  1. At least one analyst liked what our former coach did on draft day http://www.mlssoccer.com/superdraft/2013/n...-mls-superdraft Under the heading Pretty Much Went According To Plan Portland Timbers – Was this my favorite pick of the draft? Yes, yes it was. First of all, I like Dylan Tucker-Gangnes a lot, and could argue that he’s the most MLS-ready of the center backs on offer, so just on a nuts-and-bolts level, it was the right pick. As important, though, is that Portland took a kid who is Seattle born-and-bred, and University of Washington star, one pick before the Sounders were up. Seattle fans flipped their collective bean in the live chat, on Twitter and elsewhere. Safe to say the Portland braintrust “gets” the rivalry. (Tucker-Gangnes, by the way, played for Portland's U-23s in the PDL, so it's not a given that the Sounders would have picked him at all. But I still love the way this went down).
  2. That's great news. Has that been published anywhere yet?

  4. No "whoops" necessary. Robbie Dambrot was previously listed on Top Drawer as committed to High Point.
  5. DeAndre Yedlin's new look: https://twitter.com/yedlinny/status/2913491...8/photo/1/large https://twitter.com/i/#!/yedlinny/media....com%2FzeAsqUCI
  6. I posted this in another thread, but it seems more appropriate here. From Travis Clark tweet: 2013 Akron recruiting class continues to take shape. IMG defender Brett Gravatt and Robbie Dambrot committed.

  8. Are you sure that Akron had a top 5 recruiting class in Caleb's first season? Interesting ... I thought Robby Dambrot had verbaled elsehere.
  9. According to GoZips.com he is.
  10. No confirmed signing yet that I can find, but indicators are soon... http://www.burgundywave.com/2013/1/12/3867...contract-rapids https://twitter.com/Rapids_News/status/289905932715061248 I'm going to miss Dillon. I wish I would have found time to talk with him more. I enjoyed talking with his mother in Omaha and at one game in Akron. I look forward to seeing them again, hopefully, one day.
  11. I hear you, but I'll be interested to see if there's any lasting effect from the LeBron bobble head. So, 1500 fans get one on Jan 26th. Will those 1500 fans show up at any other games after the 26th? Yes, the season ticket holders will, but how many "Joe Akrons" will start coming consistently because of this one-time giveaway? Perhaps a better marketing ploy would be to give the bobble heads (or whatever) away with season ticket purchases at all levels.
  12. Some nice former Zips bobble heads suggestions on here. We could go to other sports, too ... Jason Taylor, Domenik Hixon, Chase Blackburn, Dwight Smith, Teal Bunbury, Darlington Nagbe, Steve Zakuani, Christi Smith, Jenna Compton, Stevi Large ...
  13. After reading your reply, I realize how poorly I worded my post. My big issue is that we should honor our own...those who played for the blue and gold rather than someone who was never a Zips player. Honoring LeBron with a bobblehead is like doing so for other boosters. I don't want to say any more on this because I realize that those who love kissing up to LeBron are okay with this and those who don't are not. I'll stay in my world of being impressed with and supporting players who actually played for the Zips.
  14. What bothers me about it is that we should honor our own with bobbleheads. LeBron never played for the Zips. As far as what he does for the program, has there been any other boosters who do as much, maybe more? Where are the bobbleheads for them?
  15. Crew midfielder Wil Trapp called in to U20 camp
  16. Congratulations to DeAndre Yedlin, Sounders First ever Homegrown player.
  17. Timbers' Porter: Valeri will man our attack, free up Nagbe ...“As we build our team, we’re going to have other key players, and I see Darlington being one of our attacking weapons, but certainly not our only attacking weapon,” Porter said. “Good teams have many, and we’re finally getting to the point where we have a diverse attacking group. "With Darlington, I actually think in some ways he’s more effective when he can flow in and out of the game and pop up and hurt you in moments. I don’t think it will be on him to be the guy on the ball running the show. He’s a young player, and he’s not ready for that role yet. But he’s certainly ready to produce.”...
  18. I saw that and agree. Congratulations Pablo. He will be missed at Akron. Thanks also to @ZipPaul for keeping all of us up to date.
  19. Crew signs Defender Chad Barson to Homegrown contract Edit: The Columbus Crew announced on Thursday it has agreed to a Homegrown contract with Lewis Center native and University of Akron standout Chad Barson. ... Barson’s signature makes him the fifth Homegrown player in club history after his Akron teammate Wil Trapp signed with the Black & Gold last month. The Lewis Center native recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Akron with a 3.99 Grade Point Average after earning First Team NSCAA All-American honors. Barson started and appeared in 93 out of 95 games during his college career, tying Anthony Ampaipitakwong’s program record in matches played. The three-time All-MAC First Team defender played a team-high 2,254 minutes during the Zips 2010 NCAA Championship-winning season on a team that featured eight players who were on MLS rosters in 2012. “Chad is a strong addition to our team and a player that we’ve had our eye on for some time,” said Crew Technical Director Brian Bliss.” “We’re obviously familiar with his abilities from our Youth system, and he enjoyed a successful career at the University of Akron. Chad will make a fine pro and we look forward to his contributions.” ...
  20. Looks like Ives had this back on December 20, 2012. From the Dispatch article: "His signing will push the Crew roster to 22 players. The deal has been finalized for a few weeks." Unrelated, also from the Crew website concerning the schedule released today: 7/7 - Crew vs. Portland Timbers FC Former Akron University Head Coach Caleb Porter returns to Ohio in early July, potentially squaring off against former Akron standouts Ben Speas and Wil Trapp.
  21. I missed this back in December, but it looks like Wil Trapp had a successful camp with the US U-20s. I hope that he will continue that in 2013. http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-20-MNT/2012...-Venezuela.aspx Wil Trapp initiated the play that resulted in the first U.S. goal in the 13th minute, recovering the ball after a Venezuela turnover and playing it through the center circle to Gil. Gil quickly played the ball onto the path of Villarreal, who was crashing into the left corner of the box. Villarreal slammed a hard shot into the left corner. The ball deflected off the goalkeeper before heading into the goal. ... The last goal of the game fell in the 85th minute when Trapp played a through ball to Metzger from just outside the center circle. Metzger fired his shot into the right side of the goal from 10 yards out.
  22. I read this https://twitter.com/SoccerByIves/status/281829978243493888 back in December but have yet to see it confirmed by the Crew.
  23. Best wishes to Chauncey for a speedy recovery.
  24. Thanks Crew8. I'm looking forward to going to Columbus to support Wil and Chad this season. ...Trapp: “Yeah, I’d say so. I mean, even more so now because of the Home Grown signings, I think. I mean you have kids who played for the Crew academy and have gone to games since they were young. I feel like the fans are really going to be able to relate. It’s hard to go to the games when you don’t know the people and now it is one of those things where ‘Oh, Chad Barson? I went to high school with that kid...
