  1. EDIT: For anyone who didn't see it live, the Timbers have a replay of today's match on the website: http://www.portlandtimbers.com/news/2013/0...-top-rapids-3-1 Yes, it is recent. Fox 8 in Cleveland featured that ice sculpture, Jared Embick, Bryan Gallego, and Reinaldo Brenes on their morning show last Thursday, I think. https://twitter.com/ZipsPaul/status/294076355140788225
  2. MLSsoccer.com to stream 26 preseason matches, starting with Desert Friendlies on Tuesday January 29th Portland Timbers vs. Colorado Rapids tomorrow (Jan 29th) at 1 pm Eastern 5 pm San Jose Earthquakes vs. Houston Dynamo Full schedule can be found by following the link. Lots of opportunities to see our Pro Zips.
  3. A mark against the Crew, in my opinion... http://www.thecrew.com/blog/post/2013/01/2...denton-day-four A NEW FACE IN CAMP To begin Sunday morning's training session in Bradenton, Fla., Robert Warzycha asked Justin Meram to introduce a new face in the preseason camp. "Guys, this is Konrad Warzycha. He's from Columbus and he went to Ohio State. He's here to train with us," the former Michigan Wolverine announced. ... "[Konrad] is another one of our players. I don't see any difference. I'm "Dad" at home and on the field, I am the coach," the Head Coach echoed. For those who may not remember, Konrad received a red card for kicking the ball into Darlington's face after D had been taken down and was lying on the ground in our match at tOSWho in 2010. It appears the younger Warzycha couldn't make it in KC. "[Konrad] is another one of our players"... If he were anyone else, would HC Warzycha have made such a show of introducing him? Interesting to see if he makes the roster. I wonder what Chad and Ben were thinking when Konrad was being introduced.
  4. Work Ahead for Seattle Rookie Good article; here's how it starts... INDIANAPOLIS — The rise of academies caused an unusual situation during last week’s Major League Soccer SuperDraft because not one player from the University of Akron was called to the podium. Akron was still well represented at the Indiana Convention Center. The former head coach Caleb Porter was on duty with the Portland Timbers, and the homegrown signings Scott Caldwell of the New England Revolution and DeAndre Yedlin of the Seattle Sounders were in attendance. ...
  5. I'm with you on the gold uniforms. I think the gray uniforms are sharp, too, but wish they were a subtle gold instead of gray.
  6. Yep. I know they do, which is why I said I guess I need to join in the social media. I don't necessarily care if they answer all of the tweets. I just want to ensure they know how much they're appreciated.
  7. Although I posted earlier that it looks like it worked for tomorrow night, I'll still be interested to see if there is any lasting effect. Also, what is the effect of the LeBron bobble heads vs the Zips' current winning streak? Whatever the case, I want our players to know that I show up to watch and support them, not because there's a chance that I can pick up a Lebron bobble head. I wish it was as easy to catch up with our basketball players after a game as it is our soccer players to thank them for their play. I guess I need to join the social media crowd so that I can tell them through twitter or something. I'd just prefer doing so in person and not just at the beginning or end of a season.
  8. Looks like the promotion worked for tomorrow night.
  9. My guess is that Bryan will play this summer for the Portland Timbers U23 team (PDL) like Aodhan and DeAndre played for the Sounders U23 team (PDL) last summer.
  10. You beat me to it, but here's another... http://seattletimes.com/html/soundersfcblo...nal_future.html I'm surprised Z.I.P. and fknbuflobo didn't remember this. (Ref: http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?s=...t&p=135206)
  11. Congratulations to David Meves, picked as #3 overall in Supplemental draft by the Portland Timbers today.
  12. David Meves to Timbers, third overall pick of Supplemental draft. http://www.mlssoccer.com/superdraft/2013/supplemental-draft
  13. I apologize as I didn't mean to imply that you hadn't brought this to the Athletic Department's attention. I guess my post was poorly worded. I was just trying to point out that we can all help the Athletic Department with this kind of information. Thanks for pointing out that Chauncey has scored 1000+ points; I didn't know that. I respect and appreciate our players and love to see them recognized for their accomplishments.
  14. The UA Athletics Department isn't infallible. I suggest when you notice accomplishments like this that seem to have gone unrecognized, send a nice e-mail to the UA Sports Information Director (SID) specific to that sport. They are all listed at http://www.gozips.com/athletics/staffdirectory/index under the heading "Communications".
  15. Interesting...thanks. Edit: I think that's Nano to Caleb's left between 0:11 and 0:16 in this video, moving around and getting the kinks out of his neck.
  16. http://www.stumptownfooty.com/2013/1/21/39...rters-first-day Michael Nanchoff, formerly of the Vancouver Whitecaps and a former player under Caleb Porter at Akron, is listed as a non-roster player on the Timbers' preseason roster, but was not at practice today.
  17. Speaking of the Sounders, some discussion with Steve Zakuani and others on first day or training camp. Also in the video at 2:12 - 2:16 Steve working out in the foreground and DeAndre in the background.
  18. It was a disappointment, but I don't see it as a disaster. As was stated by the ESPN announcers in reference to the barrage near the end of the 2010 Championship game, Sometimes you just need luck. If your name's on the Cup, it's on the Cup. We just didn't have the breaks vs Creighton in 2012 that we seemed to have vs Cal, Louisville, and others in 2010.
  19. Interview: DeAndre Yedline at the SuperDraft I like DeAndre's response to the question about Akron vs Indiana in 2012 MLSSoccer.com Interview: DeAndre Yedlin I always love the questions concerning UA
  20. At least one analyst liked what our former coach did on draft day http://www.mlssoccer.com/superdraft/2013/n...-mls-superdraft Under the heading Pretty Much Went According To Plan Portland Timbers – Was this my favorite pick of the draft? Yes, yes it was. First of all, I like Dylan Tucker-Gangnes a lot, and could argue that he’s the most MLS-ready of the center backs on offer, so just on a nuts-and-bolts level, it was the right pick. As important, though, is that Portland took a kid who is Seattle born-and-bred, and University of Washington star, one pick before the Sounders were up. Seattle fans flipped their collective bean in the live chat, on Twitter and elsewhere. Safe to say the Portland braintrust “gets” the rivalry. (Tucker-Gangnes, by the way, played for Portland's U-23s in the PDL, so it's not a given that the Sounders would have picked him at all. But I still love the way this went down).
  21. That's great news. Has that been published anywhere yet?

  23. No "whoops" necessary. Robbie Dambrot was previously listed on Top Drawer as committed to High Point.
  24. DeAndre Yedlin's new look: https://twitter.com/yedlinny/status/2913491...8/photo/1/large https://twitter.com/i/#!/yedlinny/media....com%2FzeAsqUCI
