Wil is not a free agent. He has a contract with the Crew which was recently signed. His going to Celtic is a Columbus Crew/Celtic decision. (Transfer fee $$$) @fknbuflobo & @ZipsVoice you both hit the keys that for this to be good for Wil, he has to get into the starting 11, and be involved in competitions beyond the Scottish Premiership.

Wiebe: 5 Big Questions the day before the SuperDraft ...With the schedule officially out, what match am I most looking forward to in 2019? Three words: Hell is real. That sign, which you see on the drive from Columbus to Cincinnati, is the inspiration for the name of the rivalry between the clubs, a moniker both have embraced, and rightfully so. It’s awesome, and I expect the games and environments to live up to that billing. It’s organic and chosen by the supporters. Chisel it in stone. For both, 2019 promises to be a historic campaign, which up the stakes even more. Salvation came to Columbus, and they celebrated heartily on Wednesday as Tim Bezbatchenko and Caleb Porter were introduced as the club’s first president and head coach under the new ownership group led by the Haslam and Edwards families. The club has a future again, and that future is extremely bright. You can listen to both outline their visions on Thursday’s ExtraTime Radio. FC Cincinnati, meanwhile, are preparing for Year 1 in MLS. They’re undefeated against their in-state rivals thanks to a 2017 U.S. Open Cup victory at Nippert Stadium. They’ve got an established fan culture, a new stadium on the way and a chip on their shoulder. They might need a pick-me-up in August, and the rivalry could provide that. The drive is less than two hours. Those are gonna be some incredible away days...

2019 MLS Combine and SuperDraft
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
@ZipsVoice I don't disagree with you. I'm also happy to have all of our underclassmen players returning for 2019. As I've said, I think they will all benefit from at least another year in our system before turning pro. My point has always been and remains that we shouldn't look at it negatively when our underclassmen have the opportunity, and take it, to turn pro early. That is a reflection of the quality of our program and its players as well as a great recruiting tool. I can't understand not being excited about that even if we have to learn new names and faces from year-to-year as long as the results continue. Various numbers have been put out there for the 2018 season because I think a couple of our players may have left the team during the season. However, as I recall, the 2018 Fall Season began with 19 of 32 players being new (not with the 2017 Zips) and no doubt ended with a National Runner Up trophy...confirmation of the quality of our coaches and the players they recruit. Regardless of player turnover, and bumps along the way, our coaches and players work extremely hard and can compete with any other D-I program. Soccer continues to grow in the USA and Ohio...FC Cincinnati and a resurgence of the Crew, the team that built the first soccer-specific stadium in the USA and was one of the original MLS teams, is evidence of that. We currently have the best soccer team in NEO playing on our campus. I hope other UA alumni, friends, fans, etc., whether soccer fans or not, let others know what we have right here...see future professionals of all levels (USL, MLS, EPL, National teams [USA, Afghanistan, Thailand], other leagues in various parts of the world [e.g., Costa Rica, Europe, Thailand]) right here in Akron at a very reasonable price. -
Ohio roots touching multiple layers of Crew SC organization ...So whether it’s the Gahanna Boy (Trapp), the Zips’ Zen Master (Porter), the Wizard of Westerville (Bezbatchenko), and of course, The Edwards Family and The Haslam Family operating from Columbus and Cleveland, respectively (alliterations only run so far), Crew SC’s Ohio roots run vertically as the Black & Gold rise in pursuit of MLS Cup in the years to come. ...
