OSU's defense gave up 39 points to Michigan, but their offense scored 42. Since the defense was only 2 points worse against Florida, you can't really say that was unexpected. Had the offense again scored 42, OSU would have won 42-41. Afterall, OSU's "high-power" offense is where they got most of their accolades this season.

Actually, I think Ohio State's first opponent is Youngstown State.

SGM, I agree with you. All this OSU bashing does nothing more than make the person doing it look like a whiner. I am an Akron Alum, so I will cheer for the Zips to beat the Buckeyes next season. But, otherwise, I live in Ohio and will cheer for Ohio teams.BTW...if people feel that Akron is slighted in the media, look at the way Northeast Ohio media barely acknowledges Mount Union (9 D-III Championships since 1993). Oh yeah, the day of the Stagg Bowl is when you hear about Mt Union, but that's about it. Why aren't more of their games televised? Why don't they sell out their stadium for every game? In the great Northeast Ohio "hotbed of football", a perennial powerhouse is generally ignored.

Actually, I wondered where Nick Goddard was at the end of the Nevada game. Akron down by 2 points and gets to inbound at half court. Why not throw it in to Goddard and let him have the final shot?

Yes, my audio feed from the Binghampton web site has static. I wish I lived closer to Akron. I'd prefer to hear Steve French!

It appears there is an audio feed on the Binghampton site...http://www.bubearcats.com/home.htmlhttp://bumedia.binghamton.edu/ramgen/encod...nsbasketball.rm

The fact that it has been much more difficult this season than last to buy a single-game lower reserved seat (and I do mean 1 seat) seems to indicate that UA was quite successful in selling season tickets. Last year, I sat in Section J, Row C (directly behind the Zips bench) quite often without a season ticket. This year, the best I have been able to do is Section B or I, Row F.

Akron@Niagara predictions and in-game thread

Was at the game. Small venue. Great to hear the 4 AK Rowdies who showed and the ~ 2 rows of Zips fans directly behind the Zips bench. Also, nice to meet Nick Dials' parents.GO ZIPS! -
I just have to disagree with your assessment of the coach's abilities and the adminsitration's action during the period that the University of Akron went to D-1A. First Muse was going to make a name for himself and drag Akron into the "Big Time" no matter who he ran over. The AD was nothing more than Muse's gopher. Look at the conference they put us in to get to D-1A status. No basketball, so Huggins left, it wasn't about money. Dennison was never given a chance try to bring the team into D-1A, Muse saw a chance to get a "BIG NAME" coach so he did. And speaking of the abilities of Gerry Faust, I grant you he could recruit, when did he ever win at the college level. He lost at Notre Dame (which is pretty hard to do) and he came to Akron and lost even with the gravy schedules and the cake teams they gave him to play against. I was there in the 60's with Gordon Larson, in the 70's with Dennison, and I was there when they hired Faust. Don't get me started :mad_flame: :mad_flame: I do agree that it was almost thirty years ago, and it is time to go on ........... I wholeheartedly agree with the assessments of Muse's destruction of UA football and basketball. I was a student at UA the day Huggins was hired. He was an AWESOME coach and still the only one to take the Zips to the NCAA Tourney at D-1. KD is OUTSTANDING and will get us back there. But, it's been a long time in the making. Muse deserves no credit for anything positive related to UA sports.

Can we win the MAC title this year?
Zip_ME87 replied to blueandgold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I absolutely agree. In the late 80's when JAR was completed in its de-scoped form, UA President William Van Muse (total lack of vision) flushed Coach Bob Huggins' Zips (only UA D-I appearance in the NCAA tourny) in favor of a Gerry Faust-coached D-IA football team. It only took 19 years to recover. It would be absolutely inexcusable to let something like that happen again. The basketball program needs to be given its due. -
I did the same thing...what a disappointment. The Browns suck and Hixon's hasn't been able to play due to his foot injury.
-
I agree with you, AZipsCrazy. The Zips looked to me like they thought that all they had to do was show up and someone would give them the game. Not playing until the whistle blows is absolutely incredibly stupid.
-
I've also heard a mixed bag.Someone complained to me about the "messed up" traffic pattern with Buchtel and Carroll closed and UA's expansion. What an idiot! It's so much nicer than when I attended and had no real campus. It also makes the city look much better.Others have told me that the changes have been great.I also had a Michigan Alum at work tell me how much she likes the Zips. I've been trying to get some of the Michigan alumni I know to go to the Zips vs Wolverines soccer game on October 18th. I know they're the opponent, but, it's good for attendance. (It's a convenient way for them to see one of their teams and UA gets a little extra revenue.)

I have 3 tickets in Section 2. Could other Zips fans who have purchased tickets post the section you are in?
-
Basketball history, too [i.e., sh*tting on Coach Huggins in the process]. Man, am I glad UA has recovered in both, although it took a lot of painful years!

That comment was not meant to be directed towards you. It was directed to those who give the vibe that something very negative is going to happen that I've seen even after a convincing win yesterday. I love that fact that there are those who care enough to be upset. As I said in a previous post, when I attended to U in the 90's it was known as Apathy U. I never want to go back to those days. Perhaps many of us on this board fear we may go back to those days and that is understandable. Sort of like those that went through the Depression Era always having the fear that no matter how well off they are now, they may lose everything in a moments time. However, there is so much more to be positive about. Beat CAN'T and go ZIPS. I agree that there is so much more to be POSITIVE about. I think the Zips can handily beat Can't State. It's a rivalry game...those are when you play your best. GO ZIPS!

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like "Prozac Nation". I, too, was disappointed in the attendance. I almost didn't make it myself because I was stuck in Denver Friday night due 1st to bad weather in Chicago and then our pilot being up too long that day. When they cancelled my flight, I was very lucky to get on the 10 am non-stop to Cleveland on Saturday and arrived at Hopkins a little after 3 pm. I was tempted to stay home, but did not. I arrived at the game just after the band took the field.

That's great logic. If umbrellas are allowed and the stadium happened to be full (like we all want it to be), to where would I move?Personally, if I'm going to have my view blocked, I would prefer that it were blocked by the AK-Rowdies standing in front of me. I'd feel good about standing if it was because the Real Fans were standing and cheering in front of me...rather than weenies with huge umbrellas.
-
I agree. The Browns would have no offense without Charlie. How sweet it would be if they had an O-line!Charlie's the man!
-
Is it University of Akron policy to allow umbrellas during game action? Fortunately last night the rain stopped just as the game was getting started. However, I saw umbrellas still raised for the first few plays until the rain completely stopped. I go to football games to watch football, not the umbrella in front of me. If the fans want to stay dry, then they should bring ponchos or rain suits. The big D-1A schools do not allow umbrellas during play. Perhaps this is a sign that UA has no interest in being a big D-1A school? Or perhaps, there is a policy against umbrellas during play, but I didn't see any of the ushers enforce it.

I absolutely agree and am planning to voice my opinion in a letter to Mack Rhoades. I am a 42-yr old alumnus who just bought season tickets this year, and I wish I was sitting with the students. I much preferred when the student section was near the team and next to the reserved section. In fact, I would prefer if the students had the seats in the lower sections behind the team between the 30 yard lines. I would love to sit right behind all of you and cheer with you.
-
To me, it was disappointing to have the students sitting in the corner of the end zone on the "away" side of the field. I'm a 42 year old alumnus with a season ticket on the Zips side of the field, but I would much prefer to sit with the students, especially the AK Rowdies and the band. They make the game so much more fun. I liked it better when the students sat next to the reserved section. Those making the noise and getting into the game deserve better seats and to be closer to the team.As far as the game goes, the special teams set the Zips up with some pretty nice field position. I'm not sure the offensive stats were as good as the score. I could be wrong; I'll have to look them up.

I hope the weather lets up enough for me to make it in to Cleveland tomorrow. I have tickets to the game, but got stuck in Denver tonight (Friday) due to the BAD weather in Chicago. I'm now on a non-stop tomorrow, but it doesn't arrive into Hopkins until 2:55 pm. I'm sure my checked bag won't make it, so that will be another slow down. I just hope to get to the game before kickoff now.Go Zips!
-
Well said Yeah, that's really well said. I live in Ohio, but I love Michigan, and USC, and UCLA, and, and, and...That's going to make Akron better. That's sooooooo logical.
-
Keep your "we"s to yourself. GO BUCKS! :cheers:Another national championship for the Great State of Ohio would be awesome! The Can't State thing does go a little overboard here at times. While I agree that , I only feel that way about them when they play the Zips.
