 away contracts are best. 2 away 1 home would work with the right teams, but would necessitate that a 1 and done FCS team home game would have to be fit in.

Let me take one more stab at the ATM game (and see if I can kill it here). Earlier, I said ATM games (1 away game and done) rip up a program. How? It alienates your potential fans. Most paying college football fans in Akron or anywhere want to see wins and want to support a well run program, which means scheduling teams that don't just throw a check at your AD after playing against insurmountable odds. Players and some hard core Akron fans like these away venue games, but most casual fans watch week one and two of the college football season and all they hear are negative comments on the networks and ESPN about cupcake U and how they are only playing established programs for the paycheck. The thought goes something like this - do I want to buy a ticket from Akron when all they want is money and don't care much for taking the rights steps to methodically get better and strengthen schedule as you improve. We have a beautiful stadium with great football fans in the area that will supply more revenue than any ATM game. We should use the new facility by only signing contracts with a home game in the series and start piling up the w's and increasing attendance. We can always play the big money teams later in a bowl game and grab our fair share, if we do things right.

NIU stadium capacity - 24,000 1996 - 1998 - three wins MAC conference affiliation Akron 2 wins over NIU in 2005 NIU 2-10 in 2007 Think again NIU has been great as of late. That just shows it can be done.

Being able to purse at an angle that your coaches desire is a technique, not a athletic ability like running fast. Maybe the lateral pursuit wording is throwing people off as this sounds like he is slow. Remember he was a 3* all state big 33 linebacker. He got sidetracked with Ianello, but if he responds to the coaching by one of the best linebacker coaches in college football, he may shine again at this position. Lets hope so.

A school in our own conference that you piss on went 11-1 this year. Their only regular season loss was to Iowa. Are we that far off from Northern Illinois? Spring Major College football - nope (USFL, World Football League the new one being talked about by greasy developer types) - Nah again. What next Spring break in the Arctic? What we need is a different scheduling formula than has been used when we were at the Rubber Bowl. Simple scheduling formula - play anyone anywhere if you just play one contract game here. This would eliminate the big money teams and leave us with a very interesting schedule that is winnable - maybe all wins.
-
The American Athletic Conference (Old Big East) is still a BCS conference I believe (Navy and Memphis are in this conference's plans) - could be wrong as there was some controversy there. Let's see if this gets you off the ATM game - what is the one thing that could catapult a team to national recognition with all that means in revenue and recruiting in one year besides a national championship? Answer - an undefeated season. Your ATM game would almost guarantee this would never happen. Now that's far away from our current position we all know, but when talking about scheduling you are talking 5 years down the road. We just might be ready at that time.
-
Your formula would exclude the likes of Indiana, Memphis, Navy, Army, UConn, Colorado, Iowa State, Minnesota, and Purdue to name a few. These are teams hold national reconition and will be winnable games as we gain strength. I don't like any guaranteed loss situation either (option #1). It's simple filter: you come here for a game in the contract then we schedule you. This would stop all games that garner disrespect in the media for the University. I Know players like these venue games, but the days of the Rubber Bowl are over. Come here at least once or find another team to schedule. All FCS teams would only have the option to play here. I like your emphasis on W's of course, but no need for a money game when the money will pour in with a good schedule and a sustainable football program.
-
Yes, Akron should be doing more of this type scheduling because it includes least 1 home game. The 1 and done money games are a way to rip up a program (except for one team I'd like to not name here). Only schedule opponents that will travel to Akron for a least 1 game and we will develop a winning tradition and the money, and bowl games, will be there for UA.

You may never want to take up golf. You may be right, however, but I tend to hink that most aspects of any sport are teachable. He's paid his dues, I hope he takes the starting job.
-
Could this be the year Rossi steps into a larger role on defense? I've heard Amato was not happy with his lateral pursuit - something about not being able to turn his hips in order to move quickly towards the ball. This seems teachable. He is a big hitter and would look good in the middle if he gets angry and learns a few tricks of the trade.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Casimos was backing up Switzer at center for now.

On that OL chart Senior Joe Petrides name should be placed on the third team. Not sure where he has been playing but he is now up to 300lbs. Also, I believe JUCO guard Dominick Hamilton should also be in there somewhere. The rest of the frosh (Kortokrax and all) should redshirt.

DL 1st rotation James Grice Caponi Capi 2nd rotation Horner McCray Hollis Presley All could start and all will play many snaps with starting jobs in 1st rotation awarded based on stats (note that Conner Seeman could see playing time). Very interested in our special teams also.
-
How's this as a beginning: LT Puhgsley - 319 LG Brumbaugh - 303 C - Switzer - 292 RG - McNamara - 312 RT - Orelus - 331 Other players may demand something different as things ramp up in 4 weeks.

How about OSU OT Tommy Brown from Firestone? Wasn't he going to transfer (eligible 2014) or did he reconsider?

It was Dee Friesen on a return attempt and Chisholm that both fumbled inside our 10. It seemed to me our offense and defense played better than I expected depite the score. Our return game was attrocious, however, and O'leary didn't holster the guns early either. Playing UCF reminds me of the 2003 game at the Rubber Bowl. Akron was the dog, of course, and UCF entered the field between the white gates near the visitors sewer (locker room). They had some guy going nuts thowing f bombs so I yelled out 'UCF has no class!'. I was about 5 feet from their starting linebacker and he walks over to me and says - 'What did you say!' I repeated the no class comment and pointed to the kids looking on while their team was screaming pofanities before the opening kickoff. Thankfully he walked away (may have even appologised) as I thought I was going to be dragged out on the field to a stomp a Zips fan party. We won that game by the way with class. Watch out for the Zips this year UCF fans. if Major Reisman (look it up) can keep this group together, we may make some noise.

Maybe I'm missing something, but did anyone notice that Arrington was mixing up projected starters and reserves on the offensive line for the Blue and White in order to evaluate. No wonder they had trouble with their timing and assignments.

Since you elected to not start a new topic, but to divert this thread, and because you seem to like attacking me, your post was deleted. Censorship to promote your ego agenda, not for me. I have done all I can here, time to move on.

So you can say something on a post and then you think you just end the discussion. I don't think so.Moderator entry:I do think so.

Quote from Eastern Michigan's head coach - MACREPORTONLINE.com; Around the MAC; Scheduling Model'Eastern Michigan head coach Jeff Genyk acknowledged during his weekly press conference Monday that he would have been surprised at the start of the season if he had been told that the Cardinals would be the first ranked opponent the Eagles would be facing this season but believes the Cardinals' scheduling model this season is both one that has benefited Ball State's surge in the rankings and is one that other MAC schools should try to emulate in the future. Any time that our conference administration or university administration can schedule to have a chance to go undefeated brings tremendous notoriety to the university and the whole conference, said Genyk in discussing Ball State's non-conference schedule. It's hard to put a dollar amount on playing the big guarantee game - going out and playing an Oklahoma. Granted, you make $600-700-800,000, but if you have a chance to go undefeated for the first seven games now you have a sold-out stadium and increased support from alumni. So how does that parallel from a financial standpoint? I think it's (the notoriety and the national ranking) great for the MAC and shows every institution that if you get it rolling a bit, amazing things can happen.'It seems the idea of playing a guarantee payday game (away only contract) is not everyone's idea of an ideal scheduling model. We should all wake up and realize the name of the game in college football scheduling is schedule to win not schedule to make money in order to fund non-revenue sports at the University. Yes, we need to play two OOC top 50 teams every year for fan interest, but only if they would play here at least once as part of the contract (won't play here, then, bye bye as home field is a great advantage)... We've been over this before in previous topics on this forum. Money will follow the wins, especially in Northeast Ohio. Winning tradition 1st, then money from the fans will follow, then recruiting rises... the program is elevated, and big revenue and big time games where we would have a very good chance of winning would then be a long term reality. We have the Info on it's way, I'm trying to see that we don't build our forward schedule like we are still playing in the Rubber Bowl.

These two (who sound like fictional characters) were even before my time. I started listening to Zips football when Faust appeared on the scene and we were going to move to IA. Back then they had Don Ursetti and Whitey Wahl announcing. I know they were friends of the University (especially Whitey), but they were so bad that it was like listening to your grandmother (Whitey) and a garbage disposal (gravely voice of Ursetti) announcing the games.

Steve French is our Joe Tait. I believe I heard an interview with Steve, some years back, and he said that Joe was a role model of his.Steve's 'Touchdown Akron!!!!' is a classic. Joe Tait has a few too. Prior to following Zips football I was a Tribe fan, beginning in 1968 (not so much now). Joe worked with Herb Score and Pete Franklin on the pre-game, and when Joe was introduced he would always say 'It's a beautiful day for baseball' no matter what the weather conditions were (rain, snow, sleet or heat). Joe would also get me fired up with his stretch saying....'Indians fans wherever you are, up on your feet for the seventh inning stretch!!!' I'd be driving my car and trying to stand up when I heard that command over the radio.Anyhow, long live Frenchie. I was at a UA football media day with my young son several years ago and I saw Steve getting ready to make some announcements. After listening to him for 20 years I felt like I knew Steve personally, although we never met, and I almost went up and yelled Touchdown Akron!!! at him, but somehow I controlled my emotions and didn't embarrass myself and my boy.

to call OHIO University "OSU" is offensive to anyone from this state as well as anyone who is a member of the MAC. I have a lot more respect for the bobcats than the Suckeyes.Innocent mistake really. This thread was talking about OSU, and OU, and the 110, who's to know all of the band nicknames in the country except band people... Anyhow for you to get so angry is really nerd like and perpetuates a negative stereotype. Lighten up and don't be so insecure, I'm not a bandy, but I support what the bands contribute to gameday. Dick Suk... what were his parents thinking.
-
The thread started as a discussion on the Acme/Zip game day experience of which the band was a large part, and is a large part of today's game day.
